I'll send a DVD or >DAT or CD to anyone who can help. Most likely, what you're noticing is picture clarity. :) Your 12 year old set won't have nearly the accuracy or clarity of a newer set (especially a Sony). Plus, you're now using component in which has a MUCH sharper picture with much more accurate colors than even S-Video. Your old RF modulator doesn't compare. However, if you've had the old set for 12 years, you're probably used to everything being just a tad fuzzy. Colors are probably more muted and the edges aren't sharp. The newer set probably looks "extra" bright, and almost strident on the edges on screen. At a company I used to work for, we switched out an older gentleman's 32" RCA (which was a piece of junk) for a new Sony XBR (which is a nice TV, even though I'm really not fond of the flat-screen tube sets). He had instructed us to toss the old set. About 2 hours after we made the switch (and had disposed of the old TV), he called back to complain that the new set didn't look "right" and that the picture wasn't as "good" as his old set. It's just a matter of what you're used to. If you normally listen to music on walkman headphones, you'll no doubt be dazzled by hearing that same music from a good set of loudspeakers with midbass clarity and subbass response. I would wager it's the exact same thing in this case. Check it out, and see if that's what it is. Keith -- Keith D. Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 11:08:35 -0400 Last nights' Motorhead show was an extreme stealth situation....somehow during setup the SP/LP switch on my D7 got bumped and I ended up with a 32 khz tape. Sounded fine on headphones during the drive back, but got nothing but garbage when played back at home on the SV-3800. I copied a bit of the tape, and a copy plays back fine on both decks. I remember hearing something about Sony having a different 32 khz system, but what gives? Is there any way to play the master back on a non-Sony deck? Or do I have to make a copy for myself to listen to it on my SV-3800? Why does the copy play back on both decks but not the master? This seems to work fine, but now I have two tapes of the same show....I guess this is good to have a master tape backed up, but is there any other way around it? If I copy the tape for a trade, will there be issue with playback on certain decks, or am I safe? Thanks again for the posting, john e. bogus ------------------------------ From: "john e. bogus" Subject: current Motorhead tour Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2002 11:08:29 -0400 Anyone stealthing Motorhead on this tour should be prepared for a door search, even in venues where this is not standard policy. A tour manager or promoter is probably responsible for this, as I've never been gone over like this before either at any previous Motorhead show or at the 2 venues I've taped at on this current tour. Searching is done by extra venue staff, not band employees. Beware and be prepared for an extreme stealth situation..... But it seems relevant to the recent list discussions of the (lack of?) future of DAT. Maybe it will inspire somebody to make a smaller four or two-channel, non-timecode "prosumer" version. Maybe it will inspire some Linux hackers to start a DIY project. obDATContent: sigh...I've got to take my only rig in to get the alignment fixed today. Right at the start of concert season.
