Or does anyone know how to fix them themselves? The unit powers up fine, the transport works fine, all functions seem normal until you go into record! the unit inputs a level (adjustable) without anything plugged into it? you also cannot hear anything from the outputs? I am only interested in blank DATs-sony or maxells 60m-or shows on disc. I would like to trade 3 discs for every two dats, show for a show. I am putting priority on trading all at once. I am looking for moe. and Phish mainly. I am looking for new SCI only, but not any WSP. I am willing to do a split trade of dats and cds. New on this list, and pretty new to live taping, but long time radio engineer with _some_ savvy. I would very much appreciate any feedback on the relative merits of the Sony PCM-M1 and the Tascam DA-P1. I've used the M1, but goofed due to short time to learn about it before taping. I've seen the P1, and kinda like the full size, pro-type connectors and larger meters and controls. What do y'all think?? Thanks! Bob

From: "Vince Horst" <vincehorst@hotmail.com> Subject: ISO: Guided By Voices recordings Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 10:42:58 -0500 Greetings all. I am looking to find some GBV recordings. I've seen them live once and am planning to tape their upcoming show in Minneapolis, MN. I've read that there is someone out there that has a soundboard copy of the 2 shows that GBV played in Minne in 2001. I'd love to find those 2 shows (and the one that I went to in earlier 2002, obviously). Contact me offline with any info that you may have. BWT: B&P of any one Zwan show. Billy Corgan's new band. From: ChopCG@aol.com Subject: Apex DVD Players Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 14:14:04 EDT Hi all, This is a bit off topic, but I remember reading a discussion a while back about an Apex DVD player that can play DVD's encoded for other regions as well as do some other neat tricks that consumer models are typically not supposed to do. Does anyone know the model number of that DVD player and if its still available? If not, are there any other DVD players on the market that can do the same thing? Thanks, Chris
From: FHudetz@aol.com Subject: Any ideas? Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 14:33:19 EDT Last night after taping a show, I ran into a debacle. Basically, everything but the encore was not there. When I played the tape on the D7, first the "PGM NO" is blinking, then 01 shows up in the PGM NO display. Then finally the encore comes on about 3/4 through the tape and sounds great. The encore is shown as 02 in the PGM NO. This is the first time I have ever seen something in this section of the DAT. When the encore plays "LP" shows up as well. Now, I know tape was rolling during the whole show, and that it was peaking around 12 db. I paused the tape during the spot between the last song and the encore. Could I have inadvertently switched on the LP function before the encore, thereby erasing the whole show before it, is this possible? Anyone have any idea what happened. here? Thanks, Tim

From: Dave C <dlc-dat@halibut.com> Subject: eco-charge "4.5V cable"? Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 13:56:14 -0700 Greets, I just picked up a used eco-charge bp-50 plus charger. I was hoping to use it to power my M1 (4.5V) in addition to the preamp (MP-2, using 6V) that I got it with. But my guess that the four-pin DIN connectors meant one pin for each cell...was incorrect. So does the "4.5V cable" that eco-charge charges $25.00 for simply have a regulator IC stuffed in the XLR? Or is there a regulator built into the cap on the BP-50 that can be used by strapping certain pins? (I tried to pull out one of the female XLRs but it wouldn't come out more than 1/4" or so.) I don't really want to pay $25.00 for a cable that probably won't be the ideal lenght, if I can get around it; I'd rather make my own. If I can't figure this out, I may just go ahead and stuff a regulator inside an XLR and make my own. tnx...

From: "steven wolf" <scwolf73@hotmail.com> Subject: XLR or 1/8" Cable Question...MP-2 Users...Please Help a Taping Newbie Date: Wed, 15 May 2002 20:48:49 -0400 Im so confused... My rig is going to be the following setup Microtech Gefell M210 (hypers)>MP-2>DA-P1 I have the usual XLR>XLR to go from mics to Pre But what is the best to use w/ the MP-2 to go to the P1 Ive heard conflicting stories about using the 1/8" Stero>RCA vs going XLR>XLR from the Pre>P1... All this stuff about the cables carrying more gain and unbalanced vs balanced cables... Can Someone PLEASE give me a low down on this I hear the Gefells run hot..And I KNOW the MP-2 does too I've heard so many differing opinions and dont know what to make of them all... For example 1) "The line in XLR on the DA-P1 is +4 dBu referenced and RCA is -10 dBu. Even with the MP-2 at it's lowest gain you could have too hot a signal for the -10 dBu referenced input which would require you to lower the rec level on the DA-P1. XLR in on the DA-P1 handles a much hotter signal." Wouldnt this be a good thing considering my MG210's are HOT and the MP-2 can run Hot as well?? 2) Your point about the -4dbu vs. +10dbu is a good one, but keep in mind that the XLR outs of the MP2 are 10dbu hotter than the mini out. So if you compare XLR>XLR or mini>RCA, the difference of using the RCAs on the P1 is only 4dbu, not 14dbu. With this small difference, I wouldn't imagine that the REC knob would be set too much lower using the RCAs. I know on the MP2 that the XLR out runs the signal through an additional 6 transistors, not sure about the P1. Oiy..Contradictions..And what the hell are Transistors??? 3) In addition lets not forget why balanced cables were created. Unbalanced cables are susceptible to noise and ground loops where the scheme for balanced cables is capable of removing noise and assuring a clean signal transfer. English...Anyone :) 4) I believe that using the minijack gives you a minimum 6db gain and the XLRs give you a minimum 16db gain. I almost exclusively tape loud concerts and I use very minimal gain on the MP-2 (5db max); sometimes I don't need any gain at all. The 210s are HOT mics! With an extra 10db of gain with the XLRs, it may be better to use the -10db pads on the mics if you are taping a loud show. I never tape bluegrass or anything like that so I don't know what settings you would use if you tape softer or unamplified music. More about this gain in the cables Can someone please explain that? Opinions Please Im dying to hear some Thanx so much in advance Sorry for being a dumbass about this Steve _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

I'm trying to record from my M1 to my Audiophile 2496 soundcard using the 7 pin coaxial cable. I have been doing this since last November without any problems. Now when I record to the hard drive (using Cool Edit Pro) I get a lot of pops and clicks after about 5 minutes of recording. I've tried reinstalling the software, took the card out, put it back in. Nothing seems to work. Has anybody had this problem or can offer me a solution. I am using XP, have plenty of hard drive space, etc. Thanks. ===== =====bretthttp://www.geocities.com/bklowman __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? LAUNCH - Your Yahoo!
