ADC-20 Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2001 14:20:23 EST My name is Brian Pearson and i am trying to get rid of my Lunatec V2 preamp which is in mint condition. It has only been used a few times to record Dave Matthews Concerts and produced excellent tapes each time running schoeps and earthworks mics. Also, i have a brand new Graham Patten ADC-20; 48khz A/D converter for sale. I personally love this A/D converter because of its reliability and consistency. Thank you for your time and i would like to offer up b&ps of any of my pulls with the Lunatec: DMB 2001 at the gorge, SPAC, Pac Bell Stadium, or Tenacious D in phoenix. Any serious offers will be considered for the preamp and a/d converter. Thank you again. The Asus board has coax s/pdif out only (no in). Input should be possible as it uses the CMI 8738 chip but I couldn't find anything related to s/pdif input from Asus. Usually you'll see an additional bracket with the appropriate connectors. Check the the Soyo SY-K7V Dragon Plus which has optical and coax in/out (the thing on the top left of this pic http://www.soyo.com.tw/product/k7v-dragon-plusbig.htm This gets good reviews and looks like a great board, with onboard LAN, Audio, RAID and it comes with the special bracket for s/pdif in/out (others sell it as an add-on). Because this uses AC97 Audio, I'm not sure if that would interfere with bit perfect transfer or if the AC97 only kicks in for the 'listening' part. Assuming you're looking to use an AMD processor (vs. Intel), IWill also makes motherboards with the CMI 8738 audio chip and sells the appropriate connector bracket, called 'IWill Super Audio'. Don't have any experience with those. Of all the motherboards I checked out, the Soyo was my favorite but there are distribution and warranty issues in Canada (no distributor....no warranty, 1 dealer brings them in direct). I also started out looking for onboard audio but ended up getting the Asus board with the VIA 266 chipset and skipping the audio. I've checked the Asus manual and can't find anything regarding the appropriate connectors for the version with the onboard audio (same manual as mine). I continue to use my Zoltrix nightingale for digital transfers. Check the archives for more info on that. You can get one for $35-50. david ============================== From: "Steve Mew" Subject: soundcard for A7N266-E (nFORCE420) Series Date: Sun, 30 Dec 2001 20:53:27 -0800 I've been meaning to upgrade my comp when i came across this motherboard which features an integrated soundcard. what do you guys think? it's got spdif digital in and out which is what i need. anyone have any problems with it? http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7n266-e/overview.htm -steve ------------------------------ From: mike hooker Subject: pending trades Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2001 18:56:21 -0500 hi, i had a lot of hassles this past month, and i know i owe some trades. my work computer crashed, a computer i sent to my daughter at college was used by UPS for a rugby game, and my home computer nearly crashed. i also had to fire my sole employee at work, because he decided to try working with as little effort as possible. due to all that, i fell very behind in most everything. i lost some e mails ,ect. if i owe you a trade, please contact me so i can square it up. happy new year please see my music trading page: New URL http://hometown.aol.com/mhooker216/myhomepage/index.html have fun, mike hooker ------------------------------ From: "Robert O'Haire" Subject: Harry Smith info Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2001 19:02:56 -0500 Let us excel in the New Year. The tuner is manual and the = output is 1/8" mono. Reception quality is low. It made a big difference = where you pointed the thing which makes me think that a better unit might = get better reception. I'd like to get a little proactive and get my own stereo digital tuner. = Radioshack has some neat, compact digital receivers. =20 Some research on the net has noted that the FM style ALDs work in two = frequency ranges. These are 72 to 76 MHZ and 216 to 217 MHZ. This makes = sense when you look at your standard tuners that work from 88MHZ to 108 = MHZ (you won't be able to tune into the ALD freq.). I guess TV is in = there somewhere around 44 or something. These are the regs set by FCC = anyway. Some places may operate on rogue frequencies, I don't know. =20 My questions are: Has anyone found or created their own tuner that is = capable of tuning in to these other frequency bands? If so, will you = please share with me? Any hints are appreciated. I HAVE looked at past entries on the DAT Heads = posts. They concentrate mostly on the general idea of using the ALD = device. Many people argue that it won't work. It does work, but you = could get better results with something I don't have. =20 I haven't tried contacting an ALD mfr. directly yet. And I'll be = surprised if they have higher end digital tuners with stereo output. I = already understand that many soundboard mixes are mono. I don't care = about that. Mailto:avan.heyst@quicknet.nl ------------------------------ From: "Gary Davis" Subject: New Year's Eve MegaTaping for 30 years! Reply-to: gdavis@loop.com Date: Tue, 1 Jan 2002 06:51:34 -0800 30 years ago, New Year's Eve 1971, I started taping the Top 100 songs off the radio. That year I used extra-thin tape on a 7" reel, in quarter-track mono (meaning that the tape had 4 sides instead of 2), to fit the whole show on one tape. Within a few years, I had switched to 10" reels so I could record the countdown in stereo, then came Beta HiFi and finally DAT. Meantime, video went stereo, and in the 80's and 90's I recorded the MTV countdown as well as the radio. MTV followed their countdown with a party show of live music, and by the mid-90's I was looking for all the live music on TV New Year's eve, in addition to the radio and video countdowns. In recent years, I went "off the beaten path" to find satellite feeds of the Phish concert (2000), a Canadian concert, and even a rather bizarre show for Cox cable. This year, I stuck with established commercial broadcast channels (ie, TV networks) but enhanced the process by recording the live performance clips directly to DVD with the new Panasonic stand- alone DVD recorder. There were a number of sources this year, including ABC, FOX, MTV, dance music on MTV2, a countdown on Much Music, & Leno, Conan, Kilborne, so... I used 3 DirecTV feeds, plus my C-band (large) dish, Dish Network, and ExpressVu (Canada), all into TiVo's and then to DVD and/or tape. At once point I was taping 5 different sources at once. (I could have gone up to 7 simultaneous sources, without even using my TV antenna!) I taped for 13 1/2 consecutive hours to make the "live performances" DVD, which worked out almost exactly to 2 hours length - not including the punk and metal from MTV, which I decided to put on a separate punk and metal DVD. Bush played 4 songs on 2 different shows, and with the TiVos I managed to get those consecutive for a mini-Bush concert in the middle of the disc. It's 5am now, but wait, the next big project is just starting! I've given up on MTV's countdown (awful music) in favor of Much Music's countdown (also awful so far), which they broadcast on New Year's day, which is now, so I have another 8 hours of TiVo-buffered (commercial edit) recording to tape ahead of me presently... But wait, there's much much more! The KROQ countdown and new year's eve party put 12 hours onto DAT - pretty much automatically but with the commercials stuck on the tape (generally a no-no). And, there were 10 hours of commercial-free DJ "techno" sets tonight on MTV2 (formerly M2) - that went to TiVo and DishPVR. Those turned out to be mainly audio (nothing important on the picture) so perhaps to CDRs.... Plus, DirecTV added 2 new "FreeView" concerts this morning - Willie Nelson and Bela Fleck, and MTV has a "USO" concert tomorrow morning - this adds up to 6 hours --- With the KROQ and MTV2, that's 28 hours of pure music that I haven't even started working on... With the 2hr DVD and 8 hours of Much countdown, that's 38 hours of music total! Plus, last night, trying to finish up 2001's news SVCDs, I finished a 4- SVCD set of Ashleigh Banfield's travels in Afghanistan... I wonder what I'll tape in 2002? --Gary ------------------------------ From: "Rick B." Subject: FS: AKG c1000s & 15' Stand Date: Tue, 01 Jan 2002 09:19:24 -0800 If your looking for a great [cheap] way to start taping I'm selling my AKG c1000s mics and my 15 foot mic stand. I'm just more interested in stealth taping. -The AKG c1000s have only been used once. There are in perfect condition and I have everything that orignally came with it. I'll even throw in a pair of 20 foot XLR>1/4 cable -The 15 foot mic stand is black and has some paint wear but works perfect. It comes with stereo t-bar. If your interested please e-mail and make me an offer.
