I've traveled several times since 9/11, and aside from assiduous-looking checks, there's been no trouble. I'm always singled out for search (bearded as I am, and carrying all my recording stuff in a backpack). Last time, one very slow-witted agent checked each bag carefully, checking one bag twice and another not at all. Very secure. Gives me great confidence in the process and satisfaction for all those extra fees tacked on to my ticket. Dennis ------------------------------ From: Greg Teltschik Subject: Re: Airline Travel with Taper Equiptment? Date: Sat, 18 May 2002 23:42:10 +0000 Matt, I travel all the time, and have on many occasions had my taping gear with me. Besides a greater chance of getting stopped at the security checkpoint to inspect all the electronics (usually pretty cursory), I've had no problems. Recently, I purchased a Pelican case to carry all my equipment. I can carry it on, but it's also good to check if I want to. I also feel much safer having everything in it's own place surrounded in foam - I used to just throw it all in a backpack and hope something didn't break. If you don't mind carrying something the size of a briefcase (I got the 1500), it's a good deal. I actually carry 2 Sony DATs, 2 SBM-1s, my Schoeps mics (pair in the wooden box), the phantom power supply, and all the various cables, shock mounts, etc. in the case with about 25% of the space still empty. It's very easy to know if I have everything put away at the end of a show, since every space should be filled. I`d like to give this show to some friends of mine who attended the concert. They told me Miles & Co. were three hours late that night (plane trouble), but made up for it with a great show. Also looking for Miles at the Roseland, Portland, 1990?. I'd like to set up a few trades for it. I'd STRONGLY prefer getting stuff from the current tour in return, but will consider other stuff(indie rock, classic rock, etc). Please respond privately. Its on 2 CD-Rs; sorry, I don't have it on DAT. I do'nt know what to do. I am afraid to read any of them. Right now, I must close the McCartney b/p. If I can confidently imac=clone then I'll offer more b/p next millenium. In the meantime don't despair, I know many other kids also got Matt's b/p and will probably make a similar offer. Also does anyone have any good live STEPS for trade? I still am interested. Not receiving any trade offers the last time I asked about live STEPS was the last thing on my mind. Date: Sun, 19 May 2002 10:16:46 -0400 >Has anyone traveled by airline with their taping gear recently? Have they >had any problems getting their gear on the plane either as a carry on or by >checking it? I've travelled from NYC's La Guardia to Florida and back several times on both USAir and Delta Air since 9-11 with a Sony D-100, stealth mics, earphones, batteries... in a case with a laptop. Each time they made me take the laptop out of the shoulder bag before they went into the X-Ray machine, but showed no interest at all in the taping stuff. I DID see them give some little old ladies a rough time because one had manicure scissors, one had little sewing scissors and one had some clam opening utensil. They made each take them back to the luggage check-in, where they put them in a special bag and send along with checked luggage. In other words, it's all time consuming mickey-mouse for which a new security charge is added to every air ticket. The place that security should really start is at the visa offices for those coming to the USA. Jumping off soap-box with apologies for the rant. ------------------------------ From: Jeff Holmgren Subject: Using a Laptop for Recording Date: Sun, 19 May 2002 10:21:19 -0500 > > anyone use a laptop for recording..if you can help out a newbie please > drop me a line.. > thanx, > -jeff ------------------------------ From: "Joe XXIV" Subject: FT:Extra copy of HORNSBY 4/12/96 SBD Date: Sun, 19 May 2002 14:11:09 -0400 Extra copy of Bruce Hornsby at the Fillmore 4/12/96 SBD Trade only. ------------------------------ From: =?iso-8859-1?q?John=20Barnes?= Subject: Rock Am Ring Date: Sun, 19 May 2002 19:59:51 +0100 (BST) I have got from this weekends Rock Am Ring in Germany, the Neil Young,Santana,Counting Crows and Natalie Merchant sets. They were recorded directly to audio CDR from digital satellite.Looking for trades.Looking for Norah Jones,Lucy Kaplansky Diana Krall and Nickel Creek 2002 shows (and just about any other really) Thanks John __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
