Has anyone used these recently? Had any problems with them?
I have gotten some in trade before and never noticed anything wrong with
them, but I have never used any Sony blanks of any sort myself.
Seems like I heard once that some people had problems with the orange hub
Sonys, but I don't know if they are still making them the same or not.

This is for the European tapers on the list. The band A-Ha will be going out later this spring to tour for their
upcoming cd release. If anyone can, please catch a few of these shows and record. I saw their schedule by going to
www.pollstar.com, and a link for them was on the left hand side.
Thanks.

I finally started converting some shows with my new
UA-5. I found that some of them need their overall
level increased. What would be a good (and
cheap/free) editing program? I am using CDWave right
now to split the tracks, but I would like to use
something else.
Thanks,
Kevin

Tom,
Thanks for the great explanation! I have one question to toss into this. Usually my DAT recordings which have pre-emphasis are 48 KHz. I need to resample these to 44.1 KHz to burn to CD-R. Is it OK to read the wave into the computer, software sample rate convert it and then just activate the FLAGS PRE when I burn the CD, not worrying about pre/de while the file is a wave? Actually, now that you've passed on the EQ curve, I may try that instead of the FLAG. Is this better? Do you suppose they'll stop putting de-emphasis capability into CD players/D to A converters?

Subject: usb2 vs firewire (IEEE1394) comparison article
Date: Sat, 6 Apr 2002 12:54:30 -0800
i came across this article and figured i would pass it on since it seems
many of the digital audio interface technologies and recording technologies
seem to be headed in the USB/Firewire direction. The article offers a
general comparison of the technologies and some benchmarks based on a
external HD example
http://www.extremetech.com/print_article/0,3428,a=25038,00.asp
the thing that stands out to me as a pretty major difference in the article
is the amount of power that can be supplied over the interface; certainly
looks like firewire (IEEE1394) is better suited for supplying power to
chained devices (like mics/preamps/etc)...makes you wonder why we havent
seen any portable firewire gear comparable to the usbpre, edirol ua-3/5 or
egosys u2a for laptop recording. there seems to be a fair amount of studio
rack gear based on firewire
