I have a new laptop and am in need of a good soundcard for DAT>CDR transfers as well as for use in live recording straight to hard drive. This is the only laptop card I've been able to find info on that meets these purposes. Any feedback on pros/cons of this card, as well as any other options for a laptop would be appreciated. My laptop info if necessary: Dell Inspiron 8100 w/ PIII 1.2 ghz, 512 mg RAM, Windows 2000 pro OS. Also, what software would one recommend if I did go with this card (or other possible cards for that matter). Also, my usual recording set up is: Neumann KM140's>SD MP-2>SBM-1>DAT, so interested in compatability of this setup with laptop recording as well. Obviously it would be nice to upgrade the A/D converter for 32/96 recording, but for now this is what I'll have until my "more new toys" fund is replenished. OTOH, swapping tapes is a pain, so maybe 32 is > the way to go? Why use either? 44.1 is the way to go. 48 gives no discernable increase in sound quality over 44.1, and 32 is just plain nasty. Both of them require sample rate conversion if you want to put them on CD. Do you plan on trading with anyone? They'll probably not accept a 32KHz DAT - most decks can't even play them. Stick with the 44.1 KHz standard. Don't use 48 or 32. Use a 90 meter tape and you won't have to swap. - A.P. -- +----------------------------------------------+ | "Do or not do, there is no spoon." - Neoyoda | +--------------------------------------------60+ NIC: AP5514 http://bitey.net wakko@bitey.net ------------------------------ From: "Henry H. Lykos" Subject: FS: Denecke AD-20 and Stewart BPS-1s Date: Thu, 21 Mar 2002 18:37:54 -0500 Hello everybody, I am selling a few items here. The first is a Denecke AD-20. It is about a year old and used often, but is in *perfect* condition. It looks and functions like it is brand new. Included with this are the accessories for it (AC adapter and digital cable). The second item is a pair of Stewart BPS-1 battery boxes. They have some wear on them (paint is scratched off of the top), but function fine and without any problems. Please e-mail back if interested. If you would like everything, I will throw in the XLR cables needed to connect the Stewarts to the Denecke. Thanks! --Jamie Lykos jlykos@nc.rr.com ------------------------------ From: Jeff Chard Subject: re: cheap jewel cases Date: Fri, 22 Mar 2002 18:50:22 -0500 I just received a case (200) of standard size jewel cases with a clear plastic double sided insert, so each case hold two discs--from American Digital. Price for 200 was $59 plus $12 shipping; total $71.00. That's 35 1/2 cents per, delivered. They seem just fine; discs go on and off the hubs easily enought. Each hub has 3 plastic teeth. I can't vouch for the durability, but so far, like I said, on and off just fine. I intend to use some of these for three-disc shows, with the third disc inside the front booklet, and these single-size cases are sufficient width to allow that. website is am-dig.com Regards, Jeff Chard ------------------------------ From: "Lance Stack" Subject: FS: Shure A15AS Switchable Attenuators Date: Fri, 22 Mar 2002 17:51:45 -0700 Due to an ordering mistake on my part, I ended up with some Shure A15AS attenuators that I do not need. These are the switchable versions that allow 15, 20, or 25 dB of attenuation. Photos as specs are available at: http://www.shure.com/accessories/a15as.asp If anyone needs a pair of these, they cost me $42 each, but I will ship them to you for $30 each (O.B.O). BTW, these have never been used, and other than being taken out of the package I received them in, are brand new.
