We have DVD (general use) at $7.50 per disk (if you buy 5), in a jewel case,
these are Ritek and so far
have not had any problems with them. Go to

Thanks for the great tip on the Rewritable for the test master. at
$8.00 I am sure we want to avoid making drink coasters.
I would like to put in my $0.02 on the 5.1 discussion- why not do a
professional job when possible?
To field-record 5.1 at a large show it would take 4 tapers on your
team- duties as follows:
one and two- in front of each stack of speakers- derive FR + FL info
three- dead center near stage- center channel- picks up actual stage sound
four- stereo pair in the sweet spot or further back to taste - rear
surround channels
Get the most solid bass and make a .1 channel out of the best you
can, or add a taper in front of the Subwoofer!!!- 5 tapers! Actually
you could even put the stereo pair at the sweet spot, put the stack
guys on the surround speakers way out in the back corners or in front
of the quadrophonic speakers or lawn fills at the humongous shows,
get the bass from the center pair and blow off the center channel for
a 3-taper run in 4.1.
OK, you can do it more easily than that: 3 tapers to get 5.1:
1- Dead center stereo pair at the sweet spot- FR + FL
1- Dead center front row or first 5 rows- Center channel
1- Dead center way back- rear surrounds
get the bass from the sweet spot. . .
Even more compelling is the chance to get board mixes (or even custom
matrixes!!)
SBD- FR + FL
AUD- Rear surrounds
and if you had an extremely cooperative engineer, you could get a
center channel mix on a matrix with just vocals and melody
instruments, and a Subwoofer mix of just Bass Guitar and Drums- that
would rock. It would be nice to record it all at 20-bit or more on a
modular digital multitrack or laptop of course. . .and I'm not just
dreaming here.
In closing, I am looking forward to exchanging files over the net
which are losslessly compressed surround files, and hope that whoever
came up with SHN files has figured out (or will) something similar
for high-bit, multichannel audio. If such a thing exists already,
could someone please direct the dat-head commumnity to it's source so
we all may understand and benefit?
Later!

(snip) Also, dvd-r blanks are $8 (tdk made in japan, compusa) - but I would
first master on a dvd-rw to check the burn (not sure if iMac can write
dvd-rw). But with the right codec, you should be able to get it on a
dvd no problem. Also, the value of a 5.1 disc will depend on the
mixing at the venue (i.e. even the stereo mix can be pretty weak -
and you would want to run most of the bass to a sub/rear speaker as
it is non directional.

Hey all:
I've got an extra Apogee rack mount, never used for sale. This well let you
rack mount an AD1000, DA1000, and the power supply. I've got my AD1000 and
power supply rack mounted on it, and I now carry the gear to shows in a rack
case that I picked up from Guitar Center for $40. I feel A LOT more secure
about my gear now. Anyway, Apogee sells these things for $60 or so; I
bought two thinking you needed one for each part, but all three screw onto
one, so I want to sell the extra one for $35.
Cheers

Hey!
I know this question has probably been asked a dozen times, but what does
everyone think of this microphone, especially for live taping - with a Sony
MZR 70 MD recorder - sorry no DAT ;-(
Do you guys have tapes that were recorded using this mic, and if so, how do
these tapes sound (I know the mic is not making the whole tape, but anyway).
Thanks a lot

Hey everyone, I just installed the Waveterminal 2496 and everything seems to
be working fine. I am trying to record from my dat>hd via Soundforge 5.0, as
well as with CD Wave. When I monitor the levels in soundforge they hover
around -70 or so, but the levels on the dat (M1) are peaking around -4. When
I try to listen to what I just recorded I cannot hear anything. If anyone
can help me out, I would be really appreciate it. When recording to CD Wave
I cannot hear anything that I recorded (sound still comes out of the
speakers) Thanks in advance, happy holidays

For sale:
(1) Sony PCM-M1 DAT deck
I purchased this deck in September 2001 thinking that I would prefer it to
my DA-P1. However, after taping a few shows with the Sony M1, I have
decided that I will stick with my trusty DA-P1. Since I don't tape enough
shows anymore to justify keeping 2 portable decks, I have decided to sell
the Sony M1. The M1 has just twelve hours on the heads and is in excellent
condition. When not in use, it has been kept in its leather case inside a
ziplocked baggie, inside a desk drawer.
In addition to the Sony M1, I also purchased an extended warranty. I will
transfer the warranty over to the individual who buys the M1. I have all the
original accessories that came with the Sony M1 (owner's manual, wall wart,
rechargable batteries etc.) and I have the original packaging and the
receipt.
Buyer to pay all shipping, insurance, C.O.D. charges etc. I would like
$575.00 for the deck (includes extended warranty.) Preference goes to the
person who is ready to purchase immediately.
Please respond to: pdelima@dreamscape.com
thanks,
Paul

Whats up fellow heads- Need some extra cash for post college life and must
part with some of my beloved taping gear:
The AT822 is like new, I've only taped about 15 shows with it. I have the
original box and all accessories, I'll throw in a 25ft mic cable as well.
The price is $180
The Shure S15A mic stand is by far the best and sturdiest that I've ever
used. It weighs 5 pounds and can stand 15ft. tall. It comes with the
original super fancy fake leather carrying case. I'm selling it for $100
Buyer pays shipping. I have no problem with selling them together or
separately.

Is anyone burning DVD-Audio out there?
I spotted Veritas DVD-Audio software burning in an for
a bundle with an (ugh)HP Drive. (sorry, HP & I aren't
compatible)
If not Veritas, what are you using?
Does it burn in the DVD-Audio standard format?
If so what bitdepth and frequency? 16/44.1 or 24/96 ?
and does it support any of the surround formats?
Thanks.

Subject: ISO: Tapers for New Order "Winter" 2002 Australia Tour
Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2001 12:53:38 EST
Granted it's the summer, and most are Big Day Out Festival shows, but New
Order are also doing a couple of club gigs for those who want to avoid the
festivals...
Can anyone help tape these shows? Historically speaking, New Order play their
best sets in Australia. In which other nations could you hear "The Him" in
1985, or "Love Juice" ever... or "Weirdo" as an encore in '87... or the
super-long "586" in '82? Or even a brilliant nonstop segue betwixt "Blue
Monday" and "In a Lonely Place" in Perth '87? I realize the Big Day Out sets
may be juvenile and standard but surely New Order will still play very well,
and we all know they've paid their touring dues many years ago.
I also am seeking a complete performance of 2-21-87 Red Parrot, Perth, as
well as Dec 4 '82 Auckland, plus any shows that may have taken place between
the dates of Dec 8 and Dec 14 1982. Surely they had to be doing SOMETHING
those days during the (long) trek from Wellington to Perth, and must have had
a gig somewhere along that route.
I am in the process of converting all first-generation 1985/1987 Australia
shows to DAT, plus I taped two of the Mobyarea:One festival shows in Summer
'01. I am willing to send trades ahead of time to those who plan to tape New
Order. I also have many other AM>D or AM>CDR>D for New Order/et al. I plan
to borrow and archive the well-recorded 1986 Southern California D5/ECM990F
masters one of these days.
No BWT right now because I'm far behind in fulfilling previous BWT offers but
I'll have more time in April '02 and at that time can offer b/p for New Order
current tours.
Dates as follow:
18 JAN 02 Ericcson Stadium - Auckland, New Zealand
20 JAN 02 Gold Coast Parklands - Gold Coast, Australia
23 JAN 02 Hordern Pavillion - Sydney, Australia
26 JAN 02 Sydney RAS Showgrounds - Sydney, Australia
28 JAN 02 Melbourne Showgrounds - Melbourne, Australia
30 JAN 02 Metro - Melbourne, Australia
01 FEB 02 Adelaide RA&HS Showgrounds - Adelaide, Australia
03 FEB 02 Perth Bassendean Oval - Perth, Australia
Thanks again for consideration and all those who taped New Order Australia/NZ
shows in the 1980s period - those were some of the best shows ever!
Michael Siou
