Even though the security at the Woodlands is getting
very sucky these days, I was able to tape all but the
opening act this past Sunday. Must admit that Jerry
Cantrell was great and also better mixed than the
headliner, Nickelback. Along with the two mentioned,
Default, Tommy Lee, Course Of Nature, and Headstrong
performed and are available.. These were all taped
with DPA4060>HEB battery box(no roll)>D100. I would be
open to a few trades as well as a couple B&P's.
Thanks for the BW,
John B.

Hi All,
Sound Anchors makes a great stand. (407) 724-1237
Not exactly a budget item (around $300/pair as I recall) and heavy (50
lbs.).
I hope this helps.

Date: Wed, 5 Jun 2002 10:11:53 -0500
As most of you know Fuji has decided to discontinue making the 60 & 90
metre DDS tapes. I have NO affiliation with this company, but they do
have access to around 500 pieces or so of the remaining Fuji DDS tape
that Fuji has in its eastern warehouse. I've talked with Ken at Terrapin
Tapes and he has tried to get the rest of the Fuji tapes, but has been
unsuccessful.
Anyhow, the company is Total Media and their website is:
http://totalmedia.com
Again, I have no affiliation with this company, but I have been trying to
get my hands on more of these tapes since I think they are some of the
last great DDS tapes on the market.

Wayne

Subject: phase cancellation
Date: Wed, 5 Jun 2002 08:41:02 -0700 (PDT)
I'd like to get some info and input from the
dat-heads collective mind. Can some one explain to me
what phasing and phase cancellation is? I recently
taped the Phil show at the Frost and the results came
out less than spectacular. It's been suggested to me
that my recording may have suffered from phase
cancellation, but I'm not quite sure what that is and
how I can prevent it from happening again. My current
rig is a set of Rode NT3's running on P48v into a D8.
I'd also like to hear any pros and cons about the
Denecke AD 20 as I'm thinking about purchasing one of
these in the near future.
Thanks to all for the help.

There are much more precise definitions of emphasis, both in equation
form and in algorithmic form for PCM data. The information in this
table may be approximately correct, but I wouldn't advise trying to
create this by hand as a equalization filter -- find a software
package that does de-emphasis properly, you'll be happier with the
results.

Generally, a P.A. will be run to deliver roughly 100-105dBspl A-weighed
at Front of House for most rock concerts. This translates into about
106-110dBspl halfway between the stage and FOH (mix position)--where
many folks like to record.
Unfortunately, the blood curdling screams of passionate fans (@#%$heads,
as many would call them) can generate levels upwards of 110-115dBspl at
1 meter. Then, it is not uncommon to see between songs cheers of the
whole crowd go even higher. The minimal difference between the overall
crowd and the nearby guys (fewer of them but closer) is why they are
only "marginally" louder.
As the DPA 4060/61/62 have a max. spl before clipping of 134dB, 144dB,
and 154dB respectively, you will not see these clipping in most of our
recording applications in front of a PA system. I don't know the
clipping points of the other miniature "stealth" mics so it is hard to
say whether or not it is the mic or a later stage of the recording
chain. If you are using the same equipment except the mics and finding
clipping on one brand and not another, it is likely that the mics can
not take these higher levels. I'm sure Len and/or Leonard could address
this in detail.
Happy Recording Everybody,
Marc

METALLICA Premier New Song During Surprise Club Appearance - June 5,
2002
METALLICA premiered a new song last night during an ultra-secret live
performance under the name SPUN at Club Kimo's in San Francisco,
according to www.metallica.com <http://www.metallica.com/> .
After introducing themselves as "Bob's Band", guitarist/vocalist James
Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett and fill-in
bassist, producer Bob Rock burst into four RAMONES songs before getting
down to performing several METALLICA classics, including the
rarely-heard "Hit The Lights". After that, it was time for a new
track-apparently as-yet-untitled-which was described by the METALLICA
webmaster Niclas Swanlund as "HEAVY, with a nice METALLICA CRUNCH to
it." The night ended with "I Disappear" and a version of MISFITS' "Die
Die My Darling".
Here was METALLICA's set list for their performance at Club Kimo's:
01. Commando (RAMONES)
02. Today Your Love Tomorrow The World (RAMONES)
03. 53rd and 3rd (RAMONES)
04. Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue (RAMONES)
05. Hit The Lights
06. Leper Messiah
07. No Remorse
08. For Whom The Bell Tolls
09. (New Song)
10. I Disappear

I’m about to upgrade my CSBs so I am selling them. These are the modified
CSBs with selectable bass roll-off battery box. They have clips for
mounting. They were used only a few times and kept in virtually new
condition; bought brand new about 18 months ago. Kept in a smoke-free
environment. Asking $200 or best offer. US Buyers only, please. I will be
gone for a week, and the highest offer I receive by the time I get back on
June 13, 2002 will be accepted. My email is slowdivingblue@hotmail.com.
