hi all
WSM is phasing out its grand ole opry broadcasts and bluegrass/traditional
country programming. more than a radio station--WSM is an institution. wish
we could preserve it as a national resource or something, but we cant. so
instead, i signed this.
go to the link in this mssg and sign the online petition. so far over 1200
people have signed it. you know how hard it is to get these folks to change
their minds, but you at least HAVE TO TRY!!sorry for the spam, but i believe
its worth it.
thanks
kip
URGENT!! Keep it "Too Country & Proud of It!" As you have
probably already heard, WSM-AM 650 is seriously considering
switching their format from classic country music to "Sports
Talk" in the next few weeks. I have just read and signed the
online petition: "SAVE 650 WSM - AM!" hosted on the web by
PetitionOnline.com, the free online petition service,
at: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/savewsm/
I personally agree with what this petition says, and I think
you might agree, too. If you can spare a moment, please take
a look, and consider signing yourself and forwarding to
anyone who might be interested too!

Subject: Strange Circumstances
Date: Thu, 3 Jan 2002 16:09:42 -0800 (PST)
I’ve had a strange problem since 1997 with my Sony
D-7, where I have recorded a show, then when playing
it back after recording, there is only silence.
Before, it was somewhat frustrating, but I dealt with
it since it doesn’t happen too often. But this last
weekend it happened again, but under stranger
circumstances. This is what happened:
I was recording three different bands the same night.
The first band I taped with my mics into the mic input
everything was working fine. The second and third
band I taped from the soundboard into the line in. I
had set the levels and checked that everything was
fine throughout each of bands sets. All looked fine.
Between each set I had stopped the tape. When it came
to listen to the recordings, both the first and second
bands performances were completely blank. The tape had
advanced fine, but there was two hours of silence. The
third bands set turned out fine.
Why did this happen on the first two (one with the mic
and one through the soundboard), but not the last?
This has happened about two other times in the past.
On another occasion, I had listened to a recording
that I had just made, and everything turned out great,
but when I played back the tape again the same day, it
had mysteriously erased the tape during the first
playback (which I didn’t think could be physically
possible).
The reason why I’m asking this question is because it
will be hard to replicate when sending it in for
repairs. I feel like I have had enough slightly
different occurrences that something might be evident
to somebody. If anybody has any ideas or clues on
what might be happening, I would be very grateful.
Thanks,
Mark Wamsley

Subject: Remote control for JVC deck
Date: Thu, 3 Jan 2002 16:15:26 -0800
Hi everyone, and happy new year.
I have a remote control for a JVC XD-Z507 up for auction on Ebay if anyone
needs one. Just search for JVC DAT.
I'm new to DAT recording and picked up some odds and ends from a small
studio that was liquidating. The remote was in the batch but not the deck
itself. I also acquired a Sony 59ES and Panasonic SV-3500. I'm using the
decks more than I thought I would, and can't believe I didn't get into this
medium earlier!
The DAT-Heads FAQ was very helpful in getting me up to speed quickly.

Chet

Hi all. This is mainly for the European tapers out there. The band Train will be heading for your neck of the
planet in a couple weeks. If anyone can make any of these shows and record, please drop me a line:
Sun 1/13 Academy Manchester, England
Mon 1/14 Barrowland Ballroom Glasgow, Scotland
Wed 1/16 Shepherds Bush Empire London, England
Thu 1/17 Radio 2 show London, England
Sun 1/20 013 Club Tilburg
Tue 1/22 Gota Kollare Stockholm
Wed 1/23 Sondagsoppet TV Stockholm
Sun 1/27 Que Ili Che Il Clacio TV Milan
Mon 1/28 Alcatraz Milan
Wed 1/30 Elysee Montmarte Paris
Thu 1/31 MTV Supersonic TV performance Milan
Train is a taper friendly band, but you may have to stealth anyway. Also, you may be able to ask their
manager, Thomas about getting your gear in.
I have plenty of shows to trade in return, including several masters.
Thanks.

Subject: Manuals for Dat Decks
Date: Thu, 3 Jan 2002 17:15:12 -0800
Hey people I have a bit of a question.
About two years ago I bought a sony DTC-59ES Dat deck for 50 bucks at a
pawn shop
there are two quircks in the unit that are not like wear and tear
things:
1. It doesn't seem to listen to trackmarks (start-id) from the Optical
port.
2. if using a 120M DDS It won't rewind the tape at full speed until it
gets to abs 01:59:59
I use a DDS drive to rewind all my tapes anyway so no biggie here, but
still, a small annoyance.
Also, does anyone on the list have a collection of the user/service
manuals like those found on minidisc.org?
If not, let's start one.
I need the DTC-59ES manual first though :)
Can you please help with these annoying quirks!
If you have a paper manual that you are willing to sell or give me so I
can copy (or send xeroxes) I will make it worth your while.
thanks.

I am selling my Sony D7 Dat and Sony 7 Pin Optical Cable. I purchased the
D7 about 1 year ago used. I don't know how many total hours are on the
heads, but it is in perfecting working condition. I recently picked up a M1
so I no longer have the need for it. The 7 Pin Optical cable was bought new
a year ago. I still have the original box. This cable combined with the
midiman co2 is nice alternative to people who can't find any Sony 7 Pin
Coaxial cables. Looking for about $250 for the D7 and $50 for the optical
cable. Best offer gets it.
