From: Todd Romero <todd@routeflap.net> Subject: Re: Need advice on stealthing... Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2002 01:39:49 -0400 (EDT) not much to it man, you have all you need :) a few tips: o put on the mics and check yourself out in th mirriw before you go to make sure you look ok. dont be too paranoid tho at the show, cause when the show starts and its dark, your mics wont be detectable even if the cords are outside your shirt. o wear a black shirt and black hat (if you plan on wearing a hat) o use 3hr tape, so you dont have to switch it. o keep the backlight off on the deck once you get the levels set o avoid looking at the deck repeately, or fidgeting with the mic cables etc. as this draws attention to you and makes you look suspicious o have tape and batteries in the deck and ready to go before u go in, and dont mess with anything untill the lights go down and the show is about to start, for the same reasons as above. to get it in, you have a few options for the deck. some ppl put it down their pants, but i would probbaly keep it with my other stuff and tell the dude its a walkman and you didnt want to leave in your car. and if you have some little headphones for it, thats even more convincing. just have them on like you are listening to it. if they turn you away, try another gate, or anohter gate with it down your pants. If you put it down your pants, try to find an entrance with a female security guard. and most of all.. relax.. dont be tense :) good luck On Tue, 11 Jun 2002, Nick Graham wrote: > a show where ABSOLUTELY NO recording is > allowed...basically need tips on sneaking equipment > in, setting up, etc. I'll be using a D8 and Core Sound > Binaural stealth mics...email me and I'll provide the > details... > > Sorry this is off topic, but figured I'd ask around... > > Nick > > CDR List: http://www.phishhook.com/lists/Nick_Graham > > SHN List: http://db.etree.org/nickgraham > > > >

There are very few people out there who have what we want right now, so a purchase is probably the better option. The purchase prices are NOT for the music! The prices cover the cost of materials, artwork reproduction, disc duplication, wear and tear on reproduction machinery, and shipping costs. Thank You. wouldnt this be a more effective argument if he/she was selling their cds for _actual_ cost (ok, if artwork is included, i'll kick in the extra +/- $.40 for a color print cover)?? how much does a 1 or 2 disc set cost to send out?? how many burns do you have on your burner, and how much did you pay for it to begin with?? should i start tacking on $.05 to every b+p i send out for wear and tear?? and has anyone seen how much other one tix are going for on ebay?? whatever. its late. what a day..... i apologize for the rant here just because of this, i will take 3 b+ps for les claypool and the fearless flying frog brigade and robert walters 20th congress at tipitinas, 02-05-05. lcfffb source: MK4V's>KCY>VMS021B>D8 and rw2c source: At stage mics @ 90 degrees > Neumann ak40 > LC3Ka > KM100 > AD1000 > D8 5 80 min cds in total. but you must promise me to make at least $600 from the copies i send back. ;^)

From: "Zach" <zach@funkytulip.com> Subject: NiMH d8 and SBM runtimes for archives Reply-To: <zach@funkytulip.com> Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2002 09:06:22 -0600 O.K. Folks I did an unscientific test last night. I got some of the 1800 Milliamp hour rechargeable Nickel Meatal Hydrides (sp). I went through 5 charge/discharge cycles to try and condition them as reccomended here. The D8 with the light on, analog input, analog output, and digital output ran for 5 hours and 7 minutes. Including time to ffwd and rewind the tape, twice. The battery meter stayed full for about 3hours, then stayed at 3 bars for another hour, then dropped rapidly from there until it shut off. The Power Hungry SBM-1 (modified) ran for 4.5 hours with the input set to line in, headphone output cranked to 10 and record knob also set to 10, 44.1Khz. It's battery meter stayed at 4 bars for 2.5 hours and then dropped to 3 for about another 1.5 hours, then dropped very fast until it shut off. Again this was an unscientific test, but it gives you an idea of what to expect when using these devices at maximum battery drain. I'm sure the D8 would have lasted MUCH longer w/o the light on, and the analog output enabled. Ala patcher pig.... not bad if I say so myself... Peace, Zach

From: "R. Jackson" <jackson.robert.r@worldnet.att.net> Subject: Another Nakamichi CM 300 question Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2002 14:55:52 -0700 First off, let me thank you all for the responses about powering my mics. I must have had 35 responses and some of the solutions suggested displayed ingenuity over and above the call of duty. ;-) I'm still answering email, but I think I've replied to most of you who sent me advice. I have one more Nak question. My original shotgun windscreens disintegrated a couple of years back. They just started coming apart and in the span of a few months reduced themselves to black particles (that I still seem to be finding and cleaning up in the most unlikely places around the house). Do any of you know of a good replacement? I really need to grab some new windscreens and I have no idea where to find them. -Rob

From: "john e. bogus" <mallness@surfbest.net> Subject: ISO: Jefferson Starship taping info, Vanilla Fudge Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2002 20:22:37 -0400 Vanilla Fudge is playing with Jefferson Starship 6/29/02 at Tussey Mountain Ampitheatre, Boalsburg, PA. I understand JS allows taping, but have not been able to find any info on this, and their website is down. Anyone onlist know policy for this one? Will taping be disallowed at this show due to other bands playing? How about info on the show itself? I can't find anything online about the venue, showtimes, ticket prices, etc. Can anyone help me out here? Vanilla Fudge also snuck a couple shows by me recently in the last couple months.....did anyone tape the recent shows in OH and CA? Anyone planning on taping the 7/3/02 show in MN? If so, I'd sure like to hear from you.... Thanks for the posting, john e. bogus
From: Stefan V Morosky <baxter108@juno.com> Subject: re:stealth taping and dealing with others Date: Wed, 12 Jun 2002 17:29:31 -0700 This post is in regards to my own post I started on this topic;I appreciate all the feedback I've gotten on this subject and wanted to add some more to it.Alot of you out there have suggested it's cool to let others know around me that I'm taping and offer to give copies after the show in exchange for their keeping it cool. This sounds ok,but personnally I'd never do it for several reasons:some people may think its ok while others may use it against you and end up busted or a drunken buffoon thinks its funny to talk onto your tape as a rude joke.Kind of defeats the purpose of "stealth'" taping in a way, doesn't it? The extreme rudeness I experienced last thursday night at Tull I'm calling a fluke;this hardly ever happens in all my ten years of recording shows.I even went on pause and told security to tell the screamers to knock it off and the security wouldn't do a thing. My take on all this is this: There needs to be some control over yellers and screamers at shows coming from venues and bands to let people know its unwanted to talk loudly and cheer like an idiot when a performer is up on stage giving a performance, regardless of whether I'm taping or not. This is a music event, not a football game.Maybe a "public awareness campaign" is in order?(shut up,stupid) Clapping after a song is over is fine with me.Constantly cheering and taliking during music being played should be discouraged at any event and should be dealt with accordingly, like shut up or get out! Why pay outrageous ticket prices to only have to sit next to Joe blow chatty mouth all f-cking night? Maybe this is why Roger Waters came up with "The Wall" concept? The dis-association between audience and performer on stage makes any show a lousy experience at any ticket price.
