What I need > is something easy to use, which is suited to 2 track editing as oposed > to multitrack editing. Well, BIAS Peak or Peak LE (popular 2-track editors) would do the job, but I personally prefer to edit in Pro Tools, as it is mostly non- destructive and faster (less disk activity), and I like the pencil tool for fixing pops and clipping, which I'm not sure that Peak has (my older version doesn't, but 2.5 might). If you can handle a bit of a learning curve (and it's not really that bad), the free version of Pro Tools should meet your needs very nicely. It also includes some basic EQ, I think, but it also opens you options to a variety of plug-ins (Waves' stuff is especially good). BTW, I have the same audio card, and you have to be wary of one thing with it: When transferring digitally, sometimes it locks onto the signal with the tracks reversed. The solution is to start the tape and, once the actual data stream has begin, toggle the software's input between digital and analog and back to digital once or twice. Weird, but it's worked for me every time. Otherwise, you have to just listen for the channels being swapped and swap them in the software (with a 1- sample shift). (Email me that is unclear.) I've had good luck with a freeware program called Coaster for doing the actual transfers -- better than with Peak. But newer versions or Peak and PT may work better; just be sure to check your first few transfers carefully. -- Michael ------------------------------ From: kadie renner Subject: Brand New Oade 7-pin on ebay... I have the following items for sale: One Lunatec V2 microphone pre-amplifier Serial Number V051 Dark Blue faceplate I purchased this unit (new) in September 1998. The V2 runs great and is in very good cosmetic condition. There are some small scratches on the faceplate and on the rear of the unit, next to the cable inserts. However, I always ran the V2 in my Portabrace, so the nicks on the unit are pretty minimal for a three-year-old unit. The V2 has never gotten wet or been dropped. It has not been used since December 2001. I have all the original paperwork and the original packaging materials. I would like $725.00 or best offer. I also have a portable battery system for this unit. The battery system includes: One Oade Bros (BP7) 7.2 amp hour battery with nylon case. One Oade Bros (BCI-2) Intelligent Charger 600 ma. One mini-xlr > 4-pin xlr cable to connect the V2 to the battery. (This system powers the V2 for at least 8 hours.) The battery system was purchased at approx the same time as the V2. I do not have any paperwork (or the original packaging materials) for the battery system. All three components of the battery system work great, but there is some wear on both the battery and the charger. If you want both the Lunatec and the battery system I am asking $775.00. Buyer to pay all shipping & insurance costs. I had problems with shorten checksums and the long names. Rather inconsistent, really. OR - Mac OS X reads and writes all filenames. While I'm on the subject, I have been unable to run shorten for OS X with valid results. i.e. a disk that verifies under OS 9 shorten will not verify under OS X shorten. But that's a different question... -jas > From: randy@monkeybiz.Stanford.EDU > Subject: hybrid cd question > > As an aside, the PC-data portion of the discs I've written are > perfectly readable on the Mac systems I've experimented with, > but because the Mac only sees the ISO filenames (uppercase, 8+3) > instead of the Joliet filenames (mixed case, up to 255 chars), > any html files put in the data section are more or less useless > (as all the links get messed up, since they're case-sensitive). ------------------------------ From: Robert Kane Subject: DPA 4023 mics (best place to buy) Reply-To: roekbarnet@ameritech.net Date: Sun, 03 Mar 2002 23:41:12 -0500 After listening to a bunch of different mics I have decided which mics I would like to buy to upgrade my rig. There are several different audience sources around, one of which sounds extremely good and is often mislabled as SBD. Supposedly there is an actual SBD source of this floating around but I have yet to hear it, hence the reason for the search. If anyone out there has it, drop me a line offlist and we can trade for it. Dat preferred, but CD is great too. Tons of stuff to offer in trade. Thanks! Date: Mon, 04 Mar 2002 01:55:54 -0700 Hi, I was hoping someone here could give me their opinions on what cd recorder has the best A/D converter these days. I am transferring LP's and tapes to CD and want the best A/D converter that is built in to a CD recorder. And I've learned just because it might be 24bit doesn't mean it's better that one that isn't. So has anyone tested some of the current units A/D converters. Either Pro or Consumer machines. I offered my collection for sale, and he said that GD tapes are good sellers since there is such an avid following, and if he wasn't selling his business, he'd be interested in them He suggested used record stores might buy them. I am careful to price them so that it is clear I'm selling media, not music. Of course, there is always the parking lot scene at jamband shows... michael ======================================================== Otto, Michael wrote: >I am liquidating my DAT collection and dat decks.
