Hey Kevin,
Yes you can disable the onboard soundcard, or should I say that I've
never seen a m/board that would allow this (read "pretty unlikely").
Used to be a jumper on the m/board (refer to its manual) but all I see
now is a setting in the system setup (bios) for enabling or disabling it
(again, look in the manual it may describe how to en/dis-able it). For
that matter, you don't even have to disable it. In this case though you
would have to make sure that the digi-card was assigned to a different
address & IRQ (which it may be by PnP anyway) and you would have to
select which device should be receiving the data (music), similar to
selecting which printer you want to print to if you have multiple printers.
Peace,
Sean

I got a 6 volt 7ah sealed lead acid battery from radioshack. I am trying to
make my own "echocharge" system at a fraction of cost. How do I determine
the neccesary fuse size from the specs on the D8? Or if anyone has the
echocharge unit... what size fuse do they use?
Thanks!

Ya might look also at the Fostex unit. Like the HHB Machines, it's
made by Pioneer. The Fostex is on sale at FullCompass.com (free plug)
in Wisconsin for about $400.00! That's a heck of a deal if they have
any left (call their 800 number next monday and see)
Pioneer makes machines for a lot of different companies. I don't know
them all, but I am sure that Fostex and HHb brand them as their own.
Tascam and Fostex are sort of related in that I think some of
Tascam's engineers left Tascam to form Fostex in the 1970's or 80's.
good luck!
-t
So now, I'm comparing the Tascam to the HHB CDR830.
Is HHB related to Pioneer somehow? Their Professional
Division? (Teac a la Tascam.) For some reason I
thought so, but someone else said no.
Feature-wise, the Tascam and HHB seem really similar...

pretty nice for the money, but I don't know anything about them. Anyone got

The DMIC-20 compared to a hi end rig holds its own!
I run (in the section) MK41's>V2>AD2K+>DAP1...
My buddy Rick runs MK4's>DMIC-20>M1.....
Rick's tapes always come out very smooth and balanced. The DMIC-20 has a
very clean, natural & uncolored sound. The V2>AD2K+ combo does also w/
some added beefiness and detail. But in some situations his smaller rig
really shines through.
When another 5db gain would be to much a high power play back system is
beneficial w/ this unit. Just turn it up!
IMO, w/ a good pair of mic's this is one of my favorite pieces of gear.

This is getting even further off topic, but the other thing to be
aware of is that Outpost.com is now owned by Fry's Electronics,
the Silicon Valley superstore known for incredible selection,
take-no-prisoners business practices, and abysmal service. It's
probably just a matter of time before Outpost.com just means Fry's
Internet point of presence. (But hey, I still spend some time
wandering around the brick-and-mortar stores every week...)

if you were staying at 20 bits, this is true. When you take out the least
significant bits (And I believe the dmic20 just truncates them insted of
doing proper dither, but I may be wrong), you are cutting the resolution to
16 bits, period. So you have 96ish dB -7 dB or whatever your margin is.
The only way to preserve the dynamic range would be to write the wav as 20
bits, then normalize it to 0 dB, then dither it to 16 bit. Otherwise '20
bits' on a 16 bit device is just hype (note that the apogee ad1000 is a bit
of an exception to this, as it does do proper dither using uv-22, but still
peaking at or near 0dB will yield a better recording. Again, it would still
be better to use the apooge without dither and write the wav at 20 bit, then
normalize, then dither. but most people would rather run it on the fly than
worry about getting 90 vs 96 dB of dynamic range.

Namaste Y'all and a Happy New Year as well!
Here's my problem:
I use a Philips CDR-870 to burn directly from my
Tascam DA-302.
In the Auto track mode the Philips would track right
along with the Start Ids on tape in my 302 (via the
coax connections on both units).
Now the Philips won't recognize the new Start IDs as
they progress along a tape in my 302.
The Philips WILL recognize Start IDs from a tape in my
M1 (using a 7-pin>coax cable).
The funny thing is that the 302 IS sending a digi
signal to the Philips, it's just that as i stated
before, it won't track along with what's on the dat...
I have searched the archives an couldn't find anything
which addresses this anomoly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(i have tried running the 302>M1>Philips with no luck)
thank you
and
take care
