Actually they have reached the owner, but I am not currently in a position to give anyone else direct emails and have been archiving the requests until a slightly later time. I will try to catch them all and post here when its good, but you are also encouraged to resend the request in a month or so. Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 09:18:40 -0500 Hey gang. Anybody tape at the Pepsi Arena recently? Is it a problem getting your gear in? (pat downs, metal detectors, etc.) I plan on taping a show there this weekend, but I'm guessing major arenas now have beefed up security since the attacks. Anybody know? Thanks Tony ------------------------------ From: novy@UNIVERSAL-PRESS.com Subject: ISO: Ratdog Ticket for 2/23 (Taper) Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 08:52:15 -0600 Hello All, Just wondering if someone has an extra ticket or two for the Saturday Ratdog show coming up 2/23? Will spin a copy of the show for that person too. Please contact me off-line. Thanks, Steve ------------------------------ From: Mexminute@aol.com Subject: James Taylor / 11-14-92 Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 09:58:53 EST It is my hopes that someone out there has a copy of this JAMES TAYLOR show from Harrisonburg, Va from 11-14-92. The copy I own is on cdr & is a mess. The person who burnt it to cd, faded out after every song, and the ones he missed are TAO. Its a real shame, because the sound quality is amazing (its either a soundboard, fm or web broadcast). I'd love to find a smooth copy either on cdr or dat with no fades, edits or spaces. I have over 2,300 entries on my list to trade. Please contact me if you can help. Thank for help. Alf ------------------------------ From: "Matt" Subject: Preamp advise Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 09:45:45 -0700 Hi everyone. I'm in the process of upgrading my rig and I'm looking for some advise. I've currently got a M1 and a set of Sound Professionals AT 933 (Premium Slimline Cardioids) stealth mics and a battery box. That setup does pretty well, but I wanted a set of full bodied mics too. I've got a fairly limited budget for this, so I just bought a pair of Oktava MC012's. I hope that was a good move (if not it's too late now). The price was fairly low and I've heard they are a good value. I've heard some nice recordings from those, so I'm not too worries about the investment. Now I will need a preamp and phantom power. I like the idea of a a/d preamp combo, and I like being able to record to a computer even more (for future projects). Like I said, I don't have a whole lot of cash to put into this so I wouldn't be surprised if this can't happen. The Eidorol UA-5 sounds like a good deal, but it does not offer s/pdif output without modification (which Oade will do), but it sounds like that will disable the USB output and I'd like to save that for later when I'll hopefully be using a laptop instead of my M1. So my next question is what else is good for what I want? If it's inexpensive enough I could forgo the USB functionality for now. The Denecke AD-20 looks interesting, but it doesn't provide the phantom power I'd need. I also get the impression that it may not be as good as I once heard it was. That UA-5 does have phantom power, and for under $400 it may be the thing to get. Am I overlooking something nice and inexpensive? Is the a/d in the M1 good enough to (very subjective question) make a purely analog preamp the best value? Are there going to be a bunch of nice digital preamps flooding the used market because everyone will be getting MiniMe's? I'm all ears. Thanks in advance. Matt ------------------------------ From: David Cox Subject: RE: OT: Any Streambox VCR experts? Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 08:55:19 -0800 (PST) The old way to use Streambox ripper was to download the .RAM file to your desktop. (which you've done). then open the file in notepad. inside is essentially an internet playlist of URLs pointing to .RM files. RealPlayer will play each link in order kinda like a playlist in winamp. it was then possible to build a dummy web page which would allow you to do a HTTP Get (save target as) of the .RM file. Then you could convert the file with streambox. unfortunately, in the case of the .RAM file you pointed to, they are using a CGI server which doesn't actually tell you the location of the .RM file. if you save the target of the .RAM file, you get an .SMIL file (Realmedia streaming format file)(http://www.kcrw.com/cgi-bin/smil_wrap.cgi?/mb/mb020117Psyco_On_Da_Bus) that points to this file: rtsp://go.rbn.com/livecon/kcrw/g2demand//mb/mb020117Psyco_On_Da_Bus.rm rbn.com is real broadcast networks. (kcrw is paying them for streaming hosting). since the file is not hosted on a standard web server (http://), internet explorer cannot download this file. however, you might be able to put this link into streambox do download it (i doubt it). quicktime, real, liquid, and windows media have all been working on sneaky ways to make content stream to your computer but not stay there. rtsp:// is the format that real (and quicktime?) are using for this (real-time-streaming-protocol). in short, i don't think you can do it with this one... hope this helps... this is certainly WAY off topic now!. dave. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> >From: O Nelson >Subject: OT: Any Streambox VCR experts? >Date: Sun, 10 Feb 2002 22:13:00 -0600 > >I've been experimenting with using this program to downlaod >RealAudio files (rather than streaming them, so indepent of >traffic and server speeds) of archived radio shows. What is the best method to splice the >tape together? I tried scotch tape and got it together nicely, but my decks >show errors when I try to play the tape. none of the decks can recognize >any data on the tape. Did I ruin the tape? You can search the DAT-heads archives for something like 'DAT splicing' and it will turn up a number of posts on the subject. I did this just yesterday, actually using google rather than the DAT-heads archive search engine and got several good posts. And the reason why I did this yesterday? I just spliced a DAT myself yesterday. One side was still hanging outside, but the other reel had gone inside, so I had open up the case and get it out, which was a little tricky. Then (making sure I had the correct sides) I just used regular ole scotch tape on the inside (toward the reels, away from the head) and taped it together and trimmed off the excess tape. I lost about 30-60 sec of material from around the splice, both from the splice itself and the crinkle from the original break, but I was pleasantly surprised that it played error free on either side. Luckily I had previously dumped the first half of the show to a standalone CDR and had just enough overlap that I should be able to recreate it seemlessly in Cool Edit Pro. Show in question is Glen Phillips 2/5/02 Largo with special guests Sean and Sara Watkins from Nickel Creek both as the opening act and sitting in. Core HEB (DPA4061)>D100 from about 10 feet center.
