Short answer - Just about as anti-taping as Bob Dylan.
They came thru town a little while ago and I had previously arranged to
record the opener. When I found the JSBX tour manager and offered to spin
the show for them, she just came un-glued! It took some character reference
from the venue, and the assurance that I would remove my equipment from the
house prior to the start of the JSBX set to settle things down.

Gee, now no tapers in his tiny fishing village will want to trade with him. In who's eyes is this person being defamed? I suggest that you post the person's name and address on you bad trader page. Then say, "this is not the person who ripped me off". "It was a different MK in England"
Just to be safe I hope you have backups of your website files. If your site gets yanked out from under you, just repost it somewhere else. I seriously doubt that that MK can do a thing to take your site down. Add the disclaimer kind of like they have in the movies. "Any resemblance to peoples living or dead is purely coincidental."
Let him call the RIAA the CIA the FBI or whoever he wants. Fact is , most groups( I know I'm generalizing) that we are interested in allow taping these days. I personally never stealth.
Send MK one final e-mail and say.
"MK, I will no longer respond for your e-mails. Please feel free to do whatever you would like. I will not take down my page based solely on one man's harassement. Good luck in your effort to have my ISP take my page down."
Also-here is a link to the "bands that allow taping" just for your info. Not quite as illegal as you seem to think.

In reference to his threat about dragging your name through the mud on trader's bulletin boards. If this wankers e-mail addy ever gets out he'll wind up with a shit load of mail. since this is kind of off-topic, i'll be brief.
the only digital cameras that you can expect to get decent show pictures
from (ie, in the dark, in a theatre, of a lighted stage) are going to
be the few (and relatively expensive) models that let you manually
set the shutter/aperature controls.
the usual 'automatic' settings of a cheaper camera aren't designed for
such lighting conditions, and they'll give you crappy pictures.
you can try 'tricking' the camera by *completely* covering the flash
(with tape, foam, whatever) and then telling it you want to take
flash pictures (to get a short shutter/open aperature), but that's
not a reliable approach in the long run.
my web site has tons of crappy pictures taken at shows with the
previously described method (anything from june 2001 or earlier);
i also have some pages (post-june-2001) with shots taken after
manually setting things.
you'll need to learn photoshop/equivalent in order to move the
raw picture data from marginal to acceptable/good.
www.funfolks.net/rads will jump you to some shots taken at radiators
concerts.

Trading on DAT or just trading in general? Many people have moved to CDR or
SHN for trading and DAT now seems to be used mostly for mastering. I can't
remember the last time I cloned one of my DATs for someone. There are so
many trading forums now, many specific to a particular band or genre, and a
lot of trading has migrated to those forums. You may want to take a look
thru yahoo groups or something similar, although there'll probably be 10 CDR
folks for every person who can clone a DAT if that matters to you.

judgement on this one. Remove the innocent guy's name and move along.

I don't respect anyone who threatens this entire

positive element of this community.

attached to location recording. So people without
any interest in technology are probably elsewhere.
I do think trading on any format is fine. And
here you are probably more likely to find
someone who taped and transferred to CDR
themselves... than someone who has a poorly
extracted clone with no recording information.
[etree.org has gone a long way to fix that
and some groups like jamgrass/... also keep
a close eye on this]

Hi All
Firsty, thank you very much to all the people who helped me out with my
editing and transfering question, espically Bob Griesel, u provided me
a great breakdown on how it all works. Well, being a Big Tool fan and a
Australian I am getting ready to Follow Tool around Australia, but only
if I can get some good gear. Last year I followed them around Europe to
15 out of their 26 or so date tour. My rig was nothing flash csb>MZR
50 . Currrently there are 8 Australia shows scheduled. After the
Australian shows there are about 10-15 European dates floating around
plus what hasnt yet been annouced. I also plan to go to these. What I
need is a DAT rig. I was thinking a resonable M1 or a TCD 100, or
something similer and as compact. I am really skint, all this
travelling has killed my pocket. So I need to beg someone to sell me a
cheap , but good, with resonable hours, DAT recorder. Although I cant
offer heaps of money, wha I can do if offer the person who sells it to
me, All of my Tool shows I currently have. I have about 5 or 6
currently uncurcualted shows( I havent been hoarding them, i left them
in Germany with a friend, he is currently sending them in the post) as
well as some vaugely curculated shows,plus I will give you first
prefernace to all the new shows I record. This means , upon request I
send you a cdr, or if possible a dat clone of a show without you havent
to send me anything( hay but if u want I wont complain ;) ). I plan to
be in Europe for 6 - 12 mounth so what I can also offer is if the person
who cuts me a good deal needs a show taped in Europe, which I wasnt
planning on going to , i will tape it for you, maybe even more than one
show, maybe a number of shows. Also, is it worth worring about a
extenral AD coverter with this rig ? Look, Tools art means more to me
than anything else, it gets inside you and its like a drug, you need
more, whatever the cost. I just want to be able to share the best
possible quality recording of that with the rest of the taping
comunity. Please, if anyone can help let me know, hay, maybe you know
someone who can get free tickets, this is a start, . Pleae, anyone who
thinks they can help, dont hessitate to email me.
