Hi,
I'm looking for a clone of U2 at the Pepsi Center in Denver from April,
2001. I'm specifically looking for this source:
MHBO 603/KA200 (cardioid) > Lunatec V2 pre-amp > Benchmark Sonic AD2K+
24-bit > Sony C1VN laptop (Inside The Heart)
Any help greatly appreciated. I do have a clone of this show, but it
suffers from drop outs around 1h 45m.

This standalone unit is in mint condition and has been a workhorse for me on
the road and in the studio. I am a touring engineer and my clients and I
have been extremely happy with its performance. Audio is stored on an
internal hardrive (16bit, 44.1k) from which you can later burn mutiple
copies. Also has digital (s/pdif) I/O for DAT interface. Stores up to 240
minutes of stereo audio. 2RU with rack ears. Intuitive soft keys let you
easily navigate through menus. From front of house I usually ran a pair of
mics mixed with a soundboard feed, offset with a delay for coherence which
produced outstanding results.

Subject: Portable power for the Inbox and/or PS-1a
Date: Tue, 30 Apr 2002 22:33:21 -0400
Someone was asking about powering these a while back. Since they both
like 9v, you can't easily use an SLA. I use a Radio Shack 9.6v Turbo
Racing Battery Pack and charger. Yes, they actually call them Turbo.
These are readily available, small (about half the size of an Inbox)
easy to use and pretty reasonably priced. There's even a charger model
that is AC and can plug into a car battery. Mine setup is pretty old so
I am using one 600mAh and one 900mAh (this was called High-Capacity)
NiCd, the newer ones are much nicer 1600 mAh NiMH's (Model:230-0331,
$24.99).
I usually run them one set each, but have tested them at home to over 8
hours each. BTW, I only use these to run my Inbox. For power supplies
I have the older PS-1's, not PS-1a's. On the PS-1a Mike Denecke added
1/8" trs power socket, similar to the one on the Inbox. I have no idea
whether the PS-2's have this power socket, but if they do, you'd simply
have to wire a molex connector to two cables that each have an 1/8" trs
plugs, rather than the one that I use for my Inbox. The female
connector you need (Tyco®, Nikko®) to connect to the battery are
available through places like allied electronics and digikey. I haven't
checked in a long time, but Radio Shack may even sell them now. I know
they didn't use to sell the RC connector size. I remember finding those
connectors to be a large part of the challenge to building the battery
pack, and they were not all that hard to find. I'm using rechargeable
Maha 9v's in my PS-1's. Again, call me anal, but I use these for one
set each. They bench test to much! longer than that. I like going into
a show knowing that each battery will last twice as long as I need it,
and that if that battery croaks (or jumps out of my bag or who knows
what), I have another that can do the same. Since these batteries are
so relatively small, I am afforded that option.
Hope this helps, if anyone wants to discuss details about any of this
drop me a line.
Alan
PS look and ye shall find. I went and looked around the RS site and
sure enough, they sell the connectors. It's a male/female set, RC 9.6V
Battery Pack Connector Repair Kit $1.99 Reg. Price Brand: RadioShack
Cat.#: 23-445 Model: 23-445. All you need is something to wire it to
and a crimper. I personally prefer just the connector and putting my
own wire to it, but if all else fails, these will work.

I have had trouble finding DAT media locally in the Seattle area (at least
at a resonable price). First I have a Sony M1, and I only plan on using
these DATs for recording the shows...(not trading).....What brands have you
sony users have the best success? Are the 184 minute tapes (masterdat)
totally usable? Where are good places online to get tapes? I havnt seen this
discussion for a while, and the FAQ is not specific to my needs... Online or
offline..your choice..THANKS!!

I have made the jump to the 21st century(finally have my own PC). I would
like to start using it for burning DIGITAL Cdr.'s from DATs, editing(no more
"on the fly" standalone tracks) and maybe some remixing or boosting. If
anyone has some time, could you drop me an email and enlighten me to what
software/hardware should I be using for doing this? It would be much
appreciated. I have the following below.
Genuine Intel Pentium 450Mhz computer.
Parts include:
450Mhz / 512 cache Intel CPU
Intel SE440BX-2 motherboard (upgradeable to 850Mhz CPU)
4.2 Gig SCSI harddrive and controller
128Meg RAM
Compaq CD-ROM drive
video, sound, 56K v90 modem
floppy drive, key board, mouse, speakers
Full Tower ATX case (this is big 24.5 inches tall, lots of space for
expansion)

Hey folks --
According to BTAT (http://btat.wagnerone.com), Wilco allows aud
recording. But, there are two statements referenced - one (undated)
that it's a "no see/no enforce" policy, the other (dated 12/3/01) that
they freely allow it.
If you've taped this tour - did you have to stealth or could you tape
openly?
I'm hoping to tape tonight in Cleveland at the Agora, but I probably
won't bother if I have to stealth.
Thanks...

I'm listening to Howard Stern and he's talking about it. Apparently he
played 99% old Beatles and wings tunes. If someone did tape it I'd love to
get my hands on it.
Thanks,
Steve
It is my understanding all of these shows were the pretty much the same. The
same songs, similar comments between. A good recording of Philadelphia is
all over the place (a lot of people on this list have it already), as is a
Chicago show or two. I heard Howard talking up the show also. He was
right. It was a great show. And the songs he named were the same we saw, in
the same orders. He forgot a few though.

Hi all,
I'm new to using DATs. I recently acquired a sony DTC-A7 from a friend who is in pro audio. It has less than 30 hours on the heads. my question is this, I'm using it mostly to master to and to make back-ups. How does the sound quality of a DDS tape differ from a DAT? I've read a lot about dealers sellling DDS as better, but what is everyone's opinion?
Thanks for reading this!
