Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 16:03:23 +1200 Hi, I'm recording "The Pink Floyd Experience" (said to be a awesome cover band, they tour New Zealand) next week. The show is going to be 3 hours and I only use 120min tapes. I'm planning on just clipping my mics on the front row of the balcany and laying back to chill out to the music. Will the 32mhz Sample rate on my TCD-D8 be ok quality to record with? (using Core Sound Binaurals). Since I have now been to the show, I can say that you need to stealth if you are planning on recording the show. Both bands do not, at least to night, allow taping, and the Yorn folks did tell the door staff not to let people in with gear. Just a heads up. Also, the set here was short, only about an hour twenty. Have a good one. Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 12:45:09 -0700 So far I've just done a few "binaural" recordings with CSBs clipped to my eyeglasses. I want to try kludging up a Jecklin disk with the CSBs, but at least the first show I want to record this way will be a crowded, stand-up small bar show. Can anyone recommend a stand I might find in the SF Bay Area in the next couple of days? I think I've seen that photogs have "monopods", or maybe the're bipods...basically a telescoping pole with a little foot that kicks out that you can stand on to stabilize it....? I probably want something that will work as low as 4 feet but not much taller than 10 feet. Thanks. One that's reasonably priced and easily found is N-Track (www.ntrack.com). Another very popular program is Syntrillium's Cool Edit Pro (www.syntrillium.com). And then there's Sound Forge, Steinberg's WaveLab and many others. I have been considering switching to this setup myself. But I wanted to see some positive results before jumping in. I know that others would benefit from this information. Hence my public post. Has anyone else besides Mike been using this setup? Have your results been very positive? Mike, how long have you been running this setup? How many hours are you able to power your PS-2 and AD-20? Any other information that anyone could share would be greatly appreciated! Thanx! D-Rider ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From: "mboden1579" Subject: Re: DAT-heads Digest #280 Date: Tue, 9 Apr 2002 20:25:21 -0700 Matt! I was running into the same situation. So...what I ended up doing was having a friend of mine make me a special cable that would enable me to run my Denecke PS-2 and AD-20 off of a 12volt lead acid cell. If you look at the specs for both of those boxes, you'll see that 12volts is within the range of acceptable voltages(6volts was good for one of them but not the other). Anyway, this ended up working out much better and was cheaper in the long run. Of course, the 12volt battery is rechargable, and the best thing was that I was no longer spending money on 9volt batteries for every show, which added up after a while. So check it out. The battery can be one of those from Eco-Charge. Then just have a cable made that is a 4-pin XLR male connector to two mini plug connectors that will go into the Denecke boxes. Make sure you keep your pins and positives/negatives straight and you should be ok. If I remember correctly, there's a little diagram on the Denecke boxes that show that the tip is positive. But check to make sure. Good luck.
