From: "Edwin T. Pankau" <edpankau@yahoo.com> Subject: Best digital sound card for XP machine? Date: Fri, 10 May 2002 11:25:59 -0700 (PDT) I am in the market for a sound card that can handle digital input and work well under XP. I already have a SoundBlaster Live Platinum in my machine to handle my everyday playing of music, but I don't have a way of transfering my DAT's onto my hard disk digitally. I have a Zefiro ZA-2 in my old computer, but from what I gather, this doesn't work in XP. Please send any experiences/suggestions (good or bad) my way: e.pankau@sportsmedia.com Thanks, Ed __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! From: "Matt" <matt@mattb.net> Subject: Juan L Sanchez Ensemble Date: Fri, 10 May 2002 12:27:16 -0600 Is anyone familiar with these guys? They are coming to my sleepy little town and I think I may want to tape it. Anyone know what their stance on taping is? All I can find about them with a Google search is a little snippet on a college web site where they once played: The music of the Juan L. Sánchez Ensemble is rooted in the Nueva Canción (Spanish/Latin American New Folk) but incorporates rhythmic and melodic nuances that can be traced to contemporary urban Jazz, Flamenco fusion and Middle-Eastern music. This kaleidoscope of musical genres gives life to the impassioned word of Juan L. Sánchez, and that of 20th Century Spanish and Latin American poets, such as Lorca or Neruda. Which sounds pretty interesting, but pretty vague. Anyone know more? Thanks! Matt
From: Vinesh Narayan <Vinesh@netcom.ca> Subject: New source U2 83/84/87 shows for trade Date: Fri, 10 May 2002 11:49:01 -0700 My friend who taped the 1983 and 1987 Vancouver U2 shows has made available to me his masters to transfer to the digital medium and I am no offering these for trade. The 1983 Vancouver show has NEVER been available for trade and the 1987 one was not traded within U2 trading circles. It may have been sent to 2 people at the most according to the taper. This appears to be a different source than the 1987 show that is in circulation. Very good recordings-both of them. Also, just discovered another "new" U2 show gathering dust in my collection--what I believe is a new source of 11/14/84 London. I obtained this in a trade for another bands shows and the taper let me know that he had not traded his version before. . As with my 83/87 new Vancouver masters, I welcome trade offers for this show! I prefer rarer 84-87/Elevation shows in trade or the very few Zep shows I don't have... Vinesh

Reads like a New Age approach to Nueva Cancion, by professional musicians. So you might expect something like Darol Anger/Mike Marshall playing BG (not electric) if that helps. The clips sound more heavily influenced by european styles than Cancion (which tried to go back to more indig roots in both lyrics and music) normally, but its not a full set to listen to. Personally I would rather get the chance to Inti-Illumani, but or Cancion/Trova with sparser instrumentation... or Mercedes Sosa. However, anyone who takes a guitarron out on tour is ok in my book. If you run it, let me know. If anyone else has cancion/trova, salsa... brazilian... let me know also. Sean [la g. que habla espanol, desculpame porque no hay acentos en el 'digest']
From: "Jeff Ishaq" <j.ishaq@verizon.net> Subject: Advice on selling a DAT collection? Reply-To: <Jeff.Ishaq@uvm.edu> Date: Fri, 10 May 2002 14:57:11 -0400 Hey everybody. I have a collection of about 400 DATs I'd like to sell. I've seen people offer up their entire collections at once, and I've seen people break the DATs down into blocks. Can someone who's gone down this road give me some advice? Heck, I'm even open to wild speculation from people who have not! My collection is Phish-centric (85%, I'd say), with very little Dead, and lots of really ecclectic stuff (Yngwie Malmsteen, Frank Zappa, Depeche Mode, Al DiMeola...) Oh yeah, and there are some very rare and uncirculated Phish DATs in there too. Some questions I've got are: 1) Are there really people who buy entire collections? 2) When arranging into blocks, how do you pick which shows to include? 3) I'm not looking to make a killing. I'd rather stoke a newbie, and recover a fraction of my blank media expenses over the years. I'd be happy to get $0.50 per DAT, is that realistic? Thanks for your time. Have a great weekend! -Jeff Ishaq

My setup: Oktava MC012 > PS2 > AD-20 > DA-P1 I've got the DAP1 in a Porta-brace, but I don't think that's gonna do me too much good in a solid, afternoon, Colorado rainstorm. Obviously, I want to protect everything and would like a solution that would allow me to tape while it's raining. I'll consider everything from trash bags to "commercial" solutions. Please email me b/c at sweets@rootgroup.com and I'll summarize to the list. Trey and Panic are coming to Red Rocks and I wanna be ready! I would love to get a clean copy of it (in original SHN format if that exists). I have tons to trade, including Beatlejam 3/14/02 and a FLAWLESS copy of 1/17/02 (both sources I received of this show had small dropouts/flaws and I combined them to create a version with no errors). (This mechanism also slows down folks responding with whole digests quoted.) It is something I could consider changing, I don't particularly have a bias either way, but might lean to how it currently is unless there was sentiment otherwise.
