I've got two ticket for the Elliott Smith show in Seattle at the
Showbox I need to get rid of. There ended up being another
show that I'm going to on the same day and they start at
nearly the same time. The tickets were $15 face w/ $4
service charge. I'd much rather sell two together.
The show isn't sold out, but I'd really like to get my money
back from these tickets, so if anyone was planning on going
to this show and hasn't got their tickets, please get in touch w/ me!
I'd be willing to knock off the service charge.
Thanks for the b/w

Help! My Sony 59-ES, which had performed quite well for years has
developed a non-moving transport, preceded by an inability to eject a tape,
and before that analog input developed a very loud roaring hiss in one
channel. I just used it until it stopped working, figuring Sony's 143$
flat rate would cover me. Not only did the local one in St. Louis Park, MN
close their doors a couple months ago, but the Sony service line told me it
would be about 250$ for their flat rate. That pointed me toward buying a
DDS drive and forgetting the repairs at all... but after hearing that DDS
offers no error correction, I have gone back to the concept of repairing
this deck. Should I go for Sony or some outside service place? Have any
of you had recent Sony repair center experience, either in Niles, IL, or
the one in NJ? Vendors or repair people, please email me--those who've had
experience in this are, please do so as well. Thanks,
Jonathan

I have not gotten to listen to this show myself. Therefore, I have not been
able to verify any sound difference that one would expect from different
mics. Also, since I have not listened to it yet to verify any possible flaws
(no offense to the person I got it from), I will not be offering it up for
any B&P's until I actually have listened to it.

Subject: DAT>CDR Copies
Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2001 17:02:52 EST
I recently bought an HHb CDR800 Burner. I have it hooked up to a Sony
PCM-R300 DAT machine. I am trying to put some shows I have on DAT to CDRs
using the ID-Sync mode (exact copy of the DAT including the start IDs). If
the DAT is longer than the CDR, how do I restart the recording on a second
disc? And how would I add some philler or begin the next set after beginning
the CDR with the remaining portion of the first DAT? I thought about using
the one-track-at-a-time mode, but I think that would create a blank space
between tracks. I don't want to split some tracks if the band jams between
them. Any suggestions?
Sorry for the newbie question. Thanks for the space.

OK, time to prove the person wrong who claimed a while back that us rock
tapers never B&P or offer BWT. Listen closely, as this offer is NOT an
actual B&P, and is not handled in the usual way. First, this offer goes to
NEWBIES ONLY, and is intended to help you get started if you have little or
nothing to trade. Please do not respond to this offer unless you have
purchased your deck (and have NOT been previously taping on MD or cassette)
within the last 3 months, we're gonna go on the honor system here. To make
this fair to those who also are on the list in digest form, I'm going to
take the LAST three responses that I get before the digest after the one
that includes this posting hits my mailbox. Only email me once please, if
you don't get a response, you didn't make it. Third to last respondant gets
2 extra CD's I ended up with by mistake.....Aerosmith 7/23/01. Second to
last respondant gets any one item from my list. The lucky last respondant
gets to pick any 2 items off my list. This is not the usual B&P, because
I'm not gonna accept anything in return for this....no blanks, no postage,
no nothin'.....only thing you have to give me is a promise to help another
newbie out in the future and to never be stingy with your tapes. Good luck
in guessing when the digest after this one appears, my email is

Ok, I think I'm back on track enough to start the next round of trades.
This one's for Yes, 8/24/01 at Wolf Trap, Vienna, VA. Stealthed about 15'
to the right of and behind the sbd. A- quality, excellent except for the
idiot next to me who talked to his buddy through the whole show....he at
least turned away from me and is only audible during the quiet parts. Got
this one on DV video as well as 48khz DAT. I stupidly left a spare DAT in
the truck, so only the first 2 hours of the show made it onto the audio
recording. The ushers were still escorting people into the empty seats
mysteriously clustered around me and it was still daylight during the
beginning of the show, so even though the video camera was rolling, I
couldn't pull it up for a shot until after the first song (Close To The
Edge). DAT is 2 hours, Video is the full 155 minute show. Two tape limit
on this round of trading. If interested, email me at mallness@surfbest.net.

Subject: D100 to Nightingale?
Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2001 19:54:20 -0500
A member of my orchestra records our concerts on a Sony D100. We want
to make CD's from some of the tapes. I've got a Zoltrix Nightingale
Pro6 sound card. Can you guys tell me what cables will work to get
the signal from the D100 into the Nightingale? There seem to be a
number of 7-pin cables available to fit the little Sony's, with
prices ranging from about $30 to maybe $150. I understand the
difference between active and passive, but I don't know what
practical difference it would make in a case like this. We don't want
to buy something just to discover that it won't work for us. On the
other hand, there doesn't seem to be any reason to spend more than
necessary when there's so much knowledge out there. Anybody there who
can tell me what really works with a setup like this?
Thanks

For Sale: Sony TCD-3/batteries/charger for parts or repair.
This unit has a long history centered around a single problem:
the right input intermittently ceases to function. Left input is
fine, playback is fine, but the right input wouldn't work. Several
succesive attempts to fix this problem by everyone from my local
electronics wizards, to Sony Service, to Paul Plotnick have left
the problem, well, intermittent.
Recently the item suffered through a bad air trip and was dented
on the bottom. The unit no longer powers on; the dent is such that
that there could be some internal damange.
It's obvious that I'm not going to get any more use out of it. I'm
hoping to sell it to someone who can get use out of the parts. I
have the unit itself, the power supply, and two batteries. Make
an offer on any or all of them.

Subject: FS:Shock mount & T-bar etc. for small mics
Date: Sun, 9 Dec 2001 12:17:16 -0500
I have upgraded from MD to DAT and have the following equipment for sale.
Most was purchased from Sound Professionals. I have included some links. The
shock mount and the T-mount are ideally suited for Sound Professionals or
Core Sound small mics. The T-mount is a flexible shaft that fits into the
shock mount. Details can be viewed at the Sound Professionals web site.
The dual XLR to 1/8" cable is typically used with the Denecke AD-20 (Zefiro
InBox).
The rechargeable battery will run your MD for a min of 20 hrs. Newer MD's
will probably run even longer. This can be used with a CD player. It is the
same size as a CD player (about 6"x6" and 1/4" thick). It is designed to fit
in your CD carrying case right under your CD.
I have placed a picture of this equipment on my web site;

Hi All-
I'm using EAC to rip CDs and convert to .shn.
My question is: How do I pull the file names off the CD using EAC? I like
the CD>EAC>shortn32 method, works like a charm. I'd like to also have EAC
write the file names from the CD, instead of track01, track02, etc.
Also looking for traders using AOL IM. Right now, I've got 7 Jimi titles in
shn format available, this changes all the time. Now that I've got this EAC
to shortn32 thing going, trading without a trip to the post office seems to
be the way to go. My AOL IM 'buddy' name is epcjimi.
Thanks!
