I know this is way off topic, but I've only had one disc out of a few hundred from Netflix arrive unplayable. This disc was actually cracked down the center, but everything has played quite well. We have an older (2 year old) DVD player, but everything arrives in working order. Maybe your DVD player is sensitive, but I just wanted to post that since my experience had been pretty much all positive.. -Andy
From: "Studiowiz" <studiowiz@sympatico.ca> Subject: SONY DG60P & DG90P DDS Head Wear Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 01:15:58 -0500 I have used boxes and boxes of SONY DG60P & 90 tapes with my Tascam DA-40 and have never had a problem. I also recorded 200 or so MAXELL HS-4 DDS tapes mostly 90m but I switched to Sony after a debate a couple of years ago when everyone was calling them BLACK DEATH tapes. I only had 3 bad tapes from Maxell but they still play fine with zero errors. As for cleaning my DA-40, I am at 434hrs now and I haven't cleaned it once. I used to clean my old deck with Methyl Hydrate on the heads with Foam anti'static swabs very lightly. I don't know if I will try it again. Probably not since I might mess up the alignment. Has anyone tried this themselves? I don't think I am ever going to clean this deck until I get a problem. My older Tascam deck actually started getting errors after I was trying the dry cleaning tape.

Thanks! Jim

From: MrLens <lens@sprintmail.com> Subject: TAPERS NEEDED NOW! JAX/MELBOURNE, FL Reply-To: lens@sprintmail.com Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 09:47:50 -0400 Hey now, My good friend Forrest McDonald and his band are playing tonight in Atlanta and tomorrow in Jacksonville (4PM) and then in Melbourne. FL at 9PM as they're headlining the Melbourne Art Festival. I was supposed to go but am stuck in Mass. (my date cancelled on me and we have to fly together...some airline BS). Anyhow, Forrest would give you access to the stage, SBD, whatever...just get there early and tell the band "Lens" sent you...you'll get carte blanche treatment. You can check his music out at ForrestMcDonald.com This band really rocks. Here's the itinerary: April 25th and April 27th Forrest McDonald with Raymond Victor & The 3D Blues Band will be playing ONE NIGHT ONLY in Atlanta at Darwin's on Thursday, April 25th. Don't miss your chance to see Forrest! Raymond Victor is flying in from California! The incomparable Andrew Black will be sitting in for the late, great Dave Parnell. That's not all!!! They'll be backed up by a very solid rhythm section--Connoisseur of the Lower Register, Jonathan Schwenke, on bass; and the often-imitated-but-never-duplicated John McKnight on drums. Dig your bathing suit and flip flops out of the closet, 'cause it's time for a BLUES ROAD TRIP to the beach! The aforementioned blues ambassadors will be spreading their blues message to the good folks of Florida! Forrest and his band are scheduled to play at Jacksonville Beach's 56th Annual Festival at 2:00 p.m. on April 27th at the Sea Walk Pavilion Amphitheatre, pictured below. They're celebrating the official opening of the Jacksonville area beaches. There'll be a sandcastle contest, a parade, plenty of food and drink, THE BEACH and of course, MUSIC--Forrest's style :) For more information, check out the City of Jacksonville Beach's website at http://www.jacksonvillebeach.org/Pages/tourism/calendar_of_events2002_1.htm Jacksonville Beach's Sea Walk Pavilion Amphitheatre Don't pack up your beach towel and go home just yet! After playing at Jacksonville Beach, Forrest and his band will be heading on down the road to Melbourne, Florida, where they will headline the Melbourne Art Festival in historic downtown Melbourne. The show starts at 9:30 p.m., and it should be a searing showcase of Forrest's white hot guitar. South Florida is absolutely gorgeous at this time of year. Don't you just want to BE THERE? For more information on the Melbourne Art Festival, visit http://www.melbournearts.org As always, the latest CD release, Finger Lickin' Blues, will be available at the shows. Hope someone can tape this show....I'll offer up a stack of blank DATS to anyone who can send me the show... Thanks, Lens
From: Matt Urban <bobtoobn@yepatata.com> Subject: FT / B&P: Paul McCartney 4-16-02 Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 10:33:40 -0400 Thanks to some wonderful generosity and unbelievably quick turnaround (thanks Chris!) I'm in possession of a copy of the Paul McCartney show from Philadelphia. It's a stellar recording, recorded from the seventh row (mk4v>sx-m2>sbm1(w/ 24 bit mod)>d100). 174 minutes. To forward the generosity and to help pass on this wonderful show, I'm offering this show up for trade / B&P for the first TEN people to respond. To make things fair, I'll save three spots for digesters (just send me a digest header to verify this). Even if you send a list, be prepared that I just may ask for B&P to keep it simple. This will be quick, as I'd like to get this all complete and everything mailed by wed. next week, so if you want in, act fast! -- -matt
From: "American-Digital" <dan@am-dig.com> Subject: RE: Netflix Reply-To: "American-Digital" <dan@am-dig.com> Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 11:40:38 -0400 I have received over 125 DVDs from Netflix so far. I haven't had a problem with a single DVD. They have all played perfectly, not a single hiccup that I can remember. I am not saying you have a poor DVD player a broken DVD player or just really bad luck...I have no idea. But I have owned 1st generation DVD players and cheap ones. Buying a quality DVD player makes a BIG difference. Cheap, 1st generation or poorly functioning DVD players have HUGE problems when the laser goes from one layer to the next. It seems like a skip or a jump, but is really a sign that the DVD player is beat. Plus, if the DVD surface visually looks fine, it probably is fine. My experience with Netflix has been amazing. My average price paid for a DVD rental is just under $3.50. Not a single late fee and I don't have to pickup or drop off any movies. Bye, bye Blockbogus with your overpriced rentals, hideous late fees and miniscule collection of white bread movies. > From: Keith Bode <t.tunakebo@verizon.net> > Subject: Netflix > Date: Thu, 25 Apr 2002 00:34:39 -0700 > > I was given a fairly decent single disc Sony DVD Player for my Birthday, > which will be in a few weeks.......anyway, it had the Netflix free month > advertising on the box. From: "Gary Davis" <gdavisloop@earthlink.net> Subject: Panasonic DMR-E20 DVD-Video recorder just $594 ! Reply-to: gdavisloop@earthlink.net Date: Fri, 26 Apr 2002 16:57:02 -0700 Price drop on Panasonic's excellent stand-alone DVD Video recorder. Works just like a VCR but records on DVD-R and DVD- RAM discs. DVD-R discs play back on most standard DVD players. DVD-RAM discs allow random-access editing (like having your own Avid at home). Record a TV show - cut out the commercials - and play it back continuously! Copy your camcorder tapes - define the scenes - and play them back in any order! You can record 2 hours of near-perfect video (better than SVHS), or up to 6 hours in VHS quality, on DVD-R discs. Apple sells these discs for just $5 each and I've also seen "generic" discs that work well for as little as $3. This model has all standard VCR features like cable-ready tuner, 8-event timer, VCR+Plus, wireless remote control. 3 sets of Video/SVideo/stereo audio inputs, and it's also a full-function DVD player with Dolby Digital and DTS outputs. This model is $999 in Circuit City right now, but we have them brand new for just $594! Full Panasonic warrantee and all credit cards accepted. We ship anywhere at our cost (no markup on shipping). For more info, email: gdavisloop@earthlink.net or phone The DAT Store at (818) 344-6718, 11am-5pm, Mon-Fri, Pacific time (sorry - closed on weekends). Thank you, --Gary

From: "Thomas Avallone" <tav2367@msn.com> Subject: CSNY 4/25 Chicago is ready Date: Sat, 27 Apr 2002 00:42:32 +0000 I recorded the 4/25 CSNY show in Chicago with excellent results - so if anyone has any Chris Cornell, Sheryl Crow, Garbage, or PJ Harvey shows I don't have, I would love to trade for them - (But I do have an extensive list of those artists). If not, I will offer a few B&P's for them - But I can't accept too many because it is a 3 disk show (sorry, I can't supply DATs) - and I don't have LOTS of time, but I do want to share this show because it turned out THAT good.
