Hi Bob,
Seems there is a problem with me replying to AOL accounts...Don't know
why but had it with Dave on YAHOO ( BOB DYLLAN strawjak@yahoo.com ).
Anyway..Don't panic as the SBM-1 is on the way( has been posted, Greg
and Geoff to be posted in the next day or so)
Please post here if you read this and when it arrives( I don't want to
have the good people on this list think I am in any way ripping you
off)...just a little curtesy that's all.
BTW-I have sent you 2 e-mail dated 5th March and 8th March....which
haven't gone thru but also didn't bounce back to me.
I'll try again on your private mail.

I just took my first real crack at taping at my own show last Friday. I
flew my Audio Technica 822 stereo condenser mic at about 9 ft at an indoor
venue and then turned the deck over to a friend while I went on stage to
start the set.
I told him to try all sorts of stuff after each song to help me figure out
the best setup and settings for the deck (A sony pcm-m1 with said at822
condenser mic)
The one huge difference that was noted was that the tape sounded like crap
until he lowered the mic down to about 7' in height. After looking at the
layout of the speakers in the club it made sense as that was where the
overhead monitors were pointing.
Now my question it this... will the same type of thing hold true in an
outdoor setting? Does the crowd noise effect have a minimum height
requirement for me to get a good taping?
Thanks.

My Audiowerks II card seems to be a good match-- I
import into Waveburner, edit in Peak, then take
back to waveburner to drop in track markers and
burn DAO with Toast. It's easier than doing it
with regions (for me).

Hey,
Just want to say thanks for the help in finding Mr. Spyro. I appauligize for coming across in a way that made him out to be a bad guy. Miscommunications and e-mails not going through can be a cause for concern. All is well, and Spyro is the man.
Thanks again!

I actully could not agree more with what Ryan was expressing with his B&P
dissatisfaction. To add ONE more thing which I know FROSTS traders to NO
END - "P" stands for POSTAGE ! MEANING: a self addressed STAMPED envelope.
If there are people who are willing to take the time to burn shows properly,
please don't take anymore of their time by just sending MONEY in an
envelope. The whole point of sending a self addressed stamped envelope is
to NOT make any trips to the local post office. It should be as easy as
burning the disks, sealing the package, and dropping it in the mail.
Please be curtious to others who are willing to B&P's for you.

<<Gang,
Many of you may have seen my recent Leo Kottke B&P offer. While
completing the offer for over 30 people, I ran into a couple annoying
situations I'd like to share, so that perhaps in the future trades can be a
little more productive and fun for us all.
The first was a request from a person in the UK. The offer was for B&P,
but when the package from them showed up, inside were three B's and no P.
They had sent a single low-quality blank CD instead of postage. Now I
wouldn't have had a problem with that if we'd worked it out in advance, but
no mention of it was made prior to me getting the package. How do you
figure that a $0.30 cd is equivalent to $2.60 in postage? I sent the show
anyway, but if you're going to do a trade with someone, play by the rules
that you both agree to in advance.
The second was waiting for me when in my mailbox when I got home from
work today. I had agreed to do a trade with this person instead of B&P.
That's fine, except that they sent the CD's wrapped in nothing but a sheet
of newspaper, and sandwiched between a flap of cardboard with a stamp on the
outside. The discs were scratched to the point that they were unlistenable.
Is this a joke? You're getting a two-disc live show that someone worked
hard to make for you (and that you'd pay $20-$30 for if you had to buy it in
the store,) and you can't have the courtesy to spend 50 cents on a padded
envelope, and maybe another 50 cents on postage to send them their discs in
a jewel case or even just a soft sleeve so that they don't get wrecked?
That's just bad trading, if you ask me. Needless to say, I'll be sending
the return discs back in the same packaging.
So anyway, sorry to gripe. But for happier trades and a more productive
environment for us all to share music in, take a little time and "do unto
others."

hi,
i dont really know why, but i feel compelled to respond to ryan
haskell's post about his recent kottke trades. he complained about a set of
discs he recieved , scratched, and the way they were packaged. he recieved
thsoe discs from me( note: i wasny mentioned by name in the post). they may
indeed have been scratched, but it wasnt from the packaging. the trade had
slipped thru the cracks, and i felt bad i was late, so i pulled a set of
discs right out of my cd changer and sent him those. i never thought to look
at then , or check them in any way, because i listend to them often, and
they always played fine. i guess they may have been scratched , but i didnt
know it.
as far as the packaging, i 've sent out easily 2000 discs like that, and
havent had one come back . newspaper is as good as any other paper to
separate discs, and packed tightly in heavy cardboard, there is no way for
them to shift or scratch. i trade a lot on this list, and i'm sure many of
you have gotten discs from me in the exact same manner. one guy gave me a
good laugh, said his son got a kick out of the " ghetto packaging". i got a
set in the mail the other day, wrapped in toilet paper( un-used ). i
thought it was pretty funny, and what the hell do i care. i'll tell you one
thing, aint no trees getting cut down just to mail discs. i'll never stop
using newspaper and old cardboard. i really got a laugh out of the part he
said it was just cardboard and a stamp on the outside. it was two stamps,
and maybe next time i should put the stamps on the inside?? ps- i didnt know
the discs were fucked until i read his post, he never contacted me about
them, although i did contact him as soon as a read it.
ps- the discs in question were a set i recorded, kottke 6-9-01, huntington
NY. one of the best boots ive ever heard or made. anyone who wants a set,
along with some used cardboard and old want ads, let me know.

Stealthing is also very easy with these mics due=3D
to their small size. Selling only because I have a DVC-8 that powers schoeps

Hey there,
seeing how my auction has one day left, I thought I would send out a
reminder about it:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=851080254
These are great mics for someone looking to get into taping, or on a
budget. Because the mics don't require phantom power, you can set up a rig
as simple as feeding the mics directly into your DAT deck and using the
decks A/D. For those of you with a little more money, these mics sound
great when paired with an A/D like an SBM1.
Happy bidding.

I am selling my two year old Sek'd Prodif Plus. The reason I am selling it
is because I am moving to a Mac-based audio setup, and I need the cash to
buy a card for that setup. This is a fantastic card, and has helped me do
numerous solid dat > HD transfers. Some of you have heard them, if not I
have several samples for you to hear. The Oades use this card and other
Sek'd products. Tech support at Sek'd is fantastic as well. I wish all of my
computer/music purchases had been as smart as this one.
You can see the specs on the card here:
http://www.sekd.com/product_main/pplus_info.htm
The card is 24/96 ready. The analog playback sounds fantastic.
The Sek'd store sells the card for
$499,(http://store.yahoo.com/sekd-store/prodifpluscard.html)
but most sites have it at ~$400.
I paid $400 for it two years ago, and it hasn't come down since. I would
like to get $325 for it, but its negotiable. For $350, I will throw in a
Audio Magic Presto II S/PDIF cable. This cable costs $80 from Sonic Sense.
That sounds like a decent deal to me.

I use an RME Digi 96/8 card to input S/PDIF signals
from either my TCD-D8 DAT or SBM-1 A/D.
<http://www.rme-audio.de/english/digi96/digi968.htm>
Works well with Peak VST v2.63 (don't know how well
it works with the latest Peak v3 though).
You can either use ASIO or built-in Peak support,
although because my hard-drives aren't so fast,
ASIO results in a lot of clicking in the saved
file.
Even though I am based in Australia, I bought the
card from SFB in Holland:
