So I had thought I was a lucky one, having no problems with my tascam,
BUT....my 700 records fine, but it won't play the discs it records.
Anyone else have this trouble?
Anyone have any ideas as to why?
Anyone know where I should send this for service?
thanks

Sorry no DAT content but I finally got a new computer with all the bells and
whistles and could do CD-R away from my stand alone CD burner. So I'm stoked
I can get the cheap computer grade cd-rs now but! when i burn a straight copy
a live disc to another at the track marks there is a small glitch. not a
pause but like if someone had spliced tape, removed .02 seconds, and spliced
it back together. Anyone know how to fix this? otherwise this program is
useless for burning live cds.
Anyone that can help me will def. get a few free CD-Rs from my collection.
thanks,
Dave

The DPA 4061s have to be powered, so you'll either need a battery box
like the one we supply with our High End Binaural mic set (which use DPA
4060 and 4061 capsules) or some other arrangement.
If I recall correctly, the TRV-15 does not have a low sensitivity
setting for its mic pre-amp, so you should probably use a 20 dB
attenuator cable between the 4061s and the Sony.

Subject: DAT repair question
Asked:
> A) is there some sort of "standard" tape used for in-play alignment--
Yes, and they are not inexpensive. Sony and Matsushita both offer them.
Note that they are indeed a standard. Using a standard tape with the proper
additional alignment tapes (there are 3 needed), jigs and measurement
equipment insure that the tapes made on the machine in question play on
other machines and that tapes play and record properly on it. I cannot
stress enough that if one does not know what one is doing, either don't do
it or take the machine to someone that does know.
> I use a tape recorded on a different deck, and it may not necessarily be
> perfectly aligned--
A DAT alignment tape is not just a tape that has been recorded on another
machine, although it is indeed recorded on a known standard deck. It is
missing some signal components to allow the viewed signal to show certain
parameters for proper adjustment as viewed on an oscilloscope. A similar
pattern is displayed for alignment of VCR's; it has to do with RF envelope
level and geometry in relation to timing of the head switching.
> should any other "alignment roller" ..... be messed with?
The term "alignment" has a number of subsets; in the case of a typical
Panasonic DAT deck, the alignment instructions cover some 20 pages. In the
case of some Sony portables, the adjustments are not only mechanical, but
software-based as well. These are accessible by and can be screwed up by
menus. My advice has always been not to "mess" with it.
Thanks!

Hi Folks,
Recently while cleaning out the storage room, I happened upon a box of
about 120 DATs. Mostly Dead, of course, but a few others too. I guess
that's
what happens when your collection gets too big. These 120 DATs went
missing and unnoticed for about five years...
Anyway, some of the tapes seem to have gotten something in them that
looks
like a whitish dust or mold. It appears on the side of the tape pack.
As I've been
archiving these tapes to CD/R, a few have broken :( ... so I don't want
to continue
until I try to figure out if I can do anything about it.
Any ideas? I tried rewind/FF, but the tapes seem just as likely to
break doing
this as when simply playing them. It seems the tape has become stuck to
itself more
strongly than the tape itself is strong. 90m tapes are the worst of
course, and of
course they have the most music to be lost :(
Thanks and happy new year!

sorry this is to the list; delete it now if you dont give a rats ass, but my name was just plastered all over the place, and i wanted to respond publicly. bob and i have already exchanged private emails, and i STILL think he's a nice guy, doing good work, but again, where this was so publicly posted, i'm publicly replyn'.
first of all, bob, your very charitable offer didnt disturb me at all. i said as much a few different times in my letter. what does disturb me now is the fact that you posted your reply to almost every respectable list out there, even though i only replied to the note you wrote in GDHtrading. I didnt see your offer listed on dat-heads, or budd, or e-mule, or digiphish, or the pranksters tree, or soFlatt, or anywhere else, and i certainly didnt send my comments to those lists, but for some reason, you saw fit to post there. in fact, i dont subscribe to a few of them, so they wont see my reply to you, but they will certainly see you blasting me. nice.
anyway, i hope you dont mind if i reply piecemeal to your post, for accuracy's sake, and so that we are all clear what i am responding to. i will include your comments in the customaryt brackets, like this; >>>
so here goes;
>>>yea I use some "drastic moves" to
collect some times, but this show is available out there, and people that have donated a lot of money.. know that... >>>>
i said that charity begins in an individual's heart. if someone wants to danate anything at all, then that is thier choice. i personally have four different organizations that get a yearly donation from me, as i know that they have made a difference in the lives of many people. peresonally, i wouldnt tie a b&p offer contigant on thier donating to my favorite charity, but i hold no ill will towards you that you do. i think, for the most part, that its nice of you to do what you can to help. you are correct, the show is out there. i have it coming myself, from an offer that was made to these lists, and it didnt include any cash at all. and out of respect for what you are doing, i wont offer it up til you can do what your doing. i said as much in my initial letter.
>>>>These people know what they are
doing, and half of them don't get the music that easy...have you ever been
in the position of having no collection, no means of cloning, and waited
patiently to be accepted for a B&P offer >>>>>
of course i have, and with the kindness of others, my collection has expanded greatly. in fact, when i first got my dat decks, there was someone who offered to make me 50 (yes, fifty) dats to get me started, as well as many offers to join him at shows and patch out of his setup. (eternaly grateful to you, paul) so is what you are saying something like; if you have no recourse, donate cash to a fund that i choose, and i'll get you the show?
if that is the case, then just say it. no big deal
>>>>As for the "only $10" I wrote that after getting over 100 Emails as to what
is an acceptable donation (and answering all of them) >>>>>
thats per set, or as you originaly said, about $80 bucks for the complete nights shows. ok, bob, so you are a hero to the people who cant get ahold of this any other way. still though, $80 is no small piece of coin. and again, i commended you for also saying that you'd be spreading it around after. very nice. but also, you originaly wrote, in the letter that i initially responded to;
>>>>>and if you were to buy a set of CD's from a record
> store selling bootlegs, you would be expected to pay at least $30
> to $50 per
> set,>>>>>
Is this a justification? please keep in mind, i started and ended my letters complimenting on your efforts to raise money for the daughter of allen woody. who really cares how much a sleazy bootlegger might sell something for, do any of us acctually go that route? and for that matter, how would you even know the current rates for selling bootleg material? (this is not a dig at you, just curious; i honestly wouldnt know where to find dead or phil boots)
>>>>> I had people saying that they would gladly pay $10 for the whole run, I
guess they not knowing how big this offer was....13 or so Disc's. When I
responded to these $10 offers, these people immediately raised there offer!
So I guess with the post I made w/ the dollar amounts, was to spire some
people the embarrassment of feeling cheap. But there is no Cheap to it $5 or
$200 it is all from the heart! IMO
>>>>>>>
completely agree with you, an offer to help is an offer to help.
>>>In fact, Most should be pleased that I had decided to do this other wise,
these tapes wouldn't make it out there as fast!>>>>
i would agree and disagree with that. yes, you are spreading it far and wide, but also, you are asking the people who recieve it from you (as well as the people who are offering it independantly of you) not to spread it around. i responded to an offer almost five days ago, made on this very list (or budd; the only major 2 dead lists worth reading, imo). if the person who offered it up to me puts the brakes on getting it out there, out of respect for you, then that definately holds things up greatly. i'd point to the original crusader rabbit show as proof at how fast one person making a few offer can spawn multiple offers, so that everyone who wants it has the chance to get it in about a week.
>>>>Trust me......... I have better things to do with my time right now, I am so
behind in work and bills, that my wife (God Bless Her) should divorce me!
Well...I hope I didn't put my foot in my mouth again, w/ this post...but a
guys got to do what the spirit tells him to do! Can you imagine the trades
that I could have gotten with these tape %^}<<<<<<<
dear god, do i ever hear that comment about a wife frowning on a trading habit. mine calls it my one remaining "addiction" from the old days. also, i dont think now or previously that you put your foot in your mouth, but perhaps i do feel you put it across my throat by posting your letter to practicaly every respectable list. again, i cant even reply to half of them, so they'll now know me as some charity basher.
one last thing though, and i dont mean to be negative;
>>>>PS. I don't need to meet Warren... we have met, several times...I even
spent hours w/ him, after the Xmas Jam at the private party for the artists
he had after the Xmas Jam, ah...the memories %^}<<<<<
thats nice. i dont need to meet warren either. i did too, at a mule show with about twenty people in the audience. big deal. hooray for me. i also got jimmy herrings home address, written in his hand on my cassette case j-card when he asked if he could get a copy of the show.(bruce hampton & ARU). lots of us have met people we really dig (favorite memory? smoking skunk bud with ray manzanarik, on stage). if it really doesnt matter to you, then donate the cash annonomously, in a quiet way, with a humble heart. or, grab what you can and live it up. i'm not judging you either way, but if its not about metting warren, why are you holding out the $$ collected til he shows up?
anyway, no offence meant to you at all, and i humbly apologize if anyone came to the conclusion that whoever taped this show for you has dirty toes.

Hi all. For those of you that like Pink Floyd, there was a tribute show of PK music this past saturday in
St. Louis. The band Stir, along with a couple friends, went under the name El Monstero Y Los Masked Avengers
for the 3rd year in a row for a tribute show at The Pageant Theatre. They played stuff from The Wall, the entire
Dark Side, and a few others mixed in. I did an aud. recording with my DAT & Sony Digital 8 video camera from the
SBD area. Everything came out nice.
Anyone who likes Stir or Pink Floyd, and would like to trade, drop me a line.
Thanks.

Aside from one posting about there being no error correction, and time
spent editing errors--have any of you bought this drive and had positive
results? 44.1 and 48K? Any possibilities of 32K? What hardware/software

I have 2 rather old Plotnick 7pin in/out cables lying around. Both
have erratic ins, but functional outs. I have had on occasion
(though not always) had trouble feeding a Sony portable with each of
them. However, both should work to send a signal out of a Sony. If
anyone could use them, I'll take $50 for the pair, as is, payable via
Paypal. I'll cover shipping.
