My main area of interest is in The Who. To offer on DAT I have some master clones of Who/related shows from '89 -> '96 in the Denver area, from a taper that's a trading buddy of mine. A friend of mine also sent his '89 Who cassette masters (very good stereo recordings from the North East) which I have been transferring to DAT. I also have a couple of Clapton and Jeff Beck '60s shows on DAT. If anyone's interested in a Who DAT trade email me privately. Clapton's projects from the '60s as well as Mick Taylor era Stones are also of interest. Thanks, Rob ------------------------------ From: "Peter Popivchak" Subject: Sound Forge Resample Questio Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 15:51:16 -0500 Hey Now, Quick question for the group.... I'm in the process of putting a bunch of my buddies DATs onto CDR-- my equipment is Sony M1, Audiophile 24/96 and SoundForge 5.0. Here's the question: A DAT that I just put onto the hard drive was labeled as 48.0 khz, so I set the sound card at 48.0. Come to find out, the tape was actually recorded at 44.1 khz. If using Sound Forge, I resample the WAV file that was inadvertently recorded on the HD at 48.0 to 44.1 will I be screwing things up? Thanks much, Pete PS, as I'm a 'Digestifer', please email me directly if possible at: ppopivch@nycap.rr.com ------------------------------ From: Clancey Subject: FS or Trade: My D-5 for a preamp-slash-ad converter... Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 16:24:00 -0500 I am in need of a preamp\ad converter and a phantom power supply. Rather than going about selling my Fostex D-5 and using the money for them, I thought I would see if there was anyone who upgraded or was considering upgrading to a better preamp than, say the Zefiro Inbox and P2 power supply, who needs a really fine DAT deck. I've been using it primarily as a play deck, and sparingly at that. I don't want to go through ebay if I can help it, so I will sell the unit if I can't get a bite for a trade - make me an offer! take care, Clancey ------------------------------ From: AGROSKIN@aol.com Subject: FS: ad1000, ps 1000, and batteries Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 17:07:42 EST Mint condition ad 1000 with ps 1000, two 12v batteries, two chargers, manual and two 15 pin breakout cables. Unit was serviced by apogee last march, new word clock, 3 new front pannel pots, new lights, and latest version of the eprom, revision d. This is as good a unit as anyone could find anywhere. Normally, when I receive a new show on DAT I give it a good listen. If I hear diginoise, I quickly check the error counts. If the error counts are high at that spot, I ask for a re-clone. If the error counts stay low, I don't bother because I assume my source's DAT has the diginoise, as well. But, I'm thinking, is this necessarily true? Let's say my source's playback deck has dirty heads and plays a normally clean tape improperly resulting in diginoise, that noise appears on my clone of course, but do the error counts on *my* copy reflect this? So, could I have been wrong all along in assuming that since my DAT w/ diginoise has no error problems, my source's dat has the diginoise too? Its not a major issue in my life, but I'm very curious as to what you experts have to say on this matter. Thank you, sirs! Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 22:16:58 -0500 hello again, a couple of weeks back, I ventured to lovely old England from NYC to see David Gilmour at the Royal Festival Hall. I came back with 3 nice DAT masters. The 1st two nights are a bit too quiet during the early acoustic parts, but I fixed that a bit by the third night. All are quite nice and worth getting if you're a fan. I'm mainly looking for dat clones of DG's shows in Paris the following week (jan 23 and 24th, I believe). Video would be super, too. I'd also accept master/lowgen>dat from David's 1984 solo tour, Roger Waters' '84 '85 and '87 tours. Also, a couple of people have asked me to find them a copy of Roger Waters in San Antonio 2000, so if you have that, get in touch with me. I actually need the San Antonio gig myself, but since my Waters 2000 DAT collecting pretty much slowed to a crawl, I haven't had the inclination. With that said, I'd like to get back into it, so if you taped, or have 1st clones of Waters on DAT, I'm in need. As far as Pink Floyd goes, I'm pretty well set for 67-74, but I'm looking for masters from the 87-89 tours. Send some lists or links. Thanks for listening. I had problems with this unit which once submitted for repair, has resulted in a 10 month saga which I'm really keen to resolve. The unit has now been repaired by a Sony approved dealer to the tune of - new head, head amplifier and tape guides - but it still doesn't work correctly. 1. It seems to take a while to load the tape and spends a long time 'grumbling', sometimes it sounds almost painful. 2. I used a Maxell 60m data tape to record a gig which came out blank. Now I know some decks have issues with Maxell tapes but mine has never had a problem with them before the repair and has never recorded a blank tape before in 3 years of use. 3. I noticed that when I recorded the above mentioned blank tape and then unloaded the tape from the machine, the mechnism hadn't quite put the tape back in the cartridge. 5. The engineer now has the unit back and also notes that the machine is hesitant on rewind and when it FF's over tape ID's it very briefly drops the envelope level from the tape. Does this signify anything ? 6. There appears to be only one (unrelated) reference article to the D100 in the Sony database - can any other Sony repairers out there confirm this ? 7. The tape tension is set up as recommended but there seems to be drag on the head - is this expected on a new head ? Any hints greatly appreciated as we seem to have hit a bit of a wall on what to do next. thanks Wayne Ellis ------------------------------ From: Seth Breidbart Subject: Re: weird question regarding diginoise Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 08:29:57 -0500 (EST) > If the error counts stay low, I don't bother because I assume > my source's DAT has the diginoise, as well. This is just a follow up in case anyone is interested. The working solution i found last night was to set Nero up to burn the disc as CD Extra (thus putting the data into the last track, and in a separate session) rather than as a Mixedmode CDR. I had mis-read the Nero help file and thought that CD Extra wasn't supported... As far as I could tell, Nero doesn't allow you to write a track 0 (as was suggested as another method of hiding data); nor does it seem to allow you to write a track 1 with a negative index time (which would also hide the track, according to some suggestions). Summarizing: burning in CD Extra mode allows you to add data (label art, text description, pictures, etc...) to an audio cdr in such a way that the data is invisible to an audio cd player, but visible to your computer cd drive. cheers! -rand0m ------------------------------ From: randy@monkeybiz.Stanford.EDU Subject: new cdr burning question: TAO vs DAO Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 09:43:49 -0800 (PST) This may be something specific to Nero... Since you can set the pause between tracks to anything you like (obviously, using 0 for a disc of live material), is there any reason to go with DAO over TAO or vice-versa? I'm presuming that this is inregards to burning a disc where all of the source material (audio and/or data) has been preassembled, so that the disc will be finalized as soon as the material has been burned onto the disc. thanks! -rand0m ------------------------------ From: artood2 Subject: latest & greatest Rock B&P offer Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 10:34:20 -0800 Please only reply if you are serious as it deprives others of tapes if you choose not to send John Mellencamp 9/13/01 MA Metallica 2/11/97 Fargo ND Metallica ny ny 99 fm chatty dj u2 4/2/01 Houston Govt Mule 10/30/98 Black Crowes 10/9/96 IL 11/27/96 FLa 06/11/01 MA 7/4/97 Ma 6/30/97 Scranton Pa all are on brand name tape for the most part except mule all play(ed) fine on my decks looking for Blanks Or Black Crowes 1992 - 97 that I don't have from DAT or Analog masters- dat or of course blanks and postage view my DAT, CDR and VHS Lists at www.avroland.ca/dtc ------------------------------ From: "David J" Subject: DC area taper needed for May 8 Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 13:33:15 -0500 I'm looking for an experienced stealth taper in the Wash DC area for a very special club show on May 8 (that will probably sell out soon)...
