Vinesh ------------------------------ From: "Erik B" Subject: FS: 4 Belle & Sebastian tickets Detroit 5/10 Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 22:41:26 -0400 I can't make it and would like to sell these four floor tickets for face (I believe I paid $130 for all 4 after TM charges). I'd prefer a taper to get one of them but that's not necessary.... I'd also be interested in hearing a good tape from this tour. email if interested Erik erikb33@bellatlantic.net ------------------------------ From: randy@monkeybiz.Stanford.EDU Subject: Re: disappearing errors Date: Mon, 15 Apr 2002 20:50:03 -0700 (PDT) To clarify things a little further, here's an attempt at an ASCII diagram of my setup: Coax output of DAT -> Digital Distribution Box -> Computer SoundCard | V D/A Converter -> Stereo I haven't paid attention to the 'sync' light on the D/A, but I suppose it could be the source of the dropouts instead of the DAT deck (this would explain why the file on the computer is ok...) I'll try recording the same file twice and then doing a bit-comparison to see what differences appear next... thanks for the suggestions (both here & privately)! -rand0m ------------------------------ From: "Peter Hicks" Subject: FS: TASCAM DA-302 Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 00:48:18 -0400 hello, I have a Tascam DA-302 for sale. 30-40 hrs playback one deck one. Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 01:26:59 -0400 Long gone are the days of analog taping... or are they?? I find it very interesting that most tapers today have traded in their old reel to reel equipment for DAT units, yes its true that reel to reel is a bit outdated now, and quite large to carry around, but should it be brought back??? Personally, (and many people will agree with me) I feel that nothing will ever surpass a high quality analog recording. I understand that this may be off topic for such a group as "DAT Heads" but it is an avenue which I feel should be investigate! I'd like to hear from you tapers out there, especially those who still tape on analog, what equipment is out there for today's modern analog taper?? what does your rig look like? To me it seems that difference between an analog recording and a digital recording is no different than that of a solid state amp vs. an all tube amp.. I hope that this post reaches a marantz pdm-430 owner, I'd like to hear the difference with my AKG K 1000's hooked up to my MG Head OTL Headphone amp, which I just replaced the stock 12AX7 tube with a Sylvania Gold Brand 5751.. Any way, just a little food for thought, I'd like to see what you all think of analog taping in the field today, has been completely abandoned? This unit is in excellent condition. I also have a one year old Neumann SKM140 kit. Comes in the wooden box w/ the manuals, actives, ortf, and xy bars. I took very good care of these mics. We've never been to Roseland, and would like to know what security is like. Do they use metal detector wands or pat down at the door? If anyone could give advice on sneaking in a dat recorder/preamp/mics into the venue on or off list it would be appreciated. We're leaning towards using 'stealthy' binaural mics, but might also use some full bodied cards, if anyone that has taped No Doubt, or taped at Roseland, and could give any advice on the best location to tape from (sweet spot) it would also be greatly appreciated. You MUST resample (using Cool Edit or Soundforge for instance) when going to 48>44.1kHz...there is no quick fix to that. You have everything you need except software to do the resampling. For a low cost solution, you might consider N-Track (http://www.ntrack.com). For something more pricey, consider WaveLab 4 (from Steinberg). With the 48khz file open in CDWave, you can save it as a 44.1 khz file. Or, break it up into separate tracks, and then save those smaller files in 44.1 khz format. -Bill _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ ** FOR YOUR REFERENCE ** To unsubscribe from this digest, please send email to dat-heads-unsubscribe@datheads.phish.net If your email address has changed, you may (optionally) send the message to dat-heads-unsubscribe-oldaddress=olddomain@datheads.phish.net and the old address will be removed.
