This is old info but back in 1988 I was setting up to tape a free show
on the Boston Common and was approached by Cliff's manager. He
explained that they were anti taping and that Jimmy had lost alot of
money due to bootlegging. I tried to reason with the guy, explaining I
never sell, this will help spread the good word re: Cliff's misic.
ect....but it fell on deaf ears. I told him he had no legal right to
prevent me from taping a free concert but out of respect for the artist
( and not wanting to argue ) I relented. Unless you hear
otherwise...stealth him !

Subject: Sony SBM-1 -> D10 pro question
Date: Wed, 12 Dec 2001 10:08:25 -0800 (PST)
Hello, I was wondering anyone knew what cable would
allow the sbm-1 to work with the d10 pro? I have the
just the regular d10 pro, not the pro11.
I have the d10's 10pin->aes/ebu xlr and then have a
sonic sense aes/ebu xlr->sony 7 pin. This does not
work. I don't know why, it seems it should. I know
people use the two together, so the d10 should except
the s/pdif data, I'm just not sure where to buy the
proper cable.
If anyone knows a cable that will get it to work and
could please point me in the right direction. Just
having this sbm-1 sitting here and not being able to
use it is getting a little frustrating. Thanks, Andrew

Hey gang,
A long time ago there was a series of posts here about problems with the
D8's making a high pitched sqealing noise when the LCD backlight was turned
on. You can't hear the noise externally, but it is recorded onto the tape.
If you turn the light off, the noise ceases. Does anyone know what causes
this, or if there are any repair shops around familiar with fixing this
problem?
Thanks all,
Ryan

Does anyone have a schematic of how one would wire a DPA 4061 mic to a
male-XLR in a way to be powered by a 48V phantom supply? Can these things
take 48V? I know Len wires them up for 9V....but has anyone done the wiring
itself to take 48V?

Hi All-
I'm using EAC to rip CDs and convert to .shn.
My question is: How do I pull the file names off the CD using EAC? I
like
the CD>EAC>shortn32 method, works like a charm. I'd like to also have
EAC
write the file names from the CD, instead of track01, track02, etc.
>>>>>>
EAC can do exactly what you want.
Open EAC - Click: EAC Options\Filename
Fill in the field as desired.
Example:
Grateful Dead 5/8/77 3 discs
GD77-05-08D1T%N This is for disc 1. The %N tells EAC to insert the
Track Number
from the CD.
For disc 2, change "D1" to "D2" and the same for Disc 3.
When you're finished with this show, don't forget to change the constant
information to the next show's information or back to %T for "track01"
etc.
Hope this helps. Happy Ripping......

I'm buying a new motherboard (Soyo Dragon +) that has onboard audio. I
know that "onboard audio" is different wording for "crap," usually, but I'm
curious about the C-Media CMI8738 Chipset it uses. Digital I/O is
provided (both SPDIF and optical), and I was wondering if it resamples
inputs like a Soundblaster Live card does.
Anyone know about this chipset? I don't really plan on doing a lot of digital
I/O (at least for now), but it would help to have that information.
Thanks.

Hey All,
I'm looking for the 12/11/01 King Crimson show for a friend. He had made some T-Shirts with the KFC logo on it that had a picture of Fripp instead of Col. Sanders, which said "King Fucking Crimson". He threw one of the shirts on stage, which Fripp walked off with, and apparently there was a few comments made about the shirt when they came back out for the encore. He
would love to get a copy of the show if it's out there. I've got plenty to trade, and he will gladly make a shirt for anyone who can hook us up with a copy of the show.
Here's a link to a picture of the logo from the shirt:

i've made several tripssince 9/11 (i'm on one right now), transporting
various quantities of gear each time. I always hand carry the delicate/
expensive stuff, but batteries, power supplies, cables, stands and
so forth go into checked luggage at this point. THe extra wait is a
hassle, but easier than trying to get the stand past some security
num-nuck who thinks you're gonna use it to clobber the pilot.
of course, you're hosed if your luggage is lost, but there's a million
other ways to get snafu'd, and i wouldn't worry too much about that
one unless you're doing a multi-hop flight with tight scheduling.

Ordered an InBox today. From what I've read here, this should provide a
useful improvement with my D7. Any gotchas I should be aware of, or is there
a better way to spend my money?
I intend to use this with my battery box CSBs, which I really like (though I
do have some GAS for the HEBs). I've seen a few places that offer a simple
Y-cable (3.5mm stereo jack to 2 male XLRs, going from the CSBs to the
InBox). Is this a completely adequate way to do this, or should I
investigate using some Jensen transformers or the like to go from unbalanced
to balanced?
Thanks, all!

Subject: LEE from TENACIOUS D is ISO a DAT/Taping FAQ- help?
Reply-To: morst@itis.com
Date: Thu, 13 Dec 2001 03:50:15 -0600
Hi, Tom here,
The yahoo group "digi-d" has informed me that there is a special need for a
recording FAQ to give some perspective to fans of Tenacious D, who have a
great open taping policy. Lee wants to make sure that novices reading it will
have the ability to record a show from the soundboard, and prepare it for
seeding "E-tree" or a similar electronic trading system. I would like to note
that if you post on Yahoo-groups, the content becomes property of yahoo, so I
don't usually get too wordy or factual there. The link in the quoted text
below should take you to the taping discussion, or you can go to Tenacious D's
webpage at http://www.tenacious-d.com and find "Lee" there and harass him.
I know the DAT-heads should be able to come up with some choice tidbits for
the FAQ. Since this is only tangentially DAT-Heads-related, I will actually
offer some music up to the group!!! wow! me?!? Yes.
As a holiday bonus, and in order to encourage server-literacy, I would like to
offer the services of one of my computers in order to upload my TENACIOUS D
soundboard recording from 10-7-2001 St Louis MO. I hope to be able to log
into your favorite ftp location with my name 'morst' or 'tom' and a password
of your choosing, preferably from a tenacious D song. Please email me
ip#/username/pw/(path). I can push about 25K/sec up my DSL, and the files
will arrive as SHN-compressed WAV's along with checksums for each file (shn
and wav form) and LINEAGE INFORMATION with AS MANY ABBREVIATIONS AS I CAN USE
(just kidding!)
In order for some non-server-literate (or modem-dialing) DAT-HEADS to enjoy
this, I will take about 2 B+P's or quick trades for the show in 48KHZ DAT
form, without index points, but I encourage everyone to figure out how to set
up their machine as a server and let me UPLOAD it to you, saves postage ya know!
I will try to email everyone back, but if I don't, then you can assume that I
got deluged with responses and can't handle them all. I think that Tenacious
D is a special thing though, and maybe it only appeals to the select few. . .
or not. Please make the subject of your letter to me read "TENACIOUS D offer"
-tom (let's see if this works-
