It's a checkbox in the record dialog called "read CD/DAT marker". However your soundcard and driver has to support this feature. I know that it works with some of the cards manufactured by Marian, maybe others. (eg. ProDif96 Pro). Contact www.marian.de for a list of cards which support the feature. Here's wishing everyone a Safe, Happy, and Music-Filled holiday season. Have Fun!!! Marc Marc Nutter Sonic Sense, Inc. 2755 S. Date: 21 Dec 2001 17:24:15 -0800 Myself, along with some other Dave matthews Band tapers recorded the 6.24.01 show in Camden, NJ with 5.1 mixdown in mind. I'm sure others have done the same. Here's what we did... We had 2nd/3rd row stack tickets. about 4 of us ran the gear off of 2 stands, one just a row behind the other. On one stand, we had a since onmi DPA 4061 mic. On the other stand we had 2 hyper-card Schoeps pointed to the rear at about 45 degrees and a pair of Earthworks SR-77's pointed foreward at ORTF. We got all the tapes with no cuts, gave them to the Earthworks owner (Scott.C.brown) and he has it mixed down and ready to burn on his DVD-R iMac... Problem... His software does not support compression of the music, so he'd need a bunch of discs to burn just one show. I'm not even sure if his current software supports DTS or DDS encoding. Apparently not, I guess, if he can't compress the audio. So, it can be done, fairly easily, but blank discs are currently $30-$40 a piece, few machines can burn DVD's, the software can be expensive, and you might need some new software that doesn't come with your setup (assuming you are doing this on a computer). Feel free to e-mail me with any specifics (might need to refer you to scott.c.brown). I'm in a rush at the moment... Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 17:43:04 -0800 Just wanted to send everyone a Happy Holidays Greeting. Seems like the holidays are getting more commercial everyday now and the true meaning of the holidays are getting lost. Hope everyone is well, happy and healthy. I hope the new year treats everyone well and that everyone finds peace and happiness. thinking of you all and hope to see some of you in the coming year. It came to me labeled "11/79 Bottom Line" and from memory, its a full show, not highlights of the 4 night run. The setlist is: Phase Dance, Airstream, April Joy, Unity Village/Jam, The Windup, The Epic, James, Old Folks, Jaco, The Magicians Theater, San Lorenzo, Cross the Heartland, American Garage Figuring I was NEVER going to come across a low-analog gen digital copy, I ran it to CD some time ago. If you, or anyone else on the digest are interested, mail me (plucente@blast.net) and we'll work something out. The sound quality is exactly what you'd expect from an FM tape with an unknown # of cassette gens. in it. Great performance, though. NOT!!!!) you might want to consult the EAC users group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eac IMO, for the best guarantee of a smooth track transition, extract the entire disc as one wavefile, then open the wave file in a wave editor (EAC even has one) & manually do editing to remove all the gap points, try to make things sound as seemless as possible, write a simple cuesheet to lay down the new marks, & reburn it good luck! - jon - ------------------------------ From: "Gary Davis" Subject: re: 5.1 recording Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 18:05:45 -0800 Bit-wise, of course it is possible. But, we are barely recording concerts in stereo right now - two mics half-way back in the room is just phase-distorted mono IMHO. --Gary ------------------------------ From: "James B. Wilkinson" Subject: puzzled by optical connectors Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 22:46:28 -0500 I recently bought a Zoltrix Nightingale with the optical kit. It came with an optical cable, and I can't get either end of the cable to plug into the connectors on the optical bracket that goes with the sound card. The box says that that the cable is TOSLINK to miniplug, and that looks believable. One end certainly looks like it could be called miniplug. The plug at the other end looks like it would mate with the jacks I've seen pictures of that were labeled TOSLINK. It's got six sides and looks like it might have started out with a square cross section and then had two of the 90-degree edges beveled off to give it the two more sides (making the total of six). The problem is that the optical jacks on the sound card bracket don't look like that. They are flat squares about a quarter of an inch on each side and stand up on little stalks that cause them to stick out about a quarter of an inch from the metal bracket. I've seen plenty of pictures of connectors like that on the backs of various DAT decks that I looked at on ebay a few months back. They don't look at all compatible with the pictures of TOSLINK plugs that I've seen nor with the plugs that came on the cable that came with the Nightingale. I've spent a couple of hours trying Google searches, and can't find much that helps me. Can some of you guys straighten me out here?
