Are you running in secure mode?
It sounds like you have the 9x OS running this way, but the others are
set for burst mode.
Verify that all parameters are correctly set up. It would make sense
that XP or 2k will work faster. Win9x is not multiple processor
friendly, as you know, so that is self explanatory. IDE drives, like
your CD, get their juice from the CPU's directly so I could see the dual
CPU action being quite fast.
60-70x extraction....I seriously doubt it (accurately) Do they even make
CD-Roms that can read that fast? Steadily? I think I've seen 100x, but
CD-Roms real sustained speed is no faster than 12-24x.
CD-Rom drives are not unlimited is speed. There would reach a point
where the drive itself is at it's maximum.

Is anyone using any of the new Flash-Memory recorders? Marantz has one, I
would guess a few others.
http://www.superscope-marantzpro.com/Marantz/PMD680/pmd690.html
They may take the IBM (toshiba?) 1 GB Flash drives, which should cover at
least a full set in stereo at 44.1K-16Bit.
If they have two slots, probably an entire show.
Seems to have spdif out, but not input.
These seem to marketed actively where the DAT deck once was advertised.
Is this our future?

Finally, somebody comes to this little old town that I really want to
see... And, just after the arrival of my "new" stealthing rig. Only a D3
with some Core CSBs, but hey, I'm kind of new to all this... So, I'm
going to go get me that black hat for the mics, and I'm going to stick the
D3 in my pants, but what else is there to look out for? Seats are 17th
row, dead center, on the aisle and next seat in (I have a date/accomplice).
Is Natalie Merchant big-time anti taper? Should I expect goons to be
searching for me? Do folks try and get in the door with the mics in hat
already, or is there a bathroom ritual to set up?
These and many other questions, from a long-time taper, first time
stealther... Advice appreciated.

Sounds like you might be thinking about EAC. Shorten is entirely
different and has nothing to do with extraction from CD.

Purchased from Ken Hays at Terrapin, used for less than 50 total hours,
still with all rack mount gear, manuals, and remote. A great machine,
realized I never use it, might as well pass it on for cheaper than a new

Make me an offer.

March 28th Portland, OR - B Complex
March 29th Seattle, WA - Graceland
I'm only interested in the VENT(who consists of siblings of Incubs) and

If anybody can help me out I'd love to hear what I missed.

BWT: .shn CDR of the 11-18-01 Hank III show for the first 3 to email. CSB>M1
source. Yes, I know what most people think of CSB-sourced tapes, but to my
ears this sounds better than either of the 2 Neumann-sourced H3 shows I
have. Am I saying Core Sound mics are better than Neumann? Of course not!!!
(nothing personal, Len) It just goes to show that there are factors to
consider other than mic brands.

Does anyone have the same issue: my drive won't encode the first track
on TDK media that I burned with my HHB 800. It reads all the tracks, but
I can't import fully. I have an iMac CPU 1740; the drive is a Matshita
CD-RW 7121. Weird problem. All other media that I burned in the HHB work
fine, and the drive fully reads TDKs that it burns. If anyone has
insight, please let me know.
