Anybody know where it went? and 2) I don't know what general opinion of his work is. I've gotten some nice CDs from him in the past, and he seems most meticulous, but there may be valid reasons I am unaware of to look elsewhere for mastering. If there are, I'd like to hear those reasons. FWIW, he mastered a 1991 WSP show I recorded from cassette to CDR with great results. I was talking with my Mom this weekend and we got to talking about Jerry band and she mentioned the first time she saw JGB was in mid-seventies at the Del Mar Theater in Santa Cruz. All are HQ, sources can be found at my site: http://www.geocities.com/brentblack99/Tapelist.htm Phish 6/14/95 5/27/94 10/31/96 7/12/96 2/16/97 8/9/98 Erik ------------------------------ From: "Slipkid" Subject: bad trader very wierd situation - looking for advice - LONG POST Reply-To: "Slipkid" Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2002 23:17:56 -0500 fellow DATHEADS: i just got an strange email today relating to a bad trader warning that has been on my website since 1998 and the email has me in a bit of a quandry...i don't know how to handle this situation, and am still mulling it over....i would very much welcome opinions from anyone in the DATHEADS community as to what they would do about this if they were in my place, so that i can then digest those opinions b4 i decide what my course of action will be i apologize if this post is considered too off topic for DATHEADS, but after some pondering i thought that as a long time reader/contributor to this forum that if this had happened to someone else here i would be interested in hearing about it, so i figure some of you might be interested as well, and that there could be alot of opinions/discussion about this i've never posted here about encounters with "bad" traders, but i do have a section of my website devoted to those encounters, in the hopes of warning people that trade with me against similar problems thankfully my own experiences with bad traders over the years have been few & far between; but the ones that i have had i have taken some comfort in by warning others about (on my webpage) btw, by "bad" i mean the type of person who seems to have no regard for keeping up their end of the bargain, not sending the tapes they owe, and not responding to various emails or letters...that being said, i acknowledge on the top of my bad trader page that there could be any number of reasons a person is unable to live up to their end of a trade, but just the same i chose to list the people i did due to my own gut feelings on them if you go to my webpage at http://www.webserves.com/slipkid/badtraders.html you can read for yourself the warning to which the letter below addresses....read the warning about the guy 4th down from the top that i shall call "M.K." from Middlesborough, England to see what the fuss is about unbelievably, in my email today, i get an email from someone complaining about my bad trader page, in that he has the SAME name as "M.K.", and lives in the same town, and that 3 people have discovered the "bad trader" info about him during an internet search on his name, and he considers his good name has been wronged by my bad trader entry!! he then both asks me to remove the bad trader entry, and then threatens me in some wierd way regarding internet "law" according to him my reaction to his email is primarily astonishment how anyone could have HIS reaction! if you do a search on your name you will find hundreds of wierd things, none of which may be relating to YOU, and some of which may OFFEND you...but this is a big wierd world, and a big wierd internet...IMO you should just shrug off the ones that you don't like etc....i don't see how this "damages" his reputation (since he doesn't even trade how could it even "hurt" him?)...god forbid the innocent person whose name matches someone on the FBI most wanted list or something...that type of thing happens...why worry about a "bad trader" warning? doesn't make any sense to me, but i am being myopic about it (i am not in M.K.'s shoes, and i do not care what wierdness is uncovered about my own name) i am thinking of offering to him to modify my entry such that i include the "bad" M.K.'s entire mailing address, or a disclaimer that it is not this "other" M.K....of course, for all i know, the msg below is a fake, sent by the "bad" M.K. in some kind of twisted way, or it could even be a wierd joke from someone else...for the sake of argument i will assume the person below is sincere, and in some misguided way (to my thinking) is truly offended by the use of the same name as him in a warning and thus deserves some kind of response what would you do under these circumstances? what real "laws" apply in this case? does what he mention about this "publication" in the UK being against the law actually apply to this in any way (i am based in the U.S. btw) THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE....see below for the email here's the email i just got (i abbreviated any reference to the actual person's name): ********************************** Hello there, Firstly I apologise for the intrusion, over the past week a few friends have pointed out my "name" on a google search engine. After the third such comment (strange how things come in three's), I decided to go and have a look for myself. I discovered you have a "bad traders" page, not knowing what this was initially, and after reading it I surmise you have been ripped off over some recordings, as much as I feel sorry that you now have such an opinion of "traders" I am afraid I have to take exception to my name being used on a world wide forum in such a way. I have never "traded" from you or from anyone else for that matter, and until this evening was unaware of the existence of yourself or your page or the fact that my "name" has been used in such a way. But my name is M.K. , and I do live in Middlesbrough. though a cursory check of my telephone book before writing this shows 23 M Ks. (I myself am ex-directory, I believe this is also known as "unlisted" in some parts). If three people can point this out to me, here in the north east of england, I shudder to think that my name could be dragged around in such a way. I should point out that "K." is not far off the Irish equivalent of Smith or Jones, and Middlesbrough has a substantial number of residents of Irish descent, myself included. I feel it necessary to ask you to remove my name, though I understand this will not remove my name from the likes of a google search as the initial page I found was approximately three years old, though I shall be contacting the webmaster immediately after writing this. I should also point out that this kind of publication is illegal within the UK and due to a UK law change I can insist my ISP use all "reasonable means" to remove the offending items. (Under UK Law my ISP is liable for the content transmission to my home). My ISP is an American owned company (NTL), and unless I hear that my name has been removed I shall be contacting them forthwith, and also your own ISP. I apologise for this message, but I have a good name and will do my utmost to protect it, even though in a case like this where you have clearly been wronged it seems we are both victims. Though I think it is clear from reading what you wrote that you have not even considered the fact that whoever you dealt with may have used a false name, and presumably as postal services were used, a convenient (but not necessarily their own, address) perhaps even of someone they knew for malicious purposes. The publication of names such as this, whilst you may have felt you have no choice is a drastic invasion upon the innocent. There seems to be literrally thousands of M.K.s in the world, (I was suprised to see "my" name so many times from so many places in the google search that I did), but I think you should consider your position again. I want to know what people feel is minimum hardware for 16-bit / 44.1 khz recording, as well as the best "budget" card for getting XLRs or other analog sources (i.e., 1/4" or 1/8" stereo) into the box. I know the VX Pocket is a great device, but I'd rather not spend a grand, and I know that the VAIOs and the Picturebook are standards too, but I'm thinking more along the lines of buying a used P400 Toshiba with a big enough drive and enough RAM, and then sticking a card ( < $500 if possible) in it and building a power supply on my own.
