Date: Wed, 13 Mar 2002 13:00:17 -0500
For Sale: Graham Patten DMIC-20 Pre-amp/ADC combo.
Purchased from Sonic Sense in July 2001, this is a great unit for the
beginning taper or someone wishing to have an all-in-one box. This unit
provides switchable 48v Phantom power, and AES/EBU>S/PDIF digital out. This
is a consumer level deck that unlike some Graham Patten units will allow
for digital patch chains including consumer level decks (D8s.) Will include
AC power cord with transformer, instructions for modification to allow for
portable power available on web.
Also for Sale: Eco-Charge Beta Plus Battery System
Two 6V Ecocharge batteries with charger provide enough power to run DMIC-20
for a really long time.
I'd like to sell the both the DMIC-20 and the Power system together. Make
me an offer. Spring tours start soon!

FS: Sound professionals CMC-6 Premium Bineural Microphones, including:
- 2 matched cardiod caps
- 2 matched hyper caps
- 1 omni cap (one lost recently by jackass friend)
- Slimline battery pack (9v with switchable bass rolloff)
- lavelier clips
To purchase new, the current price is $525 for the items listed above, not including shipping or tax. I am asking $425 f=
or the whole set. The mics are in excellent working condition and produce extremely consistent recordings. Truly excell=
ent for on stage micing with the omni caps, or up front with the cards. Stealthing is also very easy with these mics due=
to their small size. Selling only because I have a DVC-8 that powers schoeps and neumans through an active cable system=
I will include a female 1/8" mini to male RCA, which I used to interface the pre to my Sony D-8. First come, first se=
rved.

Ryan

The band Tool will be performing on 4 dates in Japan, and it would be
great if at least one of them were recorded. I'd do it myself, but
plane ticket prices are insane at this short of notice. However, I 'm
willing to pay for any taper's tickets if they're willing to attend one
or more the concerts.
They're playing in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, from April 10-13. The
offical listing is at http://www.toolband.com/tour/main.html, I'm just
not sure where to buy tickets. If anyone can do this, or knows someone
who can, PLEASE contact me.
Thanks

a bit off topic, but I know you guys can help.
I'm helping a friend with an art installation, and she needs to know how
many speakers / where to put them in the space. I don't really know this
stuff as well as I should. Here are the specs on the room:
26 x 12 x 10 (l x w x h)
the floor is carpeted, and their are doorways at either end.
She basically needs to know how many speakers she needs(2? 4? 6?)
how many watts?
and where to place them (how high?)
this probably really simple, but I want to make sure it sounds perfect for
her....
*any* input would be great

thanks for the pointers!
i noticed both the denon & marantz devices were released in 2000;
given the pace of progress, it seems like we're due for next gen soon;
hopefully they'll be more capable/dependable/oriented to music recording
(as opposed to news collection).
i like the idea of being able to pull a flash card out of the recorder
and then loading it into a reader on my computer for quick transfer
to an archival hard drive...
anyone have experience using any of the micro hard drives out there?
i see that kingston already has a 5 GB drive on a pc card
(http://www.kingston.com/pccard/default.asp);
toshiba also sells one ...
kinda pricey (at ~350); but reasonable if you think of it as a
one-time purchase for data collection/transfer...
i could see getting one to use with my VAIO...it's certainly easier
to carry around a pccard than an external 2.5" firewire drive.
anyone seen any dedicated recorders that have a type II pc card slot?
especially something supporting 24/48 or 24/96?

There's a bit of confusion about this on Marant's site.
=46or the PMD 680 (note "680" and not "690"), Marantz says
IBM Microdives should *not* be used and tapers should stick
to solid-state flash memory instead:
<http://www.superscope-marantzpro.com/Marantz/Digital/FAQPMD680.htm#can the>
But on the main PMD 690 page, it says the unit *is* designed
to work with microdrives.
Sheesh - nothing like spending $US 1500 for a lucky-dip!

Hi,
In the Mac side of my studio I'm movin' on up to a beige G3 from my old
Power Mac 7200 which means I can't use my Nubus Digidesign interface anymore
to record into SoundDesigner 2 --> then make edits in Peak. I'm looking
around for a compatible soundcard/interface for this new system and would
like to be able to record directly into Peak. I understand the program is
picky and the BIAS website doesn't list many cards which support Peak
easily.
Anyone out there have any experience with this and are able to steer me
toward the right cards and away from the wrong ones?
thanks,
Will

Subject: Lackluster trade experiences

Gang,
Many of you may have seen my recent Leo Kottke B&P offer. While
completing the offer for over 30 people, I ran into a couple annoying
situations I'd like to share, so that perhaps in the future trades can be a
little more productive and fun for us all.
The first was a request from a person in the UK. The offer was for B&P,
but when the package from them showed up, inside were three B's and no P.
They had sent a single low-quality blank CD instead of postage. Now I
wouldn't have had a problem with that if we'd worked it out in advance, but
no mention of it was made prior to me getting the package. How do you
figure that a $0.30 cd is equivalent to $2.60 in postage? I sent the show
anyway, but if you're going to do a trade with someone, play by the rules
that you both agree to in advance.
The second was waiting for me when in my mailbox when I got home from
work today. I had agreed to do a trade with this person instead of B&P.
That's fine, except that they sent the CD's wrapped in nothing but a sheet
of newspaper, and sandwiched between a flap of cardboard with a stamp on the
outside. The discs were scratched to the point that they were unlistenable.
Is this a joke? You're getting a two-disc live show that someone worked
hard to make for you (and that you'd pay $20-$30 for if you had to buy it in
the store,) and you can't have the courtesy to spend 50 cents on a padded
envelope, and maybe another 50 cents on postage to send them their discs in
a jewel case or even just a soft sleeve so that they don't get wrecked?
That's just bad trading, if you ask me. Needless to say, I'll be sending
the return discs back in the same packaging.
So anyway, sorry to gripe. But for happier trades and a more productive
environment for us all to share music in, take a little time and "do unto
others."
Ryan
p.s. - BTW, I did get lots of great trades! Thanks to everyone who sent
bonus discs, extra postage, pre-paid mailers, etc. Those types of trades
make me want to trade more!

Hi Everyone,
I am going out of town for a little over
a week and will not be actively reading
email. All of the people that looked to
be affected by the mediaone.net-> attbi
change have been contacted, and 99% of
them changed over. So I think that was
minor.
I have only heard from a couple of @home
->cox.net changes. And I do not understand
the actual process (it seems to involve more
human touch than ATT?). If you have an @home.com
email address and its changing, I suggest
the following (I know its long, but it works).
Email to:
1) Unsubscribe the home.com address
dat-heads-unsubscribe-username=home.com@datheads.phish.net
2) Subscribe it to dat-heads post (no email) so
you can still post
dat-heads-post-subscribe-username=home.com@datheads.phish.net
3) Subscribe the cox.net address
dat-heads-post-subscribe-cox_username=cox.net@datheads.phish.net
You will have to access both your mailboxes
to reply to the "please confirm your change"
messages generated.
If you have problems, please email
dat-heads-owner@datheads.phish.net. However
it will be a while until that is answered.
As always, if you posts are being rejected,
please try the instructions at
dat-heads-help@datheads.phish.net
The rejections provide an explanation if
you look hard enough and that has recipies
for most. (AOL6 users might have to use
web based email posting.)

hey...
i have been taping w/ my laptop for a while and can't get used to
the size of it... so i think i am in the market for a used D8, or M1
for that matter... the 2 most important factors to me are the price
and the hours used/wear on heads ...
i am also loking for other used stuff:
good t-bar
nice clamp
good quality 20ft XLR cables
shock mounts (most likely ones that would fit the Octava MC012 mics)
pre-amp a/d converter combo (like the MidiMan Duo)
cables for SBD feeds and patching
if you know anyone selling any of this, please e-mail me off the
list... thanks for your time,

I assume with everyones vast knowledge on taping, I might get some
useful opinions by writing this list...
I would like to spend about $300-$400 on used mics (i figure i can get
the best mics for the best price used)...
they type of music i tape is John Mayer/Dave Matthews/Howie Day/David
Gray....
some mics that have been brought to my attention are as follows:
Octava MC012: $300 new
Mirotech Gefell m300s: $560 new 5.5in x 1in
AKG 391: $420 new 5.8in x .7in
AKG 480: $540 new 5.9in x .8in
EW SR71's: $500 used
First, is anyone selling any of these? Second, what is my best value
from the above list? Am I missing any great mics in the $300-$400
range? Please e-mail me off the list and give me whatever
opinions/experience your willing to share. Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to downsize my life a little, and I need to get rid of the
following
videotapes. Most of these are from audience filmers, so beware of the
quality,
although I wouldn't say any of them suck. Bottom line is that I just don't
have
the time to watch any of them.
I would like to unload them all to one person, if possible. (First come,
first served).
I would like to trade the tapes for either 1 video for 1 DAT, or 1 video for
2 CDRs.
I'd prefer to get some more shows (I'm interested in just about anything but
rap or
country music). Let me know what you have for trade.
