From: "Sherm Clow" <sclow@utah.gov> Subject: digital cameras Date: Fri, 08 Mar 2002 06:45:08 -0700 Adobe has a new version of Photoshop available "for the rest of us" called = Photoshop Elements. It's relatively cheap, cross-platform, and nearly as = powerful. Although Photoshop can be intimidating, Elements makes things = somewhat easier. Basic photo tweaking is easy to learn. You can use = Photoshop templates to create jewel boxes. Essential if you have a = digital camera, which is essential if you do taping. =20
From: "Peter Padjen" <thehip1@hotmail.com> Subject: ISO Tragically Hip DATs, and several other techinical questions... Date: Fri, 08 Mar 2002 09:34:57 -0500 Hey Folks Hope all is well.. I'm brand new to the digest, and have only heard good things.. I've been trading for about 5-6 years now, but only now have bought a DAT recorder from a friend (Sony PCM-1 for $400 usd with 7 pin converter box for the computer and about 55 dats with shows on them).. anyway, one of the primary reasons why I bought it was to try and salvage some old Tragically Hip shows, and possibly find some either here and else where from older tapers or traders that either aren't in the scene anymore or just don't have the time to convert the shows onto cdr... so if you have any please get back to me... On another note, I need to buy a digi-sound card and have been looking at either the Zoltrix Nightingale or the dio2448.. unfortunately I don't have too much money after spending the money on the DAT and can't afford much more than that.. some people have helped me with them already, but now I just want to finalize and get people's opinions on which I should go for and why? I know the Zoltrix is considerably less but have heard that it needs some sort of modification, can anyone with any information please get back to me privately? also I'm in Canada and would like to purchase it in Canada if possible since I've really been getting screwed with custom charges of late... thanks Peter _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
From: "Michael B. Green" <mgreen@pencom.com> Subject: Looking For Nak Cable for MX/PS-100 Date: Fri, 08 Mar 2002 10:31:51 -0500 Hi all- I know someone out there has to have an extra 4 pin cable that goes between the Nak MX-100 Mixer and the PS-100 Power Supply... I picked up the MX/PS 100 combo in a package of Nak items (through a post here a few weeks back) without the cable and although the MX-100 was modified to work via rechargeable batteries, I would still like the option of running it through the PS-100... Any help is appreciated... Cash or trade... Thanks!! Mikey

From: Dave C <dlc-dat@halibut.com> Subject: DA-302? Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 09:53:39 -0800 I'm looking at picking up a used DA-302 for cloning and for dumping to disk via S/PDIF for CDR burning. Probably won't use the analog section much except for casual playback. Any opinions one way or the other? How is it with 90m/DDS? Thanks.
From: GaoBest@aol.com Subject: Sony M1 etc Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 13:04:05 EST Hey people Just read Klay's message about the Sony PCM-M1, so now I'm a bit confused; does this mean that Sony will discontinue making the M1? Is there a substitute to use for taping shows when you want to use a DAT recorder of similar size of the M1/D100? Also, I read in the Wall Street Journal that Aiwa had closed their Japanese plants and shifted production to China, where labor cost is about 10% as in Japan (most Chinese factory workers earn about US$80 to $100 per month) and they use Japanese & European machinery & training. My concern is that Sony, who had owned about 39% of Aiwa, are moving in to buy the rest of Aiwa that they do not own; I'm worried that they may also shift production to China, and stop producing their DAT recorders in Japan. For any other product, I really couldn't care less (I bought DVDs in Shanghai for $1.25 apiece, and they work on my Marantz DVD player, which still won't play Region 2 in the US). But for DAT equipment, I really prefer to have my Sony machinery with a "Made in Japan" stamp. I can't handle it any other way... Is the Sony R500 going to still be produced, or is it better to buy it now? I don't anticipate needing one for another year or two, but now I'm afraid to wait. Any input or insight is greatly appreciated on this matter! Thanks, Mike ps: BWT: any New Order or Pink Floyd, DAT B&P only, 1 to 90 day leadtime, 3 people tops

From: "Slipkid" <slipkid@voicenet.com> Subject: hopefully my last post on the bad trader wierdness situation Reply-To: "Slipkid" <slipkid@voicenet.com> Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 13:32:14 -0500 many people have continued to be interested in this situation & have asked me to post back to the group with ongoing developments however i did get one pretty nasty email from someone who thought it was simply a bad trader feud (enitrely missing the point!) and telling me to stop wasting everyone's time with it (sorry dude, hopefully this will be the end of it) last night i created a webpage to document the ongoing developments so that interested people could read about the ongoing wierdness, and clarified my bad traders page to try to appease the guy yet still allow me to discuss "bad traders" there, but after further developments & consideration, i am now 100% agreeing with the advice of several people of this all being way too much hassle and not worth it at all i still believe that all of the grief i have been getting is from the original bad trader; however i acknowledge that i could be wrong, just as i was wrong about judging the original guy in the first place, developing a rapport with him, thinking he was a good guy, not expecting to be ripped off etc there have been additional developments which i imagine some people would be interested in hearing about, but at this point i am resisting the urge to share the details pending the final outcome of this; i just want it to end and move on...it has been an amazing amount of hassle my bad trader page no longer lists "bad traders"...i advise other people out there who do that same practice to beware that what they think is their right to warn others (which i agree with btw), can lead to all sorts of unintended avenues & hassles, and in my opinion, is not worth the aggravation yes, i am caving in in the eyes of some people, but i do not have the $$/time/resources for a protracted fight, nor do i wish to cause unintentional harm to an innocent person, whether i understand or agree with that person's point of view or not i still do not know how this story will end, but am keeping my fingers crossed that it is over i don't have time right now, but hopefully soon i will offer up some type of "bandwidth tax" to the group for taking up so much time/space on the list recently thanks, slipkid@voicenet.com

I've been asked to record a springtime festival and the opening concert will be a 40 elements symphonic orchestra. Do you have any suggestion to share with me on mics placement ? The concert will be held in a church, so the musicians will be quite close one to the other. Thanks in advance for any advice.
