Matt!
I was running into the same situation. So...what I ended up doing was having
a friend of mine make me a special cable that would enable me to run my
Denecke PS-2 and AD-20 off of a 12volt lead acid cell. If you look at the
specs for both of those boxes, you'll see that 12volts is within the range
of acceptable voltages(6volts was good for one of them but not the other).
Anyway, this ended up working out much better and was cheaper in the long
run. Of course, the 12volt battery is rechargable, and the best thing was
that I was no longer spending money on 9volt batteries for every show, which
added up after a while. So check it out. The battery can be one of those
from Eco-Charge. Then just have a cable made that is a 4-pin XLR male
connector to two mini plug connectors that will go into the Denecke boxes.
Make sure you keep your pins and positives/negatives straight and you should
be ok. If I remember correctly, there's a little diagram on the Denecke
boxes that show that the tip is positive. But check to make sure. Good luck.

Looking to sell my Technics (Panasonic) SV-md1 unit. It has xlr ins, rca
ins, and digital output. I have only used this deck as my "play" deck in my
cloning setup, and no longer need it due to the recent purchase of a digital
soundcard. If you're a uni-decker looking to escape that status this deck is
for you. Looking to get $200 or best offer.
Email me for more info.

LOS ANGELES, April 9 (Reuters) - Big Brother is listening!
That's the message the recording industry hoped to send on Tuesday by
announcing it had collected $1 million from a company that let employees
swap songs on an internal server.
Arizona-based Integrated Information Systems Inc., which ran a dedicated
server permitting employees to access and distribute thousands of music
files over the company network, agreed to pay the Recording Industry
Association of America (RIAA) $1 million rather than face the music in court.
The trade group, which represents the major music companies like AOL Time
Warner Inc.'s AOL.N Warner Music, Bertelsmann AG's BTGGga.D BMG, Sony
Corp.'s 6758.T Sony Music, Vivendi Universal EAUG.PA V.N and EMI Group
Plc EMI.L has been on a legal crusade to stamp out online copyright
infringement since successfully hobbling Napster, the original song-swapping
service, with a preliminary injunction last year.
"This sends a clear message that there are consequences if companies allow
their resources to further copyright infringement," said Matt Oppenheim,
RIAA Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs.
"We applaud IIS for accepting its responsibility and working actively with
us to settle this case out of court."
IIS is an Arizona-based company offering various technology and business
consulting services. One of the products offered by IIS, ironically,
included software that provided secure distribution of copyrighted
digital material.
In mid-2001, RIAA became aware of IIS's company server dedicated solely
to allowing employees to post and share thousands of copyrighted MP3
files, which are digitally compressed music files, at work.
The infringing works included songs by such artists as the Police, Sarah
McLachlan, A Perfect Circle, Ricky Martin, Aerosmith, Better than Ezra,
and The Caifanes.
"We hope this discourages other companies from similar activity and
serves to remind the public of their important role in helping us to
combat music piracy," said Frank Creighton, RIAA's director of
anti-piracy, who said the RIAA got a tip about IIS via an email.
In August 2001, the RIAA asked IIS to stop the practice and the two
parties entered talks for a settlement.
The RIAA on Tuesday also said it reached a $3.2 million settlement
from CD manufacturing company DOCdata USA to resolve claims the
company had pressed dozens of infringing CDs, including albums by
Santana, Toni Braxton and Destiny's Child.
Last week, the RIAA sued Technicolor Inc., one of the largest
manufacturers and distributors of music and video programming, for
allegedly producing pirated CDs of major artists.

Does anyone know the CA. Guitar Trio's policy on fans
recording their gigs? They're playing the North Star

I know the FK's are taper friendly but not sure about

Anyone have recording experience at this venue?
I'd appreciate your insights too.

I'd recommend using 24V if you can; 12V is WAY too low. If you use
12V, expect it to clip on just about anything. Also, some finicky
mics may have problems with not getting enough power. From my little
bit of experimenting with mine on a variable power supply, it's much
happier above 14-15V, so I'd consider that to be a minimum usable
voltage.

Subject: 9V rechargeables
Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 12:24:19 -0700 (PDT)
I've had no problems using Radio Shack 9 V 150 mAH NiMH cells in my
18 V Crown Power Supply, despite the fact that 'full charge' is more
like 8.7 V instead of the 9.2-9.5 you get from a fresh alkaline battery.
Two of these cells will run my mics (TOA KY cardiods... they draw 4-8 mA)
for pretty much all day (6-8 hours).
I think Thomas Distributing offers some higher capacity 9 V cells,
but i haven't needed them yet.
You may need to buy a special charger for the 9 V cells; I recharge mine
off the same Radio Shack '1hr fast charger' that I use for my NiMH AA & AAA's.
Said charger will accept 1 9 V cell and feed it a trickle charge (50 mA?
i forget...) so that if I leave the cell in overnight, it's fully charged.
An alternate solution to using gel cells (I'm tired of carrying lead around)
is to adapt batteries designed for other gear with similar power requirements.
In the next few weeks I'll be trying out an NiMH pack designed for digital
cameras with my MP-2 preamp... I was tempted to try Li Ion, but I wanted
to be able to use the AA's I currently have instead.
If you go with a DIY solution, remember that NiMH cells described as 1.5 V
are in actuality more like 1.2-1.3, so for a 6 V solution, you'd want 5 or 6
cells in your battery pack, not 4.
