From: Eric Eckberg <shmurg@yahoo.com> Subject: 250+ analog cassetts are up for trade here... Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 15:59:48 -0800 (PST) Well I cleaned out my closet and found a bunch of Black Crowes, Grateful Dead, Stones, U2, Led Zep, Doors, and a bunch more artists. All the tapes were collected by me in the past couple of years. 90% are on either Maxell XII's or IIS's. There are some real gems here. I am sorry, but My list is an approximate of what is in the bunch. There might be a couple missing, but there are many more than are listed. It would be the easiest for someone near Chicago to take them. They are heavy and would cost some to ship. If you want them though, I will ship. You pay shipping though. No Money changing hands, so don't ask. I would trade for a new or used IBM 7200 speed 30+gig ide hard drive or higher(in working order!), a new or used 16-24X cd writer ide(in working order!), a new or used DVD drive(in working order!), or 30 new Sony 90m DDS tapes from Terrapin Tapes. It would be great for someone who is just starting to trade. Give me a mail if you want the sample list! Eric __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! From: Delano <eagle-winged-palace@home.com> Subject: Compressor settings-> SF 4.5 Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 19:13:49 -0500 I have both CoolEdit 200 and SF 4.5, but prefer 4.5 for most functions. I recently taped George Winston and he rarely uses a PA (except for guitar and harmonica songs). I used SF 4.5's 'normalize' feature to first reduce all of the crowd noise areas (to that of the music). Then I boosted all the spoken material to that of the music, then I boosted the levels of the entire show with the same function. I used the 'Smooth" function to blend the edges where the adjustments are made. Most changes are undetectable except around the areas of spoken material (which was recorded at such a low volume that there is considerable background noise when boosted and this is noticeable - at least you can understand what he is saying). In no case was the actual music altered (other than boosting the levels). Take Care, Delano http://www.geocities.com/digitaldelano/
From: Mark Mayhle <mark@mayhle.com> Subject: FS: SGI DAT drive with audio firmware $129 Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 18:56:20 -0600 (CST) This is an original SGI external DAT drive, which came from the manufacturer with audio firmware installed. It's a Conner/Seagate CTD-8000E-S drive, data capacity 4GB uncompressed, 8GB compressed on a 120M tape, as well as handling 60M and 90M audio format tapes. External SCSI case has 2 Centronics SCSI-I connectors, SCSI ID selector and power switch. The drive is used and there are a couple small cracks in the case which are cosmetically minimal and do not affect functionality. Guaranteed not to be DOA. This reads audio DATs at a little more than 2X speed and provides a very inexpensive and convenient way to get DAT audio into your computer with no wear on your decks. You'll need a SCSI card, cable, standard power cord, terminator (or you can pop the case and set the termination jumper on the drive if it's the only thing on the chain) and software such as DAT2WAV, VDAT, etc. The drive can also be removed from the case and mounted internally if you get rails and 5-1/4" faceplate from Seagate. Price $129 plus shipping of your choice. BWT: First 2 to respond, Down from the Mountain, Paramount Theater, Seattle, 2/14/02, 20th row center section, AT933 cards >D100 >DAT2WAV/Seagate drive >Plextor CD-R, .SHN and .CUE files for 2 CDs on one disc, or 2 audio discs. Specify your preference and send your address. -- Mark Mayhle mark@mayhle.com

From: "Mark Baldwin" <coldrainandsnow@hotmail.com> Subject: Cd Recorder w/ Hard Drive Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 20:06:30 -0500 I havent seen the yamaha unit, but I have seen an Alesis studio cd recorder that has a 3.2 gb hard drive and mastering capabilities. It has many i/o's(xlr, spdif, analog etc). musicians friend has it for about a grand. It can record 24 bit/ 96 khz as well. You can even record to certain cd's in 24 bit. I'm hoping that the price drop's a little bit and then i might snag one. This would make transfers ot cd quite easy w/o using any software. Seems like a sweet way to go. Mark From: bigjazzfan@hdni.cc Subject: Question / Yamaha has audio cd recorder & Hard Drive in one box Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 11:12:46 -0700 Hi, I just noticed Yamaha has a CD recorder with a Hard Drive. You can edit like a minidisc but no loss of quality. 16bit CD quality. And no computer needed. Analog and Digital In/Out. Is anyone here using this unit. Sounds pretty cool. Recorded from center table, at the stage. I would like to trade this for some Earth Wind and Fire, or high quality aud or sbd of pre 1980 Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin. I could use some more late 80s Tom Waits also. have a nice weekend. Adios Bob __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! From: "Michael Ryan" <beerman@gte.net> Subject: re: Virus... Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2002 13:31:05 -0800 I would like to say thank you to those who wrote and informed me that this is not a new virus , and included links to clean it up . I actually never got the thing as I do not open attachments unless it passes two scans ( just for luck ) , but I did find it unusual to get it from several different parts of the world at about the same time. ALSO, folks please read B+p offers close. I took everybody who did write within 24 hours, but I originally asked for ONE PERSON from EACH TIME ZONE!!! I only got two who did this the way I asked. But like I say, all who got inside the 24 hour mark will be honored.. Thanks again everybody.. Peace, Michael PS to those who made the cut, please use this address to check in < luv2brew@yahoo.com > Thanks
