Subject: REPORTED "VIRUS" IS A HOAX!
Date: Thu, 16 May 2002 20:43:40 -0400
For the benefit of a few mailing lists that I am subscribed to:-
Can you spell HOAX?
Making the rounds is an InterNet HOAX that reports a "virus" called
jdbgmgr.exe and tells you to search your computer and delete it if you find
it... and everyone WILL FIND IT because it is a Windows System file, and
it should not be removed. In the past few days, I have received three of
these from well meaning individuals who forwarded it to everyone in their
address book!
A little advice...
WHENEVER YOU GET SOMETHING URGING YOU TO SEND IT TO EVERYONE IN YOUR ADDRESS
BOOK, IT IS PROBABLY A HOAX... RESEARCH IT FIRST!
By forwarding this to everyone in your address book, YOU BECOME THE VIRUS,
and you have then been "had" by a known internet hoax.
Look at this link for all the dirty details:-
http://www.datafellows.com/hoaxes/jdbgmgr.shtml
I've sent this link to all the listed potential suckers in the emails
I received! If you have received this HOAX and already forwarded it to
others, PLEASE do them all a favor and send this to them also.
It is a standard windows file and should not be deleted if you want
Windows to operate properly.

Yeah Chris; it was about two years ago Gary Davis pointed out that the (now
no longer sold) Apex AD-600A had a secret menu. You could shut the
macrovision off, change the region, make it region-free, and have the unit
play either NTSC or PAL. I have one; it sucks. The player is very slow to
load a disc, groans alot, cannot react to quick track advances (it seizes up
like a 20 year old overweight bassett hound).
There are a bunch of DVD players that will play the movies in PAL just by
pushing a button (usually found on the remote control). That's no big deal.
Region-free machines are sold on E Bay daily. But be warned; it seems that a
bunch of region1 DVDs will NOT play properly on these region-free units.
As for DVD player swith Macrovision off, Apex released a machine called the
AD-1500. With a bit of hunting, it CAN be found in WalMarts and some
electronic stores (Walk around the store; sometimes you can find a display
unit and buy it). You can flash its ROM with a downloaded file burned onto a
CDR which shuts the Macrovision. IF you find this unit, the serial number
MUST begin with A, B, C, or D but not SV. You cant flash the SV units. Of
course you can find them on E Bay too. Good luck.

American Analog Set is going on a short US/Euro tour, and I want any
recordings I can get. I heard that the band is kuput after this, since
the lead singer and songwriter will be starting graduate school at
Columbia this fall, and obviously won't have time to keep in touch with
his bandmates in Austin. Please, please, please tape them. The band is
completely pro taping. I have talked with the singer Kenny before, and
gotten sbd patches in the past. I also traded with a guy who taped them
with a full rig, so there shouldn't be any problems there. I'll pay for
your ticket, batteries, and blanks if necessary. The known tour dates

For what its worth, I wanted to make a few points.
- There are a variety of other DVD players, other than Apex, which
scan support some of the mentioned additional features via loopholes
or downloading new firmware, the latter being required on most today
and tends to void your warrantee.
- These features are convenient, but before jumping whole-hog into
such recorders, make sure those are what is most important to you.
As noted warrantees could be an issue, if you burn your own media
these may not have equal compatability. Lastly, as someone mentioned,
there can be problems with region-1 encoded discs.
- If possible you should watch discs on the players because picture
quality can vary.
I have both a Sampo and Pioneer. Were I to have to choose only
one it would very clearly be the Pioneer. The Sampo overall has
a lot more features (more technical than hidden) which I use regularly,
but for 90% of what I do the Pioneer is just a better player and quality
is what this is all about. I have also found that many discs I thought
or were said to be were region-4, are really region-0 at least for today.

Greetings,
Just letting any Atlanta-area heads know that Active Ingredients
(www.activeingredients.net) is playing tonight at Buffalo's, starting at
around 7 pm and going until 11 pm. Buffalo's is located at 2550 Sandy
Plains Road in NE Marietta. Their number is 770-579-9464.
On a related note, I have not recieved any responses from anyone taping
Scottypaluza next weekend. If anyone is willing to miss the Allmighty
Senators and instead tape the Active Ingredients set, I will be able to
provide a back-stage pass (comes in real handy in the rain, especially for
tapers), tapes, batteries, and a board patch (so there's no risk of getting
anything wet). Please respond offlist at jah420@bellsouth.net if you are
the kind soul I'm looking for.
For taking up so much space, I will take 10 people for BnP of the 3-16-02
Active Ingredients / Deep Banana Blackout shows. AI played 1 set, followed
by 2 sets of DBB; the whole night fits on 4 cds and was taped using Schoeps
CMC5s w/MK41 caps > Lunatec V2 > Soundpals ADC-20 > Fostex D5...winners
notified.
Thanks again for the space, and may the force be with all of you, always.

Yesterday, it was brought to my attention that the prices posted on
certain retailers' websites for new MBHOs (prices I'd relied upon in
determining a price for these year old MBHOs) do not accurately reflect
the "street price" of this setup new. Thus, I've adjusted my asking
price to what I view as a fair discount below the going rate for a new
setup.
Here's what you'll get for $1,050, shipped to your door (shipping within
continental US).
2 MBHO 603a Microphone Bodies (Matched Pair, Serial Numbers 110 and
111) with Active Cables and mic capsule clips
2 KA 200 Cardiod Capsules (Matched Pair)
2 Mic Boxes
Mics, cables & capsules are in like-new condition. Original owner,
purchased new spring 2001. Digital Photographs available.
This is an excellent system for making unobtrusive (fob/stealth)
recordings-the exposed capsules/active cables are of the same form
factor as the far costlier schoeps/Neumann/b&k setups.
Shifting priorities require us to change the rig a bit......
