"Sending anymore than 9V or so would surely fry the FET. I'm not sure how SP
wires their mics, but I think they use the same FET board, so I would not
run anything more than 9V to the mics and I'd probably just stick with the
battery box SP provides."
=======
I've been curious about this for some time and am still somewhat unsure.
I've used the SP 853's (excluding the SP battery box) with an MP-2 providing
15v and the results weren't that great. I wasn't able get the levels up as
high as I thought I would using a quality pre-amp. I've since experimented
at home switching the pre-amp's phantom from 15v to 48v with the mics and
have gotten much better levels/sound. But my experimentation with this has
been limited to only a few minutes or so as I'm afraid I might fry the mics.
Anyone else use an MP-2 to power SP AT-853s? Thanks for the BW -Rob.

Just make a ca. 1" spacer arrangement to go between the T-bar and one of
the mic clamps, by daisy-chaining two threadsize adaptors, which you can
get at decent music instrument or (pro)photo stores:
T-bar knurled screw (male3/8") > female3/8"-male5/8" expander sleeve >
female5/8"-male3/8" reducer stud > mic clamp.
Or if you're cheap you could try politely asking one of the venue-security
gorilla's to z-bend your bar <g>. And incidentally, the NOS folks developed
their array because they thought it sounded good on its own merits, not as
a geometric work-around for ORTF 'mic-collision problems'.

If I had entered into a trade and got a couple of scratched, used discs, I'd
be annoyed too.

Hey All,
Just a quick, I think, worthy note. Just downloaded a great 4 disc
compilation from GDLives SHN collection called the Acid Test
Compilation. It's in the new miscellaneous folder on the right of
the web site. A Must Have. If you don't have a high speed connection,
I'll be glad to spin copies for those interested but not for a little
while. Heads still spinning from the past few weeks family business.
If you write and I don't get back right away just give me a little
time.

Hey, all. I have a customer who has recently moved there from Singapore. He
said that when he lived there, folks were modifying native market DVD players
to play US DVDs. Now he's got Asian market ones that won't play on his US
DVD. I think it's a Sony. Anyone know who can do such a mod? Thanks! Carl

Hi,
I'm looking for some used omni-directional stealth mics for recording. I'm
not looking for super high end. I'm new at this, so I don't want to spend
too much until I know what I'm doing (and make sure I enjoy it as much as I
think I will). I will be recording off of an MD for a while, again, until I
know what I'm doing and am ready to upgrade to better equipment. If anyone's
selling, please let me know off-line. Thanks.
