As a veteran of a few handfuls of Crimson shows it was one of if not _the_ best I have ever seen. I have a couple of Yo La shows to trade. I have a master soundboard DAT recorded at The Floodzone in Richmond, VA on 4/30/93 and also the 8/25/00 show from NYC that they did with Ray Davies. Always looking for NRBQ much to trade that you don't see on many lists including many masters. Thanks ------------------------------ From: "Gary Davis" Subject: Re: Buzz from D8 light Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Fri, 14 Dec 2001 06:53:10 -0800 This isn't caused by a short in the mic cable, but rather, a poor ground connection in the cable. In either case, repairing/replacing the mic cable should solve the problem, unless the bad ground is in the solder joint where the mic input jack hits the circuit board inside the D8. This is also quite easy to fix but you have to remove the bottom of the D8 and touch up the solder joint. --Gary ------------------------------ From: "Wayne D. Is this what you have, or the SP version? I can't comment on the SP's bass rolloff, but with the AT8531's, I always used the rolloff. Even so, my tapes came out a bit more bassy than I like. I've never been happy with ORTF with the 853's. It gives too much stereo separation for my tastes and sound a bit echoee to me. I've found that XY90 seems to sound the best to me in all applications with the cardioids. I haven't used the hypers, but I do use the omnis. They are great for binaral/stealth with a very accurate sound reproduction. Of course, YMMV. -- Wayne D. It was broadcast over the radio in the atlanta area (Z93 i think). so far the only source that i can find is missing the first set. Does anyone even know if the first set was broadcast over the radio at all? I know the bar did not allow taping but i was wondering if there are any industrious southern tapers who might have this set. I'm looking for the DATs to then transfer to shn for servers. please get in touch if you have the first set (Helicopters, Above The Waves, Crickets). lots to trade. thanks in advance, jon goldberg (jgoldbe2@hotmail.com) ------------------------------ From: Brian Dipert Subject: D8 microphone input woes Reply-to: bdipert@pacbell.net Date: Fri, 14 Dec 2001 16:09:49 -0800 Hi all, I just discovered that the right channel of my Sony D8 DAT's microphone input, both at low and high sensitivity, is nonfunctional. Left channel works fine, as does the line input. Sound like a faulty 1/8" miniplug to you, or something more serious? Any repair suggestions, considering my Northern California location? Can any body help???? One options is to get some interesting Mexican violin music and support a good cause at the same time. Paul Anastasio who has kept a bunch of live recordings of Joe Venuti alive has been documenting the music of Juan Reynoso and others from Mexico, using the proceeds to document more music and obtain instruments for musicians down there who do not have them... http://www.swingcatenterprises.com/catalog_tierra.asp I'll also suggest supporting the Los Super 7 recordings, Flaco Jimenez, and Los Lobos at same time (and many other chicano/mexican artists). The los lobos oriented bands let us tape, so its good to buy their recordings too. If you are going South of the Border ("Latino" usually includes the carribean too) don't forget many of the great columbian sounds. Get yourself some Cumbias and skip Shakira (in my opinion). Panama Ruben Blades Buscando America (salsa oriented) or Danilio Perez Motherland (hot jazz). Or get into Venezelan Salsa artists (Oscar D'leon). Continue South to Chile for Inti-Illimani (recent Arriesgare La Piel: I Will Risk My Skin) or Victor Jara. Cooling off with Pixinguinha and Max de Castro from Brazil. Not dissing trading, but felt it was also good to point out some of the great recorded work. I would be into any trades of the above, carribean bands including Carribean, Chicano, and Brazilian POP. Especially interested in anything with a cuatro, tres, or cavaquinho. Or portuguese guitar.
