>(Except for digital copies from PCM, very few dat tapes
>have emphasis on.)
Any tapes mastered through the analog inputs on the Teac DA-P20 will have
emphasis on them. The Teac, precursor to the Tascam DA-P1 was a very
popular deck and many are still in use today (including one by me which is
my preferred deck at shows). But, anyone who was digitally patched out of
me at a show before I had my AD1000 came home with emphasis on their tapes.
This is why people who are transferring their tapes into their computers for
CD-R burning should make sure to check for the presence of emphasis on their
tapes -- especially if the lead deck in the tape's spec's was a DAP20.

Subject: need help with DAT>Cd transfers
Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 15:01:28 -0800
Hi all,
I'm a newb at this stuff, so forgive my ignorance.
I am looking to outfit myself with whatever is needed to do DAT to CD
transfers. My understanding at this point is that I have a couple of
options:
1) Get a digital soundcard. I like this idea because if I am not mistaken,
this would enable me to make DAT clones as well? Another option in this
category is this product I have seen called the SonicPort by OpCode. But
OpCode seems to be on shaky ground and the product may or may not exist.
Anyone have any experience with this or similar (external usb connection)
products? Recommendations of which is *the* soundcard to buy?
2) I could get a standalone CD burner. This sounds like an easy option and
so is also appealing. Any recommendations of which model CD burner? Will the
quality be as good with this option?
Thanks for any and all advice on the subject. Also, if there are some
websites that discuss this (etree seemed really out of date and
insubstantial), please let me know. Thanks in advance for our help.

I am a relatively new user to the DAT2WAV application (extracting WAV files
directly from a computer DAT drive to a PC), and I have been having issues
where the software will only extract a minute or two before it stops.....
Some times I get an error from the SCSI bus, sometime nothing.
If anyone can help out (on or off list), I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Less than one year old, about 15 hours of recording time in the heads at
best. Would like to send COD ASAP to the first poerson who can have 325
dollars ready to go. ust upgraded to a DA-PI and need to pay off some CC
bill. Otherwise, I could accept an overnighted money order. I will pick
up shipping. The unit has worked flawlessly, and was checked out to be in
factory condition last summer!

A heads up for Patty Griffin fans in Nashville and New York. I would love DAT
or CD copies of these two upcoming FM broadcasts and have plenty of Patty,
including masters, to trade. Please drop me a line if you manage to get one
of these. Alan

Lindsley in Nashville, which has long been sold out, will now, due to popular
demand, be FM broadcast and webcast live, beginning at 9:30 p.m. CST.
Nashville area listeners can hear it on 100.1 and 94.1. FM. The webcast can
be heard from anywhere in the world at http://www.wrlt.com.
On Wednesday, April 10, at 11:00 a.m., tune in to WFUV's live broadcast of

Hey People,
I'm trying to convert a few DATs from 48>44.1 and I'm trying to do it
for as cheap (or free) as possible. I care less about the resampling
accuracy than I do the price to resample. I would like the resampled
version to sound nice but I wouldn't be looking for perfection. I don't
trade CD, it's more for playing in the car (rather than dragging DAT
tapes out in the cold). I have the following:
Audiophile 2496 (digital in)
CD Wave v1.71 (copying to HD)
Feurio! v1.60 (burning CDs)
Do I have the capabilities already and just don't realize it or is there
a cheap solution?
Any and all help is appreciated!
Peace,
Sean

Subject: Re: 4/3/96 2nd set matrix
Date: Wed, 03 Apr 2002 19:58:11 -0500
It's sitting on my hard drive. I couldn't seem to get Sound Forge or Cool Edit
to stretch one file (second set, just over an hour long) by .25 seconds so that
there wouldn't be a shift in the music (that was very noticeable towards the
end). I was able to get SF to stretch a file by 200%, but it didn't seem to
like the smaller time stretch. Has anyone been able to get a piece of music to
be just a little bit longer, at the same sample rate, of course? Help
appreciated.

You'll need software capable of doing the resampling, such as Cool Edit
2000. I think even the trial version, limited to one or two functions
each time you run it, could handle the job.

general admission? On the grass, or on chairs? Can I get close enough to

Phish
4-4-92
C.U. Field house
Boulder, CO
Once again I'm looking for this tape...
It's the 10 year anniversary of this show (my 2nd Phish show),
and I've yet to find it. I've been trying to track this one down
since it happened. I know it was taped because I saw at least
one mic stand (not Paul's.), and I have a 6th gen Aud cassette
of set 1.
I have found the tapers for the previous 2 shows 4/1/92 and
4/3/92 and the show immediately afterwards 4/5/92, but keep
hitting a brick wall as far as this show is concerned. As many
of the older masters are coming out into circulation, I thought
this one might surface, but so far I've found nothing. I have a
good feeling it was mastered on Sennheiser ME 80's, as were many
of the shows around that date/location. Does this sound like
someone you knew that taped in Colorado in 1992?
Please take a minute to dig through your old analog collections
or those of friends and see if anything turns up. It would
really make my Colorado-collection complete.
Many Thanks!
Peace,
