Subject: nBc, taping gear for sale...
Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2002 22:48:18 -0500
hey all, sorry for the massive cross-post but i'd figure i'd get the word
out there...
Due to monetary reasons I've got the following gear up for sale.
If you'd like more info, photos, ect of anything feel free to email me about
it and i'd be happy to get back from you.
As it is now I'm selling the pieces individually, but if you're interested
in more than one thing let me know, we could probably work something out
deal wise.
And while it would probably be easier to just post the shit to ebay or
something i really dont' feel like paying them for doing me a favor.
So you can look at it as being cheap or being thrifty.
Items for sale:
(following bought from sonic sense 2/00)
-1 pair of AKG 480 mic bodies with 2 ck-61 cardioid capsules*
-1 pair of dpa windscreens for the 480s (i forget the number off the top of
my head, but they're the large ones, not the shitty ones that come with
them)
- 1 pair of AT 8410 shockmounts
-1 shure at27m vertical t-bar
-1 Graham-Patten SoundPals DMIC-20 (44.1kHz version. I'll include the
bnc -> rca/coax adapeter and a t to split it if you ever get the need)
-1 pair of 25' mic cables
Also:
-1 Sony PCM-R300
397 hours, has manual, remote, extended warranty. bought new from terrapin
tapes 5/00, sent to sony service in 6/00, had new transports, heads, and
other work done after it started eating tapes. used soley for conversions.
* Note on the 480's. They are used. I bought them used from Nutter. If I
remember correctly they had been used by a band during their shows to get
crowd noise, and I believe the band was SCI. There is noticible wear on
them mic bodies and capsules on the exterior, but rest asured they still
work and sound great.
Also willing to toss in a nice metal breif case that all the shit fits in to
whoever gets the most stuff if they want it, but since I no longer have the
gear I don't need it I might as well get rid of it.
As for prices its pretty much best offer gets it, unless I don't think what
has been offered I don't find is reasonable, but I don't see it happening.
Thats about it, any questions email me: fetus@vt.edu
Thanks for the bandwith.

hey all,
i need to sell my laptop rig and i'm looking to find it a good home...
these lists are prolly the best place to find that! the reason for my
sale... one word... recession! that said, here's the vitals:
Sony Vaio PCG-C1VP Picturebook (serial no. 28325030-3102632)
Sony PCGA-CD51/A external CD Rom (serial no. 28481130-3301162)
Sony Quad-Capacity Battery (serial no. 152899621-1010850)
Digigram VXpocket V2 (serial no. 10300007120)
the laptop runs Win 2K Pro and has been optimized for laptop recording. in
addition, i've put in a 30GB HHD (the stock is a 15GB which i will include
with the laptop). it's loaded with Sound Forge 5.0 & Sonic Foundry's Batch
Converter 5.0 along with the standard recording freeware (CDWAV, mkw Audio
Compression, etc...) i'll include all the discs for the pre-loaded
software. for the specs on the laptop, follow this link...
http://www.sonystyle.com/vaio/picturebook/specs.shtml#200
it's about 8 months old and well cared for. the rig set me back about $3200
(give or take) and i'm looking to get $2,300. oh yeah, did i happen to
mention it has warren haynes' signature. i guess you can call it the warren
haynes model ;^) drop me a line if interested.
peace...

yeah I think that is the best route.... I can use "their" mic then. that is
crucial, since I just bought one mic!!

how big does the distance have to be before the delay hits?
hmmmm so you say a mic on stage FACING OUT would be better than a condenser
mic at the back by the SBD?
I made a tape

I only have a 20 foot cable, so that would be how I would have to do it, to
get a mic on stage facing out.

I installed XP yesterday, after formatted the system, and happened same
thing with my Audiophile 2496
Win XP alert me that the driver (which I downloaded from Midiman site,
specifically for XP) doesn't is recognized from Win as doesn't have the XP

hey there, at the past few shows i've taped i've been lucky
enough to get boards - using the 1/8" mini analog input. as soon
as i plug my <non-active> digi cable in, i get the dreaded 'no
input'. i have an oade passive cable and i just got a pro
digital cable <way nicer IMO> but they both do it. do i
positively need an active cable to be able to recieve an analog
input and give a digi patch? or is there a way to modify my
existing cables to switch between analog and digital inputs??
for 90% of the stuff i tape i'm still digi-patching but i'm
planning on getting a set of mics here real soon and i don't
want to have to give an analog patch out with a splitter. any
suggestions?? thanks, Nick

I already posted these items once, so I apologize for
the re-wasted BW. I'm posting once more before they go
to Ebay.
1) One pair of Core Sound Binaural Microphones, with
removable clips & a non-switchable battery box (no
bass roll-off). Lists for $245/pair – I’d like to get
$140.
http://www.core-sound.com/mics.html
2) One pair of Sennheiser MD441 dynamic microphones.
As dynamic mics they do not use phantom power. One in
original box, one not.
List @ $895 each – I’d like $700.
I'll also include two optional foam screens ($70 value
form Sennheiser) & a pair of approx 15 ft mic cables
(these cables only seem to work for dynamic mics, they
don't seem to work for condenser mics).

Howdy y'all...
I was wondering what the consensus on MG mics was - I've heard decent
recordings off the M300 series in the past, good solid tapes, and now it
look like you can get a pair online for roughly $750. I'd also be
interested in hearing some feedback on the large-diaphragm UM92.1s? Is
this the same capsule as a Neumann U87? What's the price?
Thanks!

Hi,
I wondered if anyone could help, I have a number of DAT tapes which
originated on CD. I'd like to be able to listen to the music in my car but
only have a CD player. I'm wondering if it would be possible to
re-construct the CD's via SPDIF from the DAT tapes? I hoped that as it was
a copy from CD, the track information would still be intact on the tape so
that there would be a way to create a CD without manually editing into
tracks. Anyone have ideas about some software that would be able to
interpret the data stream? I'm using a Sony DTC690 with a Soundblaster
Live! card.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated,

I hate these things. They create a harsh high end and while their use
is at best questionable live, they have no place in a recording, let
alone one that is supposed to document a live event. Please don't use
one. If you need that effect, you can use it later. Every time
someone has put it on a recording, it seems they come to regret it
later.

The -M1 pre-amp is okay. Try it and see if it's good enough for your
ears.
If not, the AD-20 or Duo are good choices.
The Denecke/Zefiro AD-20/InBox is a wonderful sounding unit and is very
compact and portable, but is limited to 20-bit/44.1 (or 48) KHz, and as
you say, it doesn't provide phantom power.
The Midiman/M-Audio Duo has two great sounding mics pre-amps, phantom
power, dual 24-bit/96 KHz A-to-D converters, headphone monitoring, a
coax S/PDIF output and a USB interface. At its price (under $300), it
can't be beat. (You'll find details on our Web page.) And we'll be
offering a portable power supply for it shortly.
I hope this helped!

Hello everybody,
I have a pair of Microtech Gefell M210 microphones. I am currently
using them with Stewart BPS-1 power supplies > Denecke AD-20 > D8, but I
want to cut the AD-20 out of the equation and go line-in with the Stewarts.
Is it possible to do this without the use of transformers? I understand
that the Stewarts have special properties that allow the Gefells to
unbalance, but do I still need transformers to make this work? Will it
sound better if I use transformers with the Stewarts? And if I do need
transformers, where in the signal chain do they go? Any assistance on this
issue is much appreciated. Thanks!
