I recently purchased a pair of Oktava MC-012 matched pair. I've got the
shure a27m vertical mic mount. I've been recording with my stealth- AT853
mics. This is an upgrade and I'm trying to figure out how to set them up.
You may be familiar with all the great info at Oade Brothers site. They have
some good info on stereo mic tech. But I dont understand their description.
If someone could clarify, I'd appreciate it.
Here's their rap..
This is the most common form of stereo recording, the 90 degree X-Y
configuration. Here careful attention should be paid to the vertical
alignment of the diaphram inside the capsule. The smaller the error the
better the focus and depth of the recording. The horizontal displacement is
not critical and can be adjusted to accommodate larger microphones or the
use of windscreens. This works well with both cardioid and hypercardiod
microphones. This is our recommended starting point for all new recording
engineers. We find that all large diaphram microphones must be set up in
this manner to assure satisfing results.
My question;
I have these HUGE "Ultra windscreens". I dont understand the concepts of
"vertical alignment of the diaphram inside the capsule", or "horizontal
displacement". Using the wind screens, I wont be able to get the caps right
over each other, But I dont understand these alignment considerations in
figuring out how to set up my mics with the "blimp-screens".
Here's the link to this Oade page if interested.

Whoa... while I gather you are just seeking
to get the music preserved, this message
is ultimately promoting someone profiting
from music they didn't make. DAT-heads is
consensus driven and it is pretty clear from
recent discussion that people do not want the
list used for that purpose, whether direct or
indirect.

Since I've been doing the CDR thing I haven't really cloned any DAT's in
quite a while. I need the money more than I need a second DAT deck, so
I'm selling off one of my DA-20mkII's.
I bought it in '98, have kept the usage fairly low, and have been good
about keeping the heads cleaned. I've got the original box, manual,
receipt, etc. I'd like to get $350 for it, but I'll entertain any
serious offer.
Drop me a line if you're interested.

I have two Seagate CTD-8000 DDS drives with the audio firmware for sale. I need to sell these because I recently lost my job and need to generate some revenue. The drives work beautifully. One is internal 5 1/4 and the other is in an external case (no cable included). I can include the 5 1/4 mounting hardware for the external drive. I also have a SCSI card that I can toss in to the deal for whoever offers the most. Best offers near or above the magic number I have in my head will get the drives. Preference goes to someone who wants both. Please indicate which drive you want (internal/external).

"The 2.2 GB removable cartridge cost less than US$30 and offers more than 2 hours of 24 bit

I'm sure it will be a fine machine, but why is it they seem afraid to give the consumer
more than 2 hours at the best possible fs/bit rate? Same problem DAT had, there was
something preventing the introduction of a 90m capable DAT deck and tape, not sure what it
was though. If I had my say, with all the cool technology out right now, I'd pass on the 2
GB ORB? discs and 1) stick a 40 gb or so hard drive in it and IEEE 1394 Firewire coming out
the side or 2) stick a DVD-RW writer in it.

I know where to buy them new, but I would rather get them used if

looking for a pair of decent 15' to 25' mic cables (nothing made of
some strange super conductive metal that fell from the sky, just a

Could anyone please give some advice on how to set up a pair of MBHO 603/200 the best possible way to record two guys playing blues semi acoustic with electric guitar and acoustic bassguitar?
Ortf, x/y or what.
Which way should the amplifiers be pointed, straight at you or diffuse?
Range to the amps etc, etc.
Happy for your opinions,

i wouldn't call them a waste of $, but i definitely agree with Edwin.
(although i don't hate BBE, i actually kind of like it.) it's just very out
of place in this situation. if you have a crappy, dull sounding PA or a
similar sounding old cassette tape, BBE can work wonders. in typical digital
recording, tho, it really will just make the high end sound harsh. i've
learned that the hard way over the years. BBE should be used as a corrective
device, not as a magic black box enhancer to be applied anywhere and
everywhere...
take care, and hope your recording goes well.
