I don't think the DTS codec is widely available - I would suggest Vegas
from SonicFoundry -
they may have a demo. Also, dvd-r blanks are $8 (tdk made in japan,
compusa) - but I would
first master on a dvd-rw to check the burn (not sure if iMac can write
dvd-rw). But with
the right codec, you should be able to get it on a dvd no problem. Also,
the value of a 5.1 disc
will depend on the mixing at the venue (i.e. even the stereo mix can be
pretty weak - and you would want to run most of the bass to a sub/rear
speaker as it is non directional.
BTW - anyone got a better source for good dvd-rs (online) - retail in my
area (tdk (japan), maxell
(tawain)) is $7.99 a disk.
Anyone got any new Bush shows -
trade bait:
Coldplay 7/10/2000 (HMV show)
Radiohead Rock IM Ring and Rock AM Ring (two 2-cd FMs from 2001)
U2 - 5/16/01 United center (very nice aud)

I almost replied to the original about this
too. I have seen them for $5.95 in mailings
from The computer geeks (computergeeks.com).
Noname brand from what I recall -- "good" seems
to have a variety of definitions among
dat-heads. These may burn fine but that
is no measure of their stability for "archival"
use.

I apologize... Scott.C.Brown has kept me out of the loop for the last year or so on the price of discs. Yes, they are getting much cheaper lately he says. Seems like all we need is better software. Regardless... go out there and set up some 5.1 configurations at some shows guys. Let's expand our taping experiences! Let's go over the top and do what those bands think isn't possible!
But Scott.C.Brown still kicks ass...

Hey All, Season's greetings. Anyone use the Sony ECM-717 mic with a D8
or M1 for taping loud rock shows in small clubs? The major specs are:
Sensitivity -47dB, dynamic range >80dB, SNR >64dB, max SPL 110dB. I'm
not looking for miracles here, but I tape maybe 2 shows a year, and the
price is right. Thanks Much, C
