Hi Everyone -
I wanted to let you all know of two really exciting
new products that are being introduced at this year's
NAMM show:
1) Apogee Mini*Me - Portable Mic Pre and 24/96 A/D Converter:
http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/prod_minime.html
PDF data sheet:
http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/prod_minime.html
- No pricing or availability information yet - everything
is still preliminary - but it looks great: Apogee audio quality;
AES & SPDIF outputs; USB I/O; Independent L/R control...
2) Marantz is introducing a PORTABLE CD-R Recorder. Again, this is
a preliminary unit so a spec sheet is not yet available but I
will make sure to post any information I receive as soon as I get it.
As always, please feel free to call me at (888) 462-7828 if you have=20
any questions about these new products.
Thank you for the bandwidth.
Be well -

Hey folks. Just checked out the link below on Apogee's new 24 bit portable
Pre/AD, the Mini-Me. Anyone have any experience with this unit? I'm
curious how it compares to the AD2K+. With a substantially lower price tag
(not to mention the built-in preamp), it looks like a great piece of gear.

OK, my two cents worth too....good debate on this topic, many valid points
expressed on all sides, but one main point has still been missed by
everyone....INTENT!!! It should be obvious as to if someone is trying to
get $.50-$2.00 for a $2 tape, or actually trying to make a profit! AMEN to
those who have pointed out that smaller acts make their money entirely on
the road....support them by paying for your ticket/cover charge, buying
their merchandise, and sharing the music without trying to profit off of
someone else's hard work. Who cares exactly how a liquidation or a B&P is
handled, as long as it looks fair and shows that there is no way for the
numbers to add up to a "profit".....intent should be obvious.....
Thanks for the posting,

I usually do not respond, however, it's time!
First of all I would like to say that I beleieve that I have a high level of morals when it comes to my taping hobby. I have been taping for over 20 years. Now that I have said that lets get honest. Alot of times I am taping shows without the permission or the knowledge of the artist!!!! Lets face it, this is morally incorrect!!! However, I will justify it by saying "I don't sell them & it is not hurting anyone"! Well that may be true, but it doesn't make it any more right. I ask artist whenever possible if it is o.k. to record, this raises me to a higher level of righteousness, correct? Wrong! If I don't think that they will say yes, I just don't ask (well they didn't say no). I understand that we are all trying to avoid the same thing, the bootleggers that are really recording stuff for a profit! These are the REAL bad guys, However I beleive that if they really want the shows, they will find them. Just like bootleg whiskey in prohibition or drugs today, you are not going to stop them. I do not beleive that this is an ecological thing either. Granted that it may impact the ecology, that is not what is really going on here. What I see is a bunch of self-righteous individuals who are not angels themselves wanting to control what others are doing when We are all really in the same boat! I know that this is bound to offend someone, however, I now feel better. And remember one thing, these recordings are not copyrighted....they are bootlegged! If you did not have permission to record them, then you stole it!!! O.K. I have to go record a show......stealth, of course.
PEACE & BLESSINGS,
STUART

Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 14:04:52 -0500
Some of you may have seen Doyle Bramhall II when he toured the US with Roger
Waters in '99 and 2000, and some others may have seen him when he was
opening for Clapton this past summer. For those of you who've never heard
of him, I'd say his style is a combination of Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan,
Albert Collins, Al Green, Cream, and the Beatles.
I'm running a tree of his two shows as performed this past January 4th and
5th at Antone's in Austin, Texas, totalling four CD's and currently
entitled, "Welcome Home." If any of you might be interested in signing up,
please visit the following URL:

If you have any questions please contact me at the following address:

Subject: Windows 2k Pro and Delta Dio 2496
Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 13:41:41 -0600
Yesterday, I installed 2k Pro on my Dell Dimension 4100 866 MHz, 512MB
RAM. During the installation process, it let me know what hardware and
software I might have problems with. Hardware problems were my
printer(upgrading drivers fixed that), the Delta Dio 2496, and the Intel
82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443. Software problems were
WinDVD(reinstalled, now working), Delta H/W program(which is what you use
to control the card, such as settings levels, sampling rates, etc...),
SmartFTP(reinstalled, now working), and 3Com NIC Doctor(network card
software. I found new drivers for it, and it works now.) I have spent
about four hours taking out the card, uninstalling it, reinstalling it
with the drivers on www.midiman.com, and none of the combinations seem to
work. Whenever I reinstall it, I bring up Delta H/W, and it says "unable
to find audio hardware". If I go to the device manager, the device
status says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I follow the
troubleshooter's instructions, which are exactly what I had been doing
and it doesn't work. Is there anyone who can tell me what the Intel
82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller - 2443 is, and if it affects the Delta Dio?
What should I do? I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing
seems to work.
Thanks,
Andrew

Apogee has introduced a new portable preamp/converter that replaces the
AD1000 at a third the price. And the feature list is amazing: USB,
24bit/96kHz, built-in compressor! Color me ecstatic!

I see no connection between this and
DAT-heads. Its not taping related,
just a for sale posting. There
are better outlets for that and please
use those going forward.
