From: "Steve Rodgers,Photographer" <lens@sprintmail.com> Subject: Looking for advice on AT822 Reply-To: lens@sprintmail.com Date: Sun, 13 Jan 2002 01:34:25 -0500 I just got a great deal on a Sony M1 from a pawn shop ($200) who sells on eBay and I need a good all-purpose mic to use for recording...acoustic/electric etc.. What do you guys think of the Audio Technica AT822? How did it get its name as the "Grateful Dead mic" ? Last time I saw the Dead was in '68 at the Boston Tea Party with Cream...talk about a wall of sound ooooompaaaahhhh. they thudded my chest and iIcan still feel it...much like a great football hit. BAM! Does anyone have a used one for sale? I can get one on eBay for around $175 but would like to pay less as I am the King of Cheap! Just an old hippie survivor who is still around against all the odds.. Email me if you have one you'd like to liberate one for cash...or tell me why I don't want/need one...whatever..... Lens

Their claims make them sound >pretty nice for the money, but I don't know anything about them. Anyone got >a recording sample? That would be even better. Thanks in advance! > >Matt I got one of these for my project studio and I like it a lot. For the money (~$250?) they're hard to beat. It's not a U87, but you are not paying U87 prices. I haven't done a lot of location recording with it yet. Edwin -- Edwin Hurwitz Boulder CO http://www.indra.com/~edwin
From: Edwin Hurwitz <edwin@indra.com> Subject: Oktava mics Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2002 23:38:38 -0700 >From: JamesHelgerson@aol.com >Subject: Info Needed On Oktave Mics >Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2002 09:01:00 EST > >What can you tell me about Oktava o12 mics? Are they any good at >all? I know they're rather inexpensive, but how do they sound? What >kind of frequency range do they have?? How much bd sound pressure >levels can they handle?????? The deal is that the Guitar Center Oktava mics have had very little quality control done on them. They are not matched. There are some companies that take these mics and match them and tweak them so that they are quite good. The price is commensurately higher. If you do a search, I am sure that you can find more. I got my info from Wind Over The Earth, here in Boulder. They sell the tweaked varieties, so you might look at their website. Edwin -- Edwin Hurwitz Boulder CO http://www.indra.com/~edwin
From: Green1224@aol.com Subject: Help with digi-pops at the ends of tracks Date: Sun, 13 Jan 2002 09:32:44 EST I own an Acer external burner, used with my Toshiba laptop. I have compiled a CD of tracks from various sources and, when burning them onto disk, have found digi-pops occur at the ends of the tracks only. Can someone help me with this problem? Please email me privately regarding this. Thanks in advance, Darren

From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: Trade Offer:2 Clapton w/D&B Fillmore shows for Dead RCMH 1980 shows Date: Sun, 13 Jan 2002 11:30:34 EST I'm looking to upgrade all the nights of the Dead's 1980 Radio City Music Hall run to CDRs from masters. I know all these commonly circulate and each show fits on 3 CDs. To make this as easy as possible, I'd like to find 8 people, who each have one of the RCMH shows and who like Clapton circa Derek and The Dominoes, to trade with. These two Fillmore Delaney and Bonnie shows include all four guys in Derek and The Dominoes and also fit on 3 CDs. A relative is already circulating these on several other lists, so I'm copying his posted info (below) for convenience. If you have one of the Radio City 1980 Dead shows and these 2 shows are of interest, please get in touch. I'll also do a few B&Ps for b/w tax. Thanks, Alan Details on the Fillmore shows: If you like Clapton in Derek & The Dominoes, here's the whole band six months earlier at the Fillmore East as part of Delaney & Bonnie & Friends. What would soon become The Stones horn section is also in the band plus Dave Mason, who had just split from Traffic. Nice audience master reels of 2 complete shows on 3 CDs. D&B sure knew how to recruit musicians. This band kicks ass! It is in working condition, except that one channel does not record properly. Perhaps it's easy to fix, I don't know. This is a 3-head deck, a good one by SONY. I'll give it for a symbolic price: $10. I live in Barcelona, so shipping costs might be a big problem. Jose Garcia elektrik@navegalia.com

Motherboard Date: Sun, 13 Jan 2002 12:46:03 -0500 From what I've heard you may have trouble running the Onboard Sound and another soundcard if they both use the same chip (e.g. CMI 8738) which would be the case if, for example, you plugged a Zoltrix into a Soyo Dragon, etc. Alan > From: Sean Cartwright > Subject: RE: ??? From: "Kris Sproul" <kris@ksproul.threadnet.com> Subject: Taping request - Virgos Date: Sun, 13 Jan 2002 20:40:01 -0500 I'm interested in finding people to tape one of the opening acts, Virgos, on the Creed arena tour that starts this Wednesday. I believe almost every show is sold out, so I'm mainly looking for people who might already be planning to go to see Creed, Tantric, or Virgos. I'm only interested in having the Virgos set taped, which will be the first at each show, and probably about 30 minutes long. Here are the tour dates: 01/16/02 - Atlanta, GA - Philips Arena 01/18/02 - Birmingham, AL - BJCC Arena 01/19/02 - Bossier City, LA - CenturyTel Center 01/21/02 - Houston, TX - Compaq Center 01/24/02 - New Orleans, LA - New Orleans Arena 01/25/02 - Dallas, TX - Reunion Arena 01/27/02 - Cleveland, OH - Gund Arena 01/28/02 - Philadelphia, PA - First Union Center 02/01/02 - East Rutherford, NJ - Continental Airlines Arena 02/04/02 - Toronto, ON - Air Canada Centre 02/05/02 - Grand Rapids, MI - Van Andel Arena 02/07/02 - Boston, MA - FleetCenter 02/08/02 - Washington, DC - MCI Center 02/11/02 - Auburn Hills, MI - Palace Of Auburn Hills 02/13/02 - Rosemont, IL - Allstate Arena 02/14/02 - Milwaukee, WI - Bradley Center 02/16/02 - St. Paul, MN - Xcel Energy Center 02/17/02 - Kansas City, MO - Kemper Arena Due to the fact that these are arena shows, you'll probably have to go stealth. But if anyone is planning on attending, I'd GREATLY appreciate having the Virgos set recorded. They're an amazing band. I'm not interested in Creed or Tantric. If anyone is interested in helping me out, please reply via e-mail to: kris@ksproul.threadnet.com Thanks, Kris
