i have a couple of fostex dat machines that have this switch. the ops
manuals do not really give a good explanation as to what it does. what
does it do when you input analog? digital? playback? best to leave it
on or off? i am sure others on list might want to also know, so feel
free to address the group. thx

Generally, record with emphasis off. Tapes should be played back with
emphasis set the way it was recorded on them, but that should be
automatic. (Except for digital copies from PCM, very few dat tapes
have emphasis on.)

I know it's a long shot, but wtf. Does anyone have extra tapers
for the raleigh WSP? We mail ordered before the taper ticket
announcement fiasco. We have lawn tickets for trade and decks
so you can leave the show with DAT in hand (KM184>V2>SMB1>DAT).
Alternately, a seat down front in the sweet spot and a taper (I'm
just helping carry this shit in) to walk in with would be even
better. I'd be willing to buy the sweet spot ticket and give you
a lawn seat to get in.
here's hoping.

Hi folks!
Has anyone, anywhere, taped one of the recent FWAP shows with Andy West and
Joaquin Lievano? They opened a few Dixie Dregs shows (looking for those
too!) and I believe they did a few other gigs.
I have run out of sources looking for these and would love to find out if
any exist. Please email me off list at:
craig.chambers@mindspring.com
I have plenty of Dregs and other proggy/jazz/jam stuff.
Thanks!

hey kids,
Does anyone at all have those French gigs Gilmour did
in January on DAT?? I've seen many, many CDRs, but not
one DAT clone. Anyone? Anyone?
And if anyone knows the full scoop on Pink Floyd @ Nassau
2/28/80, please drop a line. I know of a great sounding source
done with a NAK cassette deck, but the best that can be found of
this is a 1st gen cassette as the master is lost. Yet, I see
many master>dats on lists. I assume these are two different sources,
but who can tell with all the sloppiness about. Anyone have info,
or a DAT very, very close to the source?
Also, any DATheads taping the upcoming Roger Waters gigs in Australia??
I hope so!
best wishes and keep on smilin'

I am pretty sure that post was an april fool's joke:
"Anyhow, I'm not even sure there is even a usable signal on the tape,
because I can't tell whether the oxide is still there. In fact, the tape
is fairly translucent."
"3M Scotch Magic Tape" and the box kind of has a green/black/yellow plaid
pattern on it.
He's joking about putting "scotch" tape in a reel to reel deck. I
thought the post was rather clever and a good april fool's joke.

87. now i need to know what the heck i'm reading.. it said 0 40 1H .
for a test, i played a 1 hr tape and re-tried it. it then said 0 40 2H .

Subject: Cranky D8 a good bargain?
Date: Wed, 03 Apr 2002 09:58:21 -0500
Hey everybody,
I am trying to put together a taping rig on a tight budget (building my own
pre-amp, that sort of thing), and I am considering getting a used D8 which
has some trouble unloading tapes. Is this a typical, easy-to-fix problem
for a reasonably skilled DIYer? Is there a refurbish service that I can
count on for less than $130? If I can get this for under $100-150, does
this sound like a good deal?
Also, are there significant "practical" or audible difference between the
D7, D8, and D100 or M1? (this may be a whole 'nother post, all by itself!)
Thanks for your input.

Subject: FS: barely used premium AT853 mics and battery module
Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 11:55:50 -0500
Here's what I've got:
Sound Professionals premium matched AT853 cardiod mics with alligator
clips, 2 interchangeable hypercardiod elements, and premium battery
module w\bass roll off, with belt clip.
These are an incredible little set of mics, in mint condition. I've
sold my DAT deck, so I have little use for them now (I'm the first and
only owner of the mics, BTW).
Detailed info is on The Sound Professional's web pages, and for
reference I've listed the model numbers and current prices found there
(http://www.soundprofessionals.com/).
- AT853 cardiod mics w\clips: SP-CMC-4 == $169 + $20
- battery module w\bass roll off: SP-BDF-2 premium == $59 + $20, and $7
for belt clip
- two hypercardiod elements: AT853H-ELE == $80
- the original literature: priceless :)
I'll consider any serious offers, but I'd like to sell everything
together.
Thanks!
--AK
PS It seems the SP only sell SP-BDF-2 with no bass roll-off option now,
for some reason...

hi!
couple of months ago i've set up a mailing list for european tapers mainly
at yahoogroups.com. if
you want to join this group please send a mail to the following adress:
dmsounds-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
this mailinglist is as i said for tapers. it should be a plattform for
european tapers to comunicate and talk about mics, dats, mds, tapersections,
venue infos and whatsoever!. we've also set up an european database for
tapers which includes all the important info you need (venue-pix, security
checks, capacity etc...) of several popular
venues in europe!. we're also trying to install a weekly
"dead-center-radio-hour" in which we'll broadcast some live tracks taken
from our list members!.
please keep in mind that this is a taper-list not a trader-list. there are a
lot of those and i do not want to see our list going into that direction!.
right now we are 82 tapers and still counting :-).
c ya soon :) !
