Most tapers including myself buy new DAT stock, maybe ffwd/rewind it, then
record the material on it. You and others have characterized these as
"used DATs...worth, what, 50 cents?" So commercially recorded DATs, which
undergo a similar process are also used DATs by that rationale. Used DDS
tapes are often from data backups, which involve much more vigorous
winding/rewinding of the tape in DDS drives. These tapes, which often have
residue from labels, then go through another process of conditioning before
being sold shouldn't be compared to freshly recorded DAT tapes. I don't
think the depiction of archive DATs as worn out, or otherwise used to a
significant point is fair. Old, worn out tapes are generally not used by
anybody. When I delete DATs from my collection, it's usually just for three
CDRs (ostensibly about 50-80 cents anyway). It's a fair deal, and not
unreasonable for us to just trust each other and not overpay, and just
consider any monetary compensation sufficient but not excessive for DAT
media costs. Most of us seem fair and there's bound to be some
variation. No use splitting hairs.

Check out California law about the resale of original artwork. (The
artist gets a cut of the profits.)

Selling (2) 11th row center seats for Greg Allman And Friends, Saturday,
February 16th, 2:30 pm. at Gulfstream Park, in Hallandale Beach,
Florida. The seats are $10 each, and I would mail them priority with
delivery confirmation, so $25 would cover everything.

For an AD1000 with the PS1000 (2-output power supply), I think that
might be toward the high end, but not excessive. It wasn't that long
ago that the cost would have been a lot higher, and I'm not so sure
about the "better" of more recent models (especially for field work).

I haven=92t seen this posted yet. Found it very interesting myself. I =
know
this is mainly a DAT related list, but I think this is pertinent since
so many do convert their DAT's to cd. Seems like a pretty major bug, at
least to those like me who are extremely anal about bit for bit accurate
copies.

I have the following DAT and DDS tapes that I have recently transfered to
CD-R that I would like to swap for CD-R's of similar music (The standard is
1 DAT for 2 CD-R, right?). Source and any known flaws denoted below. These
tapes were played twice, once for inserting the id marks and another time
for cloning to disc. Get in touch if interested in a quick swap.
Thanks for the bandwith,
Ryan

It appears that a pair of almost new Schoeps CMC6
preamps (no caps) in the wooden box walked off
from backstage at the Mercer Auditorium at the
Civic Center here in Savannah GA while I was
setting up other mics to record a symphony concert
8 days ago. If anyone is approached regarding a
pair for sale at a price that is too good to be
true, I would appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks!

Hi,
Does anyone know what SCMS-code the Sony SBM-1 A/D-converter is
producing?
I would hope that it is "00" since the one-and-only idea with this unit
is to make analog master recordings, but you never know ...
