Subject: McCartney Security Question
Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 19:14:19 EDT
I plan to record McCartney's show on Sunday in NY. I was wondering what
security is like at his shows. Does he have his own metal detectors or are
they venue specific? What are my chances of getting my D-100 in? What are
some good ways of getting one past a metal detector if there are any?
Thanks,
Tom

Yes, this is not a joke. I taped them in West Palm Beach Schoeps CMC5/MK41 >
Lunatec V2 > Graham Patten ADC-20 > Fostex D5.
Many of the rigs that went along with this "project" consisted of mic > md,
so its something to get involved with if you're a weezer fan and a taper.
Its a one taper a show sort of deal.

I, for one, will hold onto my sturdy Sony D-5 analog deck. It's a workhorse,
and has made some great recordings in the 20+ years I've owned it. (I also
own a D-8 and M-1.) It's a tough stealth, and 45 minute recording segments
are murder, but it's NEVER failed me.

hi everyone,
we are pleased once again to announce the next two roger waters shows to be
treed... darien lake ny 8/14/99 (master dat clone at 853 (card caps) > d100
7th row and columbus ohio 8/15/99 (core sound biaugs>bass rolloff>pcm1 20th
row center). both these recordings are clean and have relatively little
audience interference. once again two real nice shows to add to your pink
floyd/ roger waters collections. so if you would like to do so please drop
us a line at fearless-pigeon@nac.net (not fearlesss- !!! the damn isp added
an extra s the last time which lead to all sorts of problems) and let us
know. please put "roger waters "tour forest" #14+#15" in the subject
heading and put your email addy , state how you would like to participate
(branch or leaf) and your county in the body of the message. sign-ups end
for these two gems next sunday 4/21. branches are required to take on up to
five leaves.
we are also delighted to report that every show so far from the 2002 stint
has been confirmed recorded and has been promised to the forest. from the
dats that have already been sent these shows have a renewed excillerence
about them.the new band holds together well and the veterans have a greater
role in playing the music. just can't wait to hear what they sound like by
the end of the tour! roger waters shines in excellence and we can't thank
him enough for all the great music he has given us. and all of this would
not have been possible if it was not for all of you out there that have
joined our cause of documenting this legend's work. we and every roger
waters fan want to thank once again the unselfish generosity of the fans
that captured these shows and are sharing them for all of us to enjoy.with
out them none of this would have ever been possible.

<You MUST resample (using Cool Edit or Soundforge for
<instance) when going to 48>44.1kHz...there is no quick fix to that.
AFAIK CDWave can resample when told to do so; however, from the looks
the results are indeed 'quick' as in 'quick and dirty'. Like the
fastest resampling results in say Cooledit, they have an edgy look, as opposed
to the smoth results of high quality resampling modes or the original or
(my pet choice) something that comes from a chip based DA/AD source, like a 2nd DAT deck..
I feel not in a position to comment on the actual *sound* of the different
resampling solutions, but the looks of fast software solutions are not inviting, imho.

Need help from Cd architect expert
Have SF4.5>CDArchitect 4.0g
Plextor 16/10/40/a
=================
I have this problem (I have always had, but due I didn't noticed any wrong I
minded it could be not important, since then a guy got problem using EAC
with some CD's I sent him)
Ok, hope you'll understand my bad (english) explain.
==============
Example:
Let's say I have edit 7 tracks with Sound forge
I open CDarchitect
Then I add to Audio pool
After double click on the 'main' file name, the regions all appear in the
top window.
On right (in the middle of the screen) appears the order of the track
example
00:00:02,00 (start) - 00:06:34,14 (end)
00:06:34,14 (start) - 00:11:51,40 (end)
00:11:51,40 (start) - 00:18:06,01 (end)
00:18:06,01 (start) - 00:26:03,72 (end)
00:26:03,72 (start) - 00:33:55,19 (end)
00:33:55,19 (start) - 40:51:43,00 (end)
The problem is that on below of the screen , the order become
track 1 - index 1 - 00:00:02,00 (start) - 00:06:34,14 (end)
Track 2 - index 1 - 00:06:34,14 (start) - 00:11:51,40 (end)
track 3 - index 1 - 00:11:51,41 (start) - 00:18:06,01 (end)
track 4 - index 1 - 00:18:06,01 (start) - 00:26:03,72 (end)
track 5 -index 1 - 00:26:03,72 (start) - 00:33:55,19 (end)
track 6 -index 1 - 00:33:55,20 (start) - 40:51:43,00 (end)
please note the end of track 2 and the start of track 3 (00:00:00:01), and
the end of track 5 and the start of track 6 (00:00:00:01)
In few words, also if I use the DAO mode ( 00:00:00:00 between regions), CDa
always add (randomly, but let's say on track 3, 6, and more) 00:00:00,01
How can fix this problem? Why this occurs?
Any help is appreciated

Subject: M1/D100: display error rates? Alignment drift: how fast?
Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 12:53:05 -0700
Ugh, it looks like my < 1 year old M1 has drifted way out of alignment;
I'm having trouble playing stuff I recorded even a month ago. A dry-tape
cleaning seems to have helped with the stuff I recorded over the weekend,
but tapes I recorded when it was new, which play fine on an R300 demo
at Guitar Showcase...are almost completely digi-noise, as is the one
DAT I've traded for. Conversely, the tapes I recorded in the last month
or so on the M1 are unlistenable on the R300.
I searched the archives for a while, but couldn't find what I was looking
for:
How can I display the error rates (and is there a runtime counter?)
on the M1?
And have other folks had their M1 drift this soon?
I don't have a record of the usage, but I've only got a stack of about
15 tapes that I've recorded on, and would probably played back each one
once or twice to dump to hard disk, so probably have around 100 hours
on the heads.
Thanks....

fareed has been quite taper friendly of late; stage mics, patches, etc...
fareeds manager 'skatch' (or as i affectionately call him 'sketch' ;) does
record as well with a D8. some of his work is available for $10 and under at
the merch table and highly recommended.
bring your gear, ask to talk with 'skatch' or even try for 'kimmy' if you
have issues.
providing you play your cards right you'll have no problems :)

A few days ago I said I was looking for a stealthy non-DAT recorder. I
think I've found one. 20 GB ( = 35 hours) hard drive with analog input that
records to wav. Still not sure if I'll need a mic preamp (but I'm assuming
I will). Retail is $399 and they ship this month...
Anybody know what kind of input this thing expects? Any good reasons why I
shouldn't get one?
Anybody got a circuit diagram for a simple mic preamp?
Just wondering -
