Subject: 2 Q's: PC Sound Card & Sony SBM?
Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2001 12:14:59 -0800 (PST)
Hey all. I just joined the 20th century and got a CD
burner. Sort of just made my ES Sony MD deck obsolete
overnight! (But not my DAT deck... Linear PCM is
still linear PCM, and I still prefer 2 hrs shots to 80
min in a lot of cases.)
One question is: any recommendations for a sound card
for my PC? I was thinking that I'd need something
like analog RCA's in and out, and digital (opt or
coax) in and out.
2nd question is: I know that Sony's Super Bit Mapping
can reduce the noise in digital signals in the more
perceptive range of a person's hearing. Does there
exist a box, for example, that I could put in between
my stereo and PC that would do this?
Thanks!!

Anyone going to Salmon NYE in Denver who has extra space in their hotel or
house. I'm coming from Wisconsin and going to be traveling for the 2 weeks
following. I don't care to spend $99 for 6 hours in a hotel, with so much
time and distance to go afterward. Will be bringing Shampagne and other
party favors and will be taping the show, so I can spin it for you at your
house or send cd's upon arrival back home.
BTW: Looks like I'll have an extra pair of tix for this show. Maybe we can
work something out.....Dave

Hello dat heads... lately I have been getting some of the dat-heads digests
as text attachments with only the message below in the body of the message.
The complete digest is simply included as a text file.... I have no idea
what character set the message is talking about.. and "not supported by the
Internet Service."??? What the hell does that mean? Of course my email
client is Microsoft Outlook (on win95) so that may be the problem right
there: Microsoft.
Anybody have any idea what the deal is? Dat-heads seems to be the only
email that this happens with, all my other email arrives fine, whether HTML
(booo!) or plain text.

The MZ-R70 lacks a low sensitivity setting on its mic pre-amp and so is
very prone to mic pre-amp overload. The Sony ECM-907 is not a low
sensitivity mic and so will overload the -R70 when recording even
moderately loud sound sources (like rock concerts) unless you use an
attenuator cable between the mic and the recorder.
We have a file that compares our mics to the Sony ECM-907. It's
available on request.

Bill and others,
Please do not send such inquiries to
the digest or at least to the digest.
I barely keep up with that and
dat-heads-owner, having to look both
places slows my (slow) response dat-heads-owner.
The question I would have for you
is whether it was just certain digests
or all of them. DAT-heads is not sent
as an attachment, it is the text. I
can see no reason why #159 would give
problems itself -- it has no special
characters and its not the largest
recent digest. There have been recent
cases where messages which were not completely
plain text got through (my accented Sean
and a message I think from Dan Gale), but
the accented Sean is #147 and #159 looks clean.
If its specific digests, I need to see
the digests as they got to you
(to dat-heads-owner@datheads.phish.net, please).
If its all digests, I suspect Microsoft is
requiring you to open it as text because
of the size. Eudora on the Mac did that
for the longest time. I do not know for
sure, but know of no issues with the digests
in general.
FYI, two comments on MIME text. Those who
have posting problems because of MIME/HTML,
please contact dat-heads-help@datheads.phish.net
AND THEN dat-heads-owner if the directions
provided above do not resolve it for you.
Also those who are getting "you are not a
member" send messages to both "dat-heads-owner"
AND "dat-heads-post-subscribe@datheads.phish.net"
The latter will allow you to post and give me
some time to get through the queue of
dat-heads-owner email.
If anyone is using AOL 7.0 can you look into
its plain text capabilities. As far as I
know that is a problem for 6.0 users (I
posted directions for 5.0 users) and would love
to have someone test 7.0.

Has anyone out there had experience with the Aardvark Direct Pro Q10

to work with Sound Forge and Cool Edit.
