Baby #3 is coming 2/27, and I've been going to way fewer shows recently
so it's probably time for me to get rid of my gear. I hate to do it,
I really love taping, but if I sell it, someone can make tapes wtih my
gear, so I can continue to hear em :)
Here's what I have
Schoeps MK21H subcardiod capsule, high frequency boost
Schoeps MK8 figure 8 capsule
Schoeps VMS-02iB Preamp/Midside matrix, runs on 8 AA batteries
Schoeps KCY250iY Active cable, allows you to use the 2 capsules with the
preamp without having bulky mic bodies
Schoeps A20 Shock mount
Schoeps SGMSC Midside mount
Bogen/Manfrotto 8 ft "lighting stand" with thread adapter for microphones
black, very light
Bogen/Manfrotto 8 ft extension, for when you need additional height
Apogee AD500E Analog to Digital Converter, with power supply and
battery/spdif cable
Sony PCM-M1 DAT Very low use, This isn't the deck I took to shows...
Oade Active 7 pin to coax in/out cable
Assorted cables enough to connect this all together in any combination you
can imagine
Sony MDR-V6 headphones. These are the classic closed ear headphones,
that sony replaced with the V600s a few years back that are
vastly inferior. The only difference between these and the
"pro" MDR-7506 headphones (that sell for $99) are these have
aluminum instead of gold connectors. Sound great
Boostaroo mini-headphone amplifier, lets you hear those headphones at
a mule show
Tenba photo bag, holds everything but the stand in an organized, protected way
10 new dds 90m tapes, 3 hrs each, probably a mix of quantegy and sony
And as much assistance with how it all works together as you want.
This is ABSOLUTELY everything that you would need to start taping. I've
been building this rig now since 1997, and I would argue it sounds better
in the right location than any rig out there. It can be very small, for
when you don't want to have a lot of bulky, obtrusive equipment. It can
be run high, when you're outdoors, and the crowd is noisy. Pick up a
Schoeps MK41 and you can run it from the taping section at outdoor venues
where you're 50+ yards from the stage. I never got one, because I tended
to move the middle of the 10 yard line, but, you know :). Makes wonderful
tapes from the 15th row center in a small theater, where mule loves playing.
Makes wonderful tapes in bars, nightclubs, etc. I think anyone who's heard
my tapes would attest to how good this setup can sound. I paid about $5000
for this, I'd take $3200.
I have other things I can throw in for the right deal. I would be willing
to sell the vms + kcy cable + any combination of other gear, but I'd be less
likely to sell just the oade cable, or just the m1, for example.
I'm between philly and new york, and could arrange to deliver it anywhere
in the vicinity to avoid shipping.
I have batteries etc if shipping isn't involved.
paypal or cash preferred. if you want to pay via paypal, make sure you're
verified, since they have a $1k max for non-verified people.
I also have a scoeps ORTF bar (STC), a VX Pocket v2 pcmcia spdif 24/48 card,
a sony pcg-c1x picturebook laptop with a 30gb drive, etc that I could be
convinced to part with.

Hi all-
Posting this for an annoying (but very cute!) friend from work. She
knows I go to a lot of concerts and tape (or at least, used to...) so,
I'm apparently the lucky one who gets to help her...
She has a pair and a single ticket(s) to the Paul McCartney show at
Nassau Coliseum on Sunday, April 21 that she wants to sell. Here are the
details:
Pair
-Sec 118
-Row A
-Seats 11 & 12
Single
-Sec 102
-Row D
-Seat 15
Face for each was $250 plus service charges and other ticketmonster
fees. She is looking for the best offer over $300 each. Please e-mail me
and I will put you in touch with her.
And before I get any flack, I tried to persuade her to just try to sell
them at face but did I mention she's very cute? I mean, very.
So, "I'll" pay for her blondness and give the first 2 analog and 2
digital people who respond (regardless of whether you're interested in
the tix) a copy of the Allmans Brothers show from the Beacon on 3/24 I
taped...
Thanks for listening...

Somebody confirmed with me that many of Creative Labs soundcards in the
Live! Series [excluding some OEM versions] OUTPUT a voltage higher than
the SPDIF Spec which is 0.5v
The Live! Cards output 5 VOLTS and I read that this can damage the SPDIF
IN on a DAT Recorder through the COAX RCA Port.
I am worried about using my DA-40 with one of these cards. Can anyone
confirm if this can damage? This is quite annoying since I just found
out that the cards actually re-sample 48K and 44.1K incoming and
outgoing signals also.

First, if it fits on a Nagra, it is probably 1/4 inch and not 1/2 inch.
Second, there are many articles I have in print and many on the web dealing
with sticky tape and the baking of such to temporarily restore the tape to a
playable condition. Here is one:

I haven't used Sound Forge, but I have been able to correct mild
clipping using the "clipped audio restoration" feature of Cool Edit
2000 (audio cleanup plugin). It's kind of a hassle to use, the
settings need to be tweaked and each instance should be handled
individually, but it can yield good results if you put in the time.
From my limited experience (and grasp of the lingo) I believe actual
brickwalling is much more serious than mere clipping; the overloading
of the preamp introduces a truly horrendous, penetrating distortion
that cannot be repaired this way. In my experience, if the distortion
occurs as very brief high-pitched or "crackly" bursts (not in the bass
frequencies or for longer than a split second), it might well be
fixable.
