From: LJM65@aol.com Subject: reunion Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 19:27:19 EDT just in the off chance somebody didn't see this FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TERRAPIN STATION - A GRATEFUL DEAD FAMILY REUNION TO TAKE PLACE AUGUST 3RD AND 4TH AT WISCONSIN'S ALPINE VALLEY New York NY - May 21, 2002 - Almost seven years to the day after the Grateful Dead's last show ever, all surviving members of the original band - Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir - will reunite as The Other Ones for Terrapin Station, a Grateful Dead Family Reunion. Taking place Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday August 4th at East Troy Wisconsin's Alpine Valley Music Theatre, Terrapin Station will not only mark the first time all four members are performing together since 1995, it will also celebrate the music, art, and culture of the Grateful Dead. A two-day event, Terrapin Station will feature two music stages, a spoken word/interview stage, and memorabilia tent showcasing items from the Dead's personal collection. Phil Lesh and Friends, RatDog, Mickey Hart & Bemb=E9 Orisha, Bill Kreutzmann's TriChromes, and Robert Hunter are also scheduled to play on the main stage throughout the two days. Each show will conclude with The Other Ones performing two sets. Confirmed second stage artists include The Disco Biscuits, Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Donna The Buffalo, and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, as well as acoustic performances by Warren Haynes and Jorma Kaukonen. The Other Ones will be joined by Jimmy Herring on guitar (Phil Lesh & Friends, Allman Brothers Band, Col. Bruce Hampton), Jeff Chimenti (RatDog) on keyboards, and Rob Barraco (Phil Lesh & Friends) on keyboards and vocals. Cameron Sears, President/CEO of Grateful Dead Productions noted, "The musicians that created Grateful Dead along with their fans helped give birth to a family and community that has no equal in the history of modern music; when they join forces for Terrapin Station it promises to be the one family reunion that nobody will want to miss." Phil Lesh commented, "We started rehearsing this week and I'm excited. This is going to be very, very good." Formed in the San Francisco area in 1965, The Grateful Dead are one of the most popular groups in rock 'n' roll history. Throughout their 30-year career they became much more than just a band; they are an institution that changed the music world forever. The ticket price for Terrapin Station will be $44.50 per day, plus a $.50 donation to the Unbroken Chain and Rex Foundations and applicable surcharges. Early tickets will only be available through Grateful Dead Ticketing beginning Thursday, May 23rd. For more information please visit www.dead.net or call 1-800-CAL-DEAD. Tickets will go on-sale through Ticketmaster beginning Saturday, June 8th. Visit www.dead.net for more ticketing information.
From: Olympian90@aol.com Subject: ISO recommendations for London, Glasgow, Edinburgh used CD/record stores Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 19:43:17 EDT Hello, everyone. Sorry for the off-topic post. I may be going to England/Scotland next week and was wondering if anyone can recommend second-hand CD/record stores. I do know of Record & Tape exchange in London, so any others would be great. If anyone knows of any stores besides Avalanche and Missing in Glasgow and Edinburgh that are great, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!

From: David Tholen <tholen@IfA.Hawaii.Edu> Subject: rewinding woes Date: Tue, 21 May 2002 16:30:01 -1000 I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the following peculiar behavior and might have a recommendation to minimize the possibility of a future recurrence: The tape: Maxell HS-4/60s (data grade) The machines: Sony M-1, Sony DTC 700, Sony D-100 Some recommend that a new tape be fast-forwarded to the end and then rewound before the first use. I did that with the M-1 on one of the aforementioned Maxell tapes, which have otherwise been extremely reliable for me. No problems encountered during either the fast forward or rewind. Recorded a performance, used slightly over half the tape. No problems encountered during the recording. Tried to rewind the tape to listen to the performance, but the M-1 just crawled (not much faster than real time) and eventually completely stopped rewinding. Tried using both rewind ( << ) and previous start ID modes ( |<< ) but neither did the trick. Removed the tape from the M-1, loaded it into the DTC 700. Tried playing it, and it did play for a while, but would then suddenly stop on it own. Pressing play would cause it to play for a while longer, only to suddenly stop on its own again. Normally the DTC 700 will, after rewind is pressed, rewind for a fraction of a second at slow speed (sort of like during rehearsal mode), then stop and click, then go into high-speed rewind. With this particular tape, it would rewind for a fraction of second without problem, then stop and click, but refuse to go into high-speed rewind. Tried fast-forwarding a bit and then rewind, but the same situation occurred. Even managed to fast-forward it past the end of the recorded section all the way to the end of the tape and tried rewinding. It rewound for a while, getting slower and slower, and then eventually stopped with the Caution indicator illuminated. I don't think it got back as far as the recorded section. Removed the tape from the DTC 700, loaded it into the D-100. That unit kept cycling between load and unload modes, apparently endlessly, until I slid the open button to remove the tape, at which point it unloaded for good and opened the lid. (Whew! Had worries of a tape being stuck inside.) Slid back the bottom cover on the tape shell, swung the front guard into the open position, inserted a pencil eraser into the supply hub and manually rewound the tape. Felt no particular resistance. Loaded the tape into the M-1, and what I listened to so far played just fine. Tried rewind and it rewound the tape, though perhaps it was slower than usual, but I can't say for sure because I haven't done any timings. So maybe it's okay now, but I'm surprised that each machine couldn't rewind a tape for which I felt no particular resistance to rewinding. Certainly nothing unusual about the tape pack that I could see through the limited amount of window on the top of the cassette shell. And certainly no problems fast forwarding, which is surprising; why would resistance be unidirectional? Anybody with any ideas as to what was going on?

From: Delano <digital-taper@comcast.net> Subject: Ebay stuff Date: Wed, 22 May 2002 09:47:13 -0400 If you have a problem with illeagal Ebay auctions, please contact Ebay - not DAT-heads. Ebay has a policy preventing such sales and will end the auction if you take the time to report such auctions. You could also bid on the item and refuse to pay because of the Ebay rule violation. This way you could find out the name of the person selling the item and make this info publicly known. This subject arises monthly and longtime subscribers tire of seeing this subject re-appear. From: "rush fan" <rushtrader@hotmail.com> Subject: Rush FTP trades Date: Wed, 22 May 2002 12:24:07 -0400 Let me apologize in advance if this is not appropriate here. If there is a SHN-heads or FTP-heads forum that is more appropriate, please point me to it. With the Rush tour about to begin, I thought that perhaps a few pre-show trades would be in order. I am looking for SHN trades via FTP (I have the site set up). I have a bunch of shows in SHN and a bunch more in MP3 (sorry, that's how I got them). I am looking for SHN copies of any of the MP3 shows or any high quality soundboard or EX+ quality audience show. Also I am looking for: Black Ice (Ice Palace, Tampa, Florida 12-09-96 Scanner) YYZed VCD (Molson Amphitheater, Toronto, Canada 06-30-97) A View From The Palace VCD (The Palace Of Auburn Hills - Auburn Hills, MI 03-22-94) For any show uploaded, I'll open up access to the site (my basement via cable modem) for a week and let you grab whatever you want. Please do not contact me about trading via snail-mail. I am truly lazy about that stuff and you will get it a year later after getting pissed off at me, so I do FTP trading instead and you will get a lot more than 1:1 in return.
