I'm switching to a usb based system and wish to part with my perfectly
working ZA2. Comes with the manual, updated driver disk and breakout
cable. $100 ono (cost 3-400 a few years ago). Note: this is an ISA
card...you will need an ISA slot to use it.

I got a pretty good recording of Garbage from The Riviera in Chicago, and
I'm seeking other Garbage recordings from this recent tour. CDR only - but
will accept shows on DAT for trade (which I will trade double).

Is anyone taping her on her current tour? I imagine it will need to be
stealthed, and I don't think I'm going to be able to make it (maybe...). I'd
love to hear how she's sounding these days. I have an old radio appearance
from an analog master and a unknown sourced sbd-sounding "Europe 96" bootleg
if anyone's interested in trading for whatever new stuff you've taped.

Did anyone happen to tape the Mike Keneally broadcast on the Netherlands
NPS?
Here is a clip from The San Diego Union-Tribune (Sunday - May 12, 2002):
<<. . .LOCAL GUITAR LEGEND GETS DUTCH STAR STATUS
By George Varga, Pop Music Critic
Mike Keneally is a local legend thanks to his collaborations with such
music luminaries as Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Robert Fripp and Screamin' Jay
Hawkins.
But the San Diego guitar wiz is a national presence in the Netherlands,
where NPS (the Dutch equivalent of National Public Radio) will devote five
hours of nonstop programming today to Keneally and his music on its
national 4FM outlet. The commercial-free special, "Mike Keneally Nite,"
will feature two concerts in their entirety that he and his band performed
last fall in the Netherlands, plus 90 minutes of interview segments.
San Diego fans can hear today's broadcast - 80 percent of which will be in
English - on the Web (at http://www.nps.nl/4fm), beginning at 11 a.m.
[Pacific Time]. . .>>
If you taped any portion of this - I would be interested in a copy.
Please contact off-list.
thanks,
Steve Wren

Hey people
Very last minute, but can anybody tpae The Cranes who will perform at Amoeba
tonight (Monday) in San Francisco around 6pm? I have some last-minute stuff I
have to take care of tonight, and can't go. Also they play at Slim's with
opening badn on Tuesday, can anyone tape both artists?
I'm not really a Cranes fan but have some first/second gen tapes from analog
master of their early '90s shows, as well as my own analog masters of
Ride/slowdive (1992) plus loads other
britpop/shoegaze/deathmetal/grunge/boyband/overallshit music available for
trade etc.
Also are there any freeware for copying VCD with an Imac computer? And for an
imac, is Toast best for copying cdr, or is there another program to use that
is free?
I also have several b/p people sent to me, many thanks and I need more time
to finish your b/p, but I did warn 1 to 450 (or was it 150?) days
leadtime/etc. I'm trying to finish up on trades first, out of fairness.
Thanks a million everyone!
Cheers

I hate posting Bad trades but It happened to me
I got ripped by this guy from Vancouver Canada, who
ripped me on a DAT trade in January 2002..... here is
the story!
Its not worth mentioning who it is, but is an active
member of the DAT heads board.
Set up a 3 DAT trade, sent him, he recived, and after
2 months I asked him about my part of the deal and he
responded:
"I dont remember exactly but they should be there soon
. no reg # you didnt send registered so neither did I"
This is complete lie!
I sent registered!
I kindly told him, for a deadline to recive my tapes,
(his part of the deal) otherwise please re-tape them
and this time re-send them registered.
His answer was:
"send me your address
I'm not re cloning the tapes however i'm returning the
ones you sent.
ONE - has digi noise @ the start
THE OTHER is on LP and as such is useless I cant trade
an lp tape
and finally the THIRD tape I didnt bother with . I'll
send them registered to ensure they arrive."
Basically he tells me that my tapes suck!
If my tapes are that bad, he listed them in his trade
site as excellent?
The Guy cloned my tapes and re-sent them back to me
I didnt got anything in return!
Just my story............
Ed :-)

We were first on line and the early show was sold out, so we took what
we could get, which was two late show tickets. We're too old to stay up that
late, so we want to trade for early show for the same night. We can hook up
in NYC or in Essex County, NJ. Carl Mink

Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 17:54:21 -0600
Thanks to all who responded! Here's a synopsis:
First, you must decide if it's really worth taping in a
big storm. More than one person sent me a message saying
they learned their lesson the hard way - they fried
their equipment while "taping in wetness". And they
will not be taping in the rain ever again (understandably).
For those intrepid souls who are lucky enough to not have
had that happen, the answers were varied. Everything from
lawn/leaf bags (thick ones, no plain garbage bags was the
main recommendation - and double bag in case of tears), camping=20
tarps (even in a teepee setup around the mic stand!), and dry
bags (the kind made for kayaking or canoeing). Bring lots
of tape to seal the bag around the cable.
As far as mics, most people seem to use the stroller
umbrellas. I think they can be picked up relatively cheap
at Toys R Us or stores like that. Got some warnings about
these too - they can make your stand airborn in a good wind
so be sure to tape/secure your stand. One person said they
have never heard the raindrops hitting the umbrella except
when the band wasn't playing. Others said the rain was
noise was evident on their tapes. YMMV. Some people
wrap their mic bodies in plastic/saran wrap - one person
recommended using condoms (unlubricated, of course!). Most
said they used over-size windscreens for the caps, if they
mentioned mics at all.
Me? If it's raining hard on the way in, I'm probably just
gonna bag taping and dance. If the rain hits during the
show, I'm gonna go with the dry bag, saran wrap, windscreens,
and umbrella(s). And, hopefully, I'll never have to find
out how it works. :-)

Subject: Weird clipping levels
Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 23:15:14 -0600
I've made a few recordings recently where the sound has clipped lower
then I expect it to. Typically 2 or 3 db down from 0. I haven't
changed any of the settings on my DAT (a PCM-M1). The first time I
thought I might have set the filter switch on the mic, so I chalked
it up to operator error.
Now I'm looking at recordings made with a pair of core sounds clip-on
mics, and there isn't any switches I could screw up.
The first few songs were recorded a little high, and clipping occurs
on the peaks as I'd expect, particularly on the audience applause.
After I turned the level down, the recording sounds much better, but
whenever I get up to around -2 or -3 db, it starts clipping. This is
lower then where it was clipping on the earlier part of the tape.
The waveforms of the first few songs go all the way up to 0 db, while
the waveforms on the later songs never get above roughly -3 db and
will clip there. This is particularly frustrating as my levels look
ok on the display but my recording sounds crummy.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?
If I overdrive things at the beginning, does it somehow affect
recording levels for the rest of the recording? (That doesn't sound
right to me.)
One other thing that is different from previous recordings is that I
was re-using tapes. They'd only been recorded on once. It's hard for
me to imagine how that would impact anything though.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
neal

recently hit the power button on my DA-P1 only to have
the lid pop open and the power button stop working. No
matter what I try, the lid won't latch - the only way
to turn it off is to switch the charge/operate or hold
the power button for several seconds. when i turn it
on now, a quiet whirring issues constantly from within
only to change to a high squeal after 15+ seconds. it
won't recognize any tape.
anyone experienced similar problems????? i'm greatly
at a loss without the bloody thing.
many thanks for any help,

Hello,
I'm looking for a kind soul whose NPR station airs World Cafe, and can tape
Paul Kelly's performance on that show. It's scheduled to air on 15 May 2002.
Also, I'm looking to get my hands on any other Paul Kelly performances. I
taped his performance in San Francisco last month, but the tape came out
pretty badly (my deck has been in storage for more than a year, I used it
without testing it first -- I know, I know, bad taper!). If anyone is
really desperate for it, and no-one else taped, I'll convert it to CD and
trade it out. Otherwise, I'll be happy to do a B&P or trade for other
material.
Thanks in advance. :)
