Subject: Taping Cracker at the Miramar tonight We taped the show at Luther's Blues last night. House management wasn't going to allow me, but I got permission from Mr. Lowery himself. The crew was very gracious about me recording. Their road manager will want first out for his D7, and the front of house guy even asked me if I was ready before the show started. They did one set, ~2:15, so run a 90m. The two opening acts ran ~0:45 each. Hope someone can get the show... this appears to be new territory for them, but they were happy to permit me to set up. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ------------------------------ From: "Bendes, Richard" Subject: John Butler Trio recordings? I have tried looking for this in the archives without success. I am looking for a method to transfer DAT to my PC hard drive and vice versa without signal loss. All my PCI slots are taken (I did not have much of a choice on the pre-config ). The possible I/O options are: Soundblaster Live 1024 Value IEEE Firewire USB (don't know version yet) SCSI (Ultra SCSI II) I understand that Microsoft driver for USB may loose digital bits - and am wary about the UA-1D (Roland/Edirol) or any other USB device unless the driver is provided by the vendor. Besides the UA-1D is backordered in almost all the places. Is there a different USB product for digital I/O? Once upon a time (a year ago) I had also found a web site with the board layout of the Soundblaster Live card and instructions on how to use the Digitial I/Os without the daughter board. Does anyone know this site? Any inexpensive IEEE or SCSI external interfaces come to mind? Any pointers/help will be greatly appreciated. Its not how the concert was but I feel it's a far more > paletable presentation with the format. I'd prefer the following: Suppose you decide to split at 73:00. CD1 ends with a "fadeout" track from 73:00 to 73:05; CD2 starts with a "fadein" track from 72:55 to 73:00. That way, someone can remove the two "fade" tracks and reconstruct the original music, which will be useful when we have a format that allows longer continuous music. I have played around with and cleaned them but little improvement has resulted. Here's the scoop and any tech help would be appreciated. I am a tech and have no problem dismantling the beasts to any level required to get one going. The machine with the fewest problems will be my first job. The only problem it seems to have is that it won't go into record all of the time. Sometimes it records no problem, sometimes you must hit the record button many times and it will finally go into record. It seems to help sometime if you hit play first, then stop the tape and then try record. It's really annoying not being able to get into record when you really need it. 2nd problem. Sometimes the darn thing just stops while recording, completely random. I have been using a large variety of (used) tapes as I was given hundreds last year. They are mainly Verbatim, Maxell and Sony. Mostly 90M but some 60M. I don't know if it's a tape problem or a transport problem. 3rd. When playing, stopping, fwding etc., the counter "mode" always changes to "programm" from the "continuous" mode. Seems like switch bounce or power supply noise may cause this, or is this normal? Boy, any help to get one of these going would be great. Thanks all. Paul ------------------------------ From: "BB" Subject: Splicing a few secs here and there...suggestions? Date: Mon, 18 Mar 2002 23:58:00 -0600 It's been a long day and I'm tired. So I'm going to be lazy now and do the simple thing. Ask. I have a nmas show I taped. During the show my Oade Cable crapped out. Ah, sweet Oade. Another person also on the list, also taped the show. He has what I don't. Alas, I would like to splice in the spots where my cable acted goofy. I assume that this could be done in a similar manner as a matrix, aligning the snippets in with some cross fades or something. there are maybe 5 that I need to do. 4 are all of 1sec. The 5th though is like 5-10min. I'm irked because it was an otherwise great sounding show, and an really smoking show for NMAS. So how would you all suggest I go about this. I have at my disposal PC: Soundforge 5(though this is single track so I don't see why I'd want to use this); Cool Edit Pro; Samplitude 2496 MAC: Peak VST 2.62 If you have any other program suggestions that will not cost me money, I'm all ears. I feel that continuity to DAT should be maintained. Fades at the end of sets are all good, it is the ones at 650MB or 700MB boundaries that should be nixed. I do feel this is the proper forum to discuss this issue, after all it is DAT Heads Digest. If I went to Yahoo and looked for a group, what should a DAT Man look for? CD Heads digest? 2496 is a issue in by itself. The nice thing about DAT is that you do not have a break in the middle of sets. Maybe we could just get all of the artists to comply with 80 minute maximum sets and fade out their music at the end of their sets and and and all CDR traders would be in heaven. Again this is all my opinion only and I hope no one takes offense. It is simply something that I have a opinion about and I am by no means offended by others opinion.
