Neither is the EDIROL UA-30, to my great disappointment and disgust
(this is mentioned nowhere on the Editrol page - professional digital
audio that isn't bit for bit accurate? A company run by marketing and
salespeople, obviously.)
Their tech assistance person laid the blame with USB and microsoft. USB
has plenty of capacity, so either he's knowingly lying or doesn't
understand USB. It could be microsoft USB audio drivers. (This was
under Win2K). I've recently switched to linux, and this board is
supported, since it implements the standard USB audio "class"
specification. I haven't selected what audio tools I'm going to use yet
(there is so much to do...) but when that happens I'll test it again.
Who knows, maybe it is microsoft. Personally I bet its Edirol's
hardware at fault. At some point we'll see.

I've been looking for this show for quite some time. I know it exists. I'd
prefer it on CD-R, but DAT will do. I can only offer CD-R's. Check out my

I'm really glad info on batteries has popped up,
I'm currently using Monster Power Digital Charger w/ the Monster Power 1800 mah nimh batteries in my D8. I haven't had a single problem in the 3-4 months I've used them. They hold up very nicely, but I'm wondering if I could be doing any unseen damage to my D8.
I also use the AD20 and PS2 so if people are passing on good info for rechargeables for that setup, please post it to the list
anyone have any interest in Bardo Pond shows, I've got a weeks worth of the end of the March 02 tour, just get back to me.

So I finally got a DAT deck about 10 years behind the curve.
It's a Casio DA-7 and I'm going to build a battery for it using the
following:
6 C-cell sled, 6 D-cell sled, molex connector
Anybody have experience with these? I sure don't want to
smoke this like the battery did when I tried to charge it
in the deck.
Please email me if you have pointers on this.

Kind of an odd time, but it's free--NRBQ keyboardist extraordinaire Terry
Adams playing in a jazz context. Terry's thought to be anti-taping , so this
would be a stealth situation. But if anyone can make it PLEASE do and contact
me. Plenty of diverse stuff to trade.
Terry Adams in a very rare non-NRBQ appearance. Thus, April 18, 1 pm,

Hi, I'm recording "The Pink Floyd Experience" (said to be a awesome
cover
band, they tour New Zealand) next week. The show is going to be 3 hours
and
I only use 120min tapes. I'm planning on just clipping my mics on the
front
row of the balcany and laying back to chill out to the music.
Will the 32mhz Sample rate on my TCD-D8 be ok quality to record with?
(using
Core Sound Binaurals).
Thanks
-Karl
Yes, the quality will be OK.
But better is to use 44.1/48kHz with a dds4 tape.
Playing time more than 4 hours.

Once again its time for liquidating some extra copies of CDs that have been
sitting around or were from trades that never materialized over the past six
months. If you'd enjoy any of these, get in touch and send a trade list. Any
that don't get snagged in trades, will be B&P'ed to whoever asks first. All
are nice quality and properly track indexed (no gaps!).
I'm interested in filling in a few 1971-74 Dead SBDs I don't have, Jerry &
Merle, Old & In The Way, and open to any non-Dead suggestions too. Here's
whats up for grabs. Don't forget to send a list if you'd enjoy trading.

"COOLEDIT PRO" is far from "cheap" though, it's over $250!!!
"COOLEDIT2000" would be a better alternative at about $70
http://www.syntrillium.com/cooledit/index.html
as far as i know, the main difference between the 2 is that the "PRO"
version supports multiple I/O and can be used for mutli-tracking, neither of
which kevin probably needs..there are also additional bells/whistles in the
PRO version of course, but again, probably nothing kevin needs for what he
is doing
i use COOLEDIT2k for all my DAT-->CD-R mastering needs & am very happy with
it (in combination with EAC to write the finished discs)
kevin also wrote:

if you are splitting your one disc wavefile into individual files for
tracking purposes you MUST use something like CDWAVE to do that, in order to
stay on the proper CD-R sector boundaries during the burn (or you'll get
clicks/pops/silence/garbage between tracks)
an easier alternative IMO to breaking up into seperate files though is to
keep single disc wavefiles intact and simply write a cuesheet that maps out
where the trackbreaks are to occur
to use a cuesheet though you will need to use software which supports
cuesheets
CDRWIN ($40 or $30 for students) and EAC (free) both support cuesheets
(if you want more info on cuesheets email me off list)

You have everything you need except software to do the resampling. For
a low cost solution, you might consider N-Track (http://www.ntrack.com).
For something more pricey, consider WaveLab 4 (from Steinberg).

I also was considering going to the SLA battery for my PS-2 and Zefiro
Inbox. However, I don't suggest wasting your money on an Eco-Charge
battery. The same battery can be purchased at Batteries Plus retail
stores for $20 and an extra $10 for the charger. The wires and
connectors might cost another $10 at Radio Shack. All you need to do is
solder up all the cables and connectors, then you're ready to tape. One
of those batteries will run a DMIC-20 for over 10 hours, and a D8 for
nearly 15 hours. I have several friends that are successfully using the
homemade setups in the field.
Take it easy,
Rob
