From: Todd Green <green@cmc.uab.edu> Subject: soundcards - macintosh - and analog to digital transfers..... Reply-To: green@cmc.uab.edu Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 13:44:57 -0600 hello dat-heads, i am about to begin transferring a lot of old cassette masters to cd. i have many pieces of the puzzle but have a few questions. first let me set the stage: i have a nak lx-5 for playing the cassettes. i will use a mac g4 for all of the processing post capture of the digital signal. the part that i am stuck on is one whether i need an external analog to digital converter and two what is the best sound card for me as a mac user. judging from responses that i have received on other lists, i do not think that i need an a/d converter but it never hurts to ask people on different lists, and i guess the bottom line is that the proof is in the comparison with and without. so does anyone have experience good or bad with soundcards and transfers on a mac? i will also take input about usb upload devices such as the edirol/roland ua-30. i know that there has been much discussion as of late about this. but it seems to me that one of the big issues in the negative direction about the ua-30 is with microsofts drivers. any mac guys got good or bad news on the ua-30. any help will be met with grate appreciation. happy holidays - todd

From: "RatDawg" <headhunter@ureach.com> Subject: FS: Sony ECM-737 and Unworking D-7 Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 15:29:35 -0500 Sony ECM-737: This mic is in brand new condition, actually used twice. Comes with the original carrying case, windscreen and mic stand mount. Best offer. Sony D7: Purchased new and used approx 250-300 hrs. Serviced once. The deck powers on, but there is a problem with the latch and it won't open/eject. I would consider this a "parts deck" only and can't guarantee anything else as it's been sitting in a box in my closet for the last 3 years. Also have the manual, original leatherlike case and the adapter. Best offer. Email me off-list if interested. Rob

From: Robbie Dunn <goheels@mindspring.com> Subject: Soundcard Q's Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 16:50:10 -0800 I'm looking to add a soundcard to my PC (PIII 800 w/ Windows ME, Plextor 24x burner) and am looking for some advice. After leaving two different messages and not getting a return call, I did finally get through and speak to one of the online dealers (who'll remain nameless), but unfortunately they couldn't give me any helpful info other than price.... so I'm looking for assistance here. The cards I've been looking at are: M Audio - Audiophile 2496 Ego Systems - Waveterminal 2496 Terratec - EWX 24/96 I'm mainly looking for a simple way to get the music on my DATs into the PC digitally so I can transfer the music to CD. Any help will be greatly appreciated...... If any online dealers, can offer assistance, I'll be glad to steer the business your way. Thanks in advance.... Robbie

From: Judson_Maurer <judsonm@gsdl.com> Subject: Aiwa HD-S100 External Power Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 20:17:08 -0500 Hey Folks, I just got an Aiwa HD-S100. I know that the internal battery is not even worth carrying to a show because of it's short life. I was wondering if anyone had any advise on putting an external power system together with out dropping a few hundred on an ecocharge system. I have found some inexpensive lead-acid batteries and chargers on various web sites. Any advise on which of these works best with this DAT? Should I make a dummy battery to supply the external power or try to find a matching adaptor to the plug in power? Any advise on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Peace, Taylor judsonm@gsdl.com

From: Gordon Gidluck <gidluck@swbell.net> Subject: RE: PC Sound Card & Sony SBM? Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 21:02:03 -0600 Kevin, Regarding your question, I don't know about SBM in particular, but the Symetrix AD620 is a 20-bit A>D converter which does noise-shaping. It can function as an A>D converter or an external dithering device for adding dither to a digital source. If you can find one they sell used for less than $400. Gordon > > From: Kevin Brown <kevin5brown@yahoo.com> > 2nd question is: I know that Sony's Super Bit Mapping > can reduce the noise in digital signals in the more > perceptive range of a person's hearing. From: michael ryan <luv2brew@yahoo.com> Subject: ISO Any Austin area/ KGSR tapers Date: Fri, 28 Dec 2001 00:34:36 -0800 (PST) Hey Now All! I am looking for any Austin tapers and anybody that records or has any KGSR Shows. I have a Lucinda Williams show from 12/4/98 but it has much radio static. Great show by many performers and I know that they have several live broadcast shows each year. I also know that Austin is a magical place to see music. The Spirit of StevieRay lives on and to see and touch the statue of him on the banks of the Colorado River ,looking at the skyline of Austin behind that great sculpture is awesome. So any Texas tapers that would like to set up trades or at least exchange lists , please drop me a note. Peace and a Safe New Years Eve...
